WE LC OME T O ISS U E SEVE N Tea Drinkingway Tea Drinkingway As we celebrate the 10th year anniversary of Final Fantasy XIV, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible adventures, friendships, and memories that have enriched my life through Eorzea and beyond. I remember when I started playing Final Fantasy in 2017 as a humble Archer! Never could I have known the bonds I’d make over the years through this game. It’s not just the content that keeps me logging in - it’s you. Thank you for everything, and happy reading!

FINAL FANTASY XIV 10th ANNIVERSARY On September 30, 2010, Final Fantasy XIV went live. Its launch was met with a largely negative response and servers were closed on November 11, 2012. There was no minimap, no autoattack, no chocobo riding and a fatigue system encouraged players to stop playing the game. Naoki Yoshida was announced as the new lead for Final Fantasy XIV in December 2012, and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn was later released on August 27, 2013. “With gratitude for the journeys thus far, we look forward for the journeys yet to come.” The first expansion, Heavensward, was released June 23, 2015. It brought with it flying, Dark Knight, Astrologian and Machinist. On July 2, 2019, Shadowbringers was released with Gunbreaker and Dancer. Female viera and male hrothgar were also introduced as playable races. Endwalker released 2 years ago in December 2021, and brought us the conclusion of the Zodiark and Hydaelyn arc. Sage and Reaper were introduced this expansion with male viera added as a playable race. In the lead up to Endwalker’s release, Square Enix revealed that the number of registered players had reached over 24 million. The next expansion, Dawntrail, has been announced for release in 2024. It will introduce a new magical ranged DPS and melee DPS class. Here’s to another decade of unforgettable adventures in Eorzea and beyond! Next, Stormblood saw the introduction of swimming and diving gameplay as well as Red Mage, Samurai and Blue Mage. It was released on June 20, 2017.

In a Halloween celebration like no other, this year's Spooktober Spectacular glamour competition brought out the ghouls, the ghastly, and the utterly silly! Participants from Tarot gathered to showcase their creativity, and the winners truly embodied the spirit of Halloween. With a total prize pool of 3 million gil, the winners left the competition with both their pockets full by popular vote. Spooktober Spectacular truly lived up to its name this year, promising that every Halloween celebration will be even more ghostly and glorious than the last.

Master of the Macabre Award: Koko the Ice Queen Koko's Ice Queen glamour was a chilling masterpiece. With an ensemble that radiated a dark frosty elegance, Koko's haunting presence sent shivers down spines. The crowd agreed that Koko deserved the Master of the Macabre award, accompanied by a fantastic 1 million gil prize. Ghoulishly Gorgeous: Potato as Lalaskellington Potato wowed the crowd with a spooky fun portrayal of a Lalafel Jack Skellington as the iconic Pumpkin King. The Ghoulishly Gorgeous award was a perfect fit, earning Potato 1 million gil. Silliest Spectacle Award: Barb as Sailor Moon Barb took the competition in a completely different direction with his portrayal of Sailor Moon. Clad in the iconic sailor uniform and wig, Barb's performance left everyone in stitches. Barb had spent some money on the Free Company, so it was fitting that the Silliest Spectacle award celebrated his comedic genius and earned him back 1 million gil.

Hello ladies, gents, and every other gender this side of the Indigo Deep! Giant Crusher here. You might be asking yourself, “Why does she have that name? Is it because she’s a giant who crushes, or is she a crusher of giants?” Take me out to dinner, and I just might tell you! CR U SHE R ’S C O R N E R A R EVI EW O F THE F R E E T R IAL PAR T O N E : A R EALM R EB O R N So, I’m guessing you want to know more about me. If you don’t, that’s fine - Tea needs some padding for the magazine anyway, so she gave me permission to write whatever I like on this page. Her mistake! I’ve had a hell of a time ever since she invited me to Eorzea, and I’ve been looking for a place to complain. I’ll be writing about my journey here, from the moment I stepped off that stupid cart in New Gridania ... That’s right: I’m here looking for love. That, or someone who will marry me so I can mooch off of my partner’s wealth and hoard the items I get from the wedding ceremony. And what better place to put a personal ad than Tea Drinkingway’s esteemed paper! It was either that or I start sending chat requests in Balmung, and I’m not that desperate yet.

... to where I am now, freezing my tits off in Isengard– I mean, Ishgard. After getting free rides from Tea and my buddy Chichiyo Chiyo, I managed to get enough credit around the place that they let me into the Lancer’s Guild. I met Ywain, and I’ll admit I was impressed! The poor bloke had no obligation to deal with a Roegadyn who was as green with a lance as she was green in the skin - but he was a patient and kind teacher, through and through. I never caught him staring at my cleavage, not once! It’s as if whenever I wanted to talk to him, his entire body would rotate so he could look me right in the eyes, even if I was standing right behind him. Eerie, that. To be fair, it wasn’t all bad. New Gridania would be a nice place to set my hat for a while, if I had ever found a hat that didn’t mess up my hair. Mother Miounne gave me a warm welcome, and after she refused my seventh marriage request, I came to regard her as a good friend! She sent me on a quest to do something or other - if I’m honest, I tuned out most of what she was saying after I got distracted by a Moogle that was hovering too close to my head. Along the way, I did a few deliveries for some of the locals in the Black Shroud. Little tedious, I admit, but hey! I’m new here. What’s the harm in one or two fetch quests, right?

After my tenth or so fetch quest - getting a little tired of them, now - I ran across two weirdos in terrible outfits that would soon become my best friends (if only by default). Papalymo and Yda were investigating some Assclowns in the Black Shroud, which I’ve later been told are supposed to be called Ascians. I met one of these Assclowns in a nearby dungeon, and let me tell you, darkness has never been so boring! Can you believe I used to be afraid of the dark? I should have had one of these guys by my crib, and their monologues would have sent me right to sleep! I kept up my Lancer training, and soon came afoul of a foul little imp named Foulques. Nasty little bugger, who thought his years of experience as a Lancer could best me, a girl who started about a week ago. What an idiot he was! He fell off a cliff, but I like to say I pushed him to spare his corpse some dignity. After that, Ywain didn’t seem to have much else to teach me. For a while, I thought that meant I was as good a Lancer as I was going to get. No one told me I was going to be the Azure Dragoon at the time. Back then, I had no idea I was going to be a part of such a special, distinguished and exclusive legacy, just as I had no idea that almost every Lancer I’d speak to would also be an Azure Dragoon. The Soul of the Dragoon gets around, I guess.

Anyway, some elf(?) named Kan-E-Senna started talking to me about the breath of the wild or something, which got me so bored that I hopped out of the Black Shroud. Nice place, but I’m here to fight beasts, not retire in a picturesque shack in the middle of the woods. La Noscea and Thanalan seemed more my speed on that front! Soon I was hitching a ride across the dunes near Horizon, all the way to Vesper Bay. Bit of a trip without an Aetheryte, but whatever! Not like I’ll be going there every fucking quest, right? That’s just one of the things they don’t tell you about being a Scion of the Seventh Dawn - but when Minfilia offered me the job, I was all too quick to accept. Who am I to refuse a woman who displays that much midriff like a badge of honor? If I did, I certainly couldn’t call myself a self-respecting Roe! I do wish she told me about some of the death and horror that would face me before too long, but them’s the breaks. I was a Scion of the Seventh Dawn… and now, I might be one of the last. So, if you like girls who enjoy long walks on the beach and dining on delicious Smoked Raptor, hit me up! Better do it fast too - Tea is this close to kicking me out of her place after I used up all of Ishgard’s hot water while in the shower. See you next time on Crusher’s Corner!

Dear Scholar, My partner and I have been adventuring together for several years now. We’ve faced raging beast-men, dived into crumbling tombs in search of treasure, and even found time for a date or two at The Bismark. Now, I would like to embark on the next greatest adventure of our lives: asking them to marry me in a ceremony of Eternal Bonding. However, because we are so welltravelled, it’s really hard for me to decide where and how I should pop the question to them. And so, Scholar, I am asking you for help. Where are some of the best places to propose in Eorzea? Yours sincerely, Lovestruck Adventurer Q Dear Lovestruck, I want to start by congratulating you on maintaining such a strong and committed relationship. Adventuring is an exciting life, but it is not without its hardships, and I have seen those hardships tear many a relationship apart. So the fact that you are still going strong is definitely something to celebrate. I also understand your dilemma. Eorzea is such a beautiful place and every single time I think I’ve seen everything it has to offer, I visit somewhere at a slightly different time, and see things in a whole new way. Here are my top three picks of places to propose in Eorzea: Menphina’s Shrine – Coerthas Central Highlands If you don’t mind the cold, or a bit of a hike, then why not make a pilgrimage to the shrine of Menphina, the goddess of Love. It’s located at the western-most point of the Steel Vigil, and while the shrine itself is fairly mundane and unassuming, the location offers a spectacular view of Ishgard and the surrounding area. Not to mention our old friend nearby would no doubt be more than happy to offer his blessings on your happiness as well. Hermits’s Hovel – Outer La Noscea Don’t let the name fool you. Tucked away at the end of The Long Climb in Outer La Noscea, this rustic…cottage…shack, yeah okay it’s a shack. Anyway this rustic building offers a warm goose-feather bed, a surprisingly diverse library of books, and of course beautiful steaming hot-pools right outside its front door. Pop the question while basking in those waters and taking in the view of the nearby floating city or snuggled together under the covers of the bed. Either way it’s quite the romantic spot. Hidden Tear – The Peaks This location is a little…more unconventional than the last two owing to the fact that this shrine was once used as a site to honour the dead before Garlemald banned all religious rites in the province. Located above the waterfall to the east of Ala Gannha, this beautiful shrine features trees, waterfalls, and if you don’t mind a bit of a skirmish, the occasional pack of voidsent. There you have it Lovestruck. Three very beautiful locations for you to choose from. I’m sure that wherever you wind up proposing, it’s going to be magical. Because it’s not about the location, it’s about who you’re proposing to, and the love you share. Best of luck Lovestruck, oh and if you need ideas for a honeymoon, I can recommend Costa De Sol. Just find Gegeruju and tell him I sent you. He owes me several favours so I can guarantee he’ll look after you. A

“The Deck of Sixty is most commonly divided into two distinct groups, the major arcana and the minor arcana. The six major arcana- the Spire, the Ewer, the Bole, the Arrow, the Balance and the Spear- are said to represent the heavens and thus are the most often utilized in astrological and divinatory pursuits. Conversely, the minor arcana ABOUT ASTROMANCY “The famed author of "The Five Ages," the Sharlayan sage Lewphon, devoted two decades of his life from the year 210 to the year 230 of the Sixth Astral Era to compiling a comprehensive study on the merits of star gazing. By analyzing the expansive historical records of man’s attempts to read his own fate, Lewphon hoped to separate the fables of superstition from the more reliable knowledge of evidence-based astrology. What his methodical scrutiny uncovered, however, was that much of the ancients' wisdom was founded in legitimate arcane theory. This revelation shifted the entire focus of his research, and his subsequent efforts to reconstruct and adapt these principles resulted in the creation of “astromancy”—an art which attuned the wielder’s aether to the movement of the heavens. Following Lewphon’s discoveries, the cards of the fortune teller— previously considered an amusement fit only for children—were reevaluated from an academic perspective. The deck of arcana, with its cards representative of the constellations, was integrated along with the star globe into a uniquely Sharlayan discipline of magick.” “While a recent resurgence in Sharlayan astrology has increased the visibility of the major arcana, these six cards represent but one small portion of a much larger deck that has seen thousands of years of use- the Deck of Sixty. While the origins of the deck are unclear, evidence of its use is apparent in almost every one of the Astral Eras.” minor arcana are believed to represent the land and its people, and feature six suits. Each suit possesses a corresponding element, class and faculty, as well as a direct tie to one of the six major arcana - all characteristics that can be employed (at the teller’s discretion) during the scrying of a fortune.” As recorded in the Eorzean Encyclopedia

THE DECK OF SIXTY The cards of an astrologian’s diving deck serve as a connection between the astrologian and the constellations from which they draw their power. The Deck of Sixty contains a total of sixty cards, each designated an element and suit as outlined below. THE MAJOR ARCANA There are 6 major arcana cards, which correspond with a constellation and 2 of the Twelve. These 6 major arcana cards are allocated to 1 suit each. THE MINOR ARCANA There are 54 minor arcana cards, with 9 minor arcana cards to each suit. Of these 9 cards, 6 are plain number cards, known as pip cards. The remaining 3 cards are called face cards, which consist of the “knave”, the “lord” and the “lady”. When used in conjunction with the pip cards, their numerical values are 7, 8, and 9 respectively. Crowns Wreaths Dominion Nobility Lightning The Spire Cups Hearts Emotion Clergy Water The Ewer Suit Alternate Faculty Class Element Major Arcana Rings Pentacles Possession Merchants Earth The Bole Knives Swords Cognition Military Wind The Arrow Staves Batons Volition Smallfolk Fire The Balance Irons Chains Contrition Prisoners Ice The Spear ARCANA AS ENTERTAINMENT The use of the Deck of Sixty is not limited to Divination. Records dating as far back as the Third Astral Era indictae that the Eorzeans have long applied the cards to other more leisurely pursuits, including gambling.

THE WHISPERING PILLOW The Whispering Pillow is a very popular social game amongst nobleborn. 18 face cards are drawn from the minor deck and assigned a person within the players’ social circles. These 18 arcana are then drawn in pairs to see who is “bedding” or “betraying” whom, providing the players with seeds of wild gossip for their afternoon tea sessions. CARD GAMES HIDE THE HIGH HEART Hide the High Heart is a fast-paced high-low hybrid that requires both luck and cunning. Betting occurs after each ten draws. KNIGHTS & KNAVES If you enjoy strategy games, then Knights & Knaves is for you. 3 players compete to assassinate opposing army generals, with each card representing a member of an military unit. LOUIS LOUIS The objective of Louis Louis is to create a stack of cards whose sum equals 72, the age of Archon Louisoix when he sacrificed his life for the realm. Dealt hands are exchanged by players every round. HIGH OR LOW A two player game in which the player and dealer are dealt 3 cards each. 1 player card is revealed and 2 dealer cards are revealed. The player guesses if the sum of their 3 cards are higher or lower than the sum of the dealer’s 3 cards. The player wins if they are correct.
