Welcome Neighborhood

Calhoun County is a coastal county on the mid-Texas coast. It was organized in 1846 and
consists of 540 square miles. It is bordered from the southwest to the southeast by major
inland bays and the Gulf of Mexico with more than 560 miles of coastline. Port Lavaca, the
county seat, is on Lavaca Bay. Point Comfort lies on the east side of Lavaca Bay.
The county is known for the best fishing, duck hunting, birding, seafood, and just plain
relaxing. With all the water, coastal prairies, and marshes, Calhoun County is a favorite
place for birders and photography lovers. There are more than 400 different species of
birds and eight birding sites on the Texas Birding Trail. The city of Seadrift is located on
San Antonio Bay and the unincorporated community of Port 0' Connor is located on the
Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Easy access to the Gulf via the Port 0' Connor Jetties makes
this one of the most popular fishing resorts on the entire Texas Coast.

Matagorda County is another county in the beautiful state of Texas, just about an hour
from Calhoun and Victoria County. The county seat is Bay City. The county is named for the
canebrakes that once grew along the coast (matagorda is a Spanish word meaning "thick
bush"). Matagorda County also comprises the Bay City, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area,
which is also included in the Houston-The Woodlands, TX Combined Statistical Area.

Victoria County is also located in Texas with the county seat being Victoria. This county is
also included in the Victoria, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The city of Victoria is one of the oldest cities in Texas, founded by Martin de Leon in 1824.
The county has lots of rich history, art and festivals, as well as, nature and water recreation
to learn and enjoy.
