In our 50-plus years of providing health and wellness programs to the people in
our communities, we've touched many lives—forming relationships whose

lifespan far exceeds any outpatient visit or hospital stay. Many patients and their

families ask how they can show their appreciation for all we've done. The

Jefferson Health Foundation - New Jersey is the answer. Your tax-deductible
donations go a long way in helping to fund many of our health and wellness

programs—ensuring they'll be available for you and your loved ones for

generations to come.

Welcome to the

Jefferson Health Foundation - New Jersey

2020 Gala!

Our New Jersey Gala isn’t just our signature fundraising event each year, it’s also THE party of the year.
In addition to the rockin’ good time, sumptuous food and drink, and the company of good friends, this
year’s Gala has special significance for Jefferson New Jersey, and me personally. This year’s Gala
proceeds will be invested in support of creating Jefferson Pride—Primary and Specialty Care.

In the southern New Jersey area, there is no dedicated health center for patients identifying as lesbian,
gay, bisexual, transgender or queer (LGBTQ). The goal of this project is to open a clinical office in South
Jersey and promote visibility of our services to the LGBTQ community. This center will provide a location
where all patients, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity, feel comfortable and
respected. The office will offer primary care, as well as specialty services, including
mental health, infectious diseases, surgery, and gynecology - all under one inclusive, welcoming roof.

Our providers will be familiar with LGBTQ needs, such as PrEP for HIV prevention, gender-affirming
hormone replacement therapy for transgender patients, HIV management and substance abuse
counseling. The center will engage in community outreach beyond the norm of traditional medical
practices, such as participating in Pride events and Parents & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG)
support groups to market our services.

We are deeply grateful to all our sponsors and donors—especially our Presenting Sponsor, Medi-Centrix,
for their generosity and shared commitment in serving southern New Jersey’s LGBTQ community.

We are also grateful to our entire Jefferson Family, including Board members, Medical Staff, leadership,
associates and volunteers, for their investment of time and talent in the ultimate testament of their faith
in our mission — to improve lives.

Now let’s celebrate!

Justin Schweitzer, DO

Patient Testimonials

"Having a Pride Center in South Jersey would be an instrumental institution for everyone that is
part of the LGBTQ community. When I was growing up, I knew that I was LGBTQ but I had
nowhere to turn. When I got older, I went to a doctor that I did not feel comfortable with. Being
gay makes you have different concerns and you need to speak with a doctor who understands
LGBTQ specific needs. When I met Dr. Schweitzer I immediately felt comfortable talking to him
about the exposures that gay men face. This center will make it easier for LGBTQ people in South
Jersey to have their specific needs met. In the past I would have to go to Philadelphia in order to
speak with someone about my medical issues, specifically STDs. This center will provide easier
access for patients just like me."
- Nicholas

"Unfortunately, I have experienced prejudices one too many times from healthcare professionals
who have made me feel unwelcome and dirty for existing and seeking general healthcare. As a gay
man, it is important for me to have a safe health center where I can receive unbiased, judgement-
free care from my health provider."
-Anonymous

"The LGBTQ Center of South Jersey will provide me with a chance to receive medical care

without worrying about being judged and feeling as if I have to hide my sexual orientation.  The
center will afford me the opportunity to be completely comfortable, upfront, and honest with my
healthcare team."
-Daniel

"Healthcare is personal. Having access to providers who are familiar with the unique needs of
minority patients is incredibly impactful. The sense of safety and trust that comes with
understanding and compassionate care is truly a mercy, especially in frightening or difficult
situations."
-Jeff

JIM DONOVAN

is co-anchor with Janelle Burrell of CBS 3’s Eyewitness News This Morning the station’s popular morning
newscast (weekdays, 4:30-7 a.m.), and Eyewitness News at Noon.

The 15-time Emmy Award-winner joined CBS 3 as its “On Your Side” consumer reporter in 2004.  In April, 2016, he
stepped up to the anchor desk to relaunch the station’s morning newscast, after distinguishing himself with his
memorable coverage of Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia in 2015.

Jim’s on-air duties still include the consumer beat where he and
his team continue to resolve thousands of consumer-related
complaints from viewers in the Delaware Valley. Their work has
earned accolades from numerous organizations from the Better
Business Bureau to the Associated Press.

A native of Staten Island, New York, Jim began his career as a news
department intern at WWOR-TV in Secaucus, New Jersey. He
worked in a variety of roles there for six years as a news writer and
field producer, all the time also working in the aviation industry for
People Express Airlines and later, Continental Airlines, traveling
both across the U.S. and internationally.

In 1993, Jim decided to clip his airline wings and concentrate on
his broadcasting career full-time. He joined WNBC-TV in New York
as a research coordinator. It was there that he put his aviation
experience to good use and earned his first Emmy Award for an
investigative report on plane crash survival.

In 1994, he made the jump to the network and joined CNBC, as an investigative producer and consumer reporter
for Steals & Deals, a nightly consumer news program. There he earned a National Cable Ace nomination and
contributed reports to NBC's Today Show.

Jim left New York in 1997 to start an investigative unit at WGHP-TV in High Point, North Carolina. While
there, the Better Business Bureau named him "Outstanding Consumer Reporter."  Prior to Philadelphia, he was
the consumer reporter for WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio where his advocacy on behalf of viewers was
recognized by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

Jim is a graduate of Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey where he earned a Bachelor of
Arts degree in communication.

Active in the community, he volunteers his time to numerous local charities including MANNA, CARIE and
the Mazzoni Center.  In 2015 he was inducted into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia’s Hall of Fame in
recognition of his body of work and community service.

In his free time, Jim still enjoys traveling the world. His passport includes stamps from 47 countries in Europe,
South America, Africa, Asia and the South Pacific. When he's not traveling, he resides in Center City Philadelphia.
