May 2021
Dear Spok Team,
It’s been a great first month for me at Spok. As I reflect on my first
weeks here, I realize how different it is to join a new organization
during a global pandemic. The traditional first few weeks at a new
company used to be a flurry of face-to-face meetings, team lunches,
and going out to meet with clients and partners. As with many
things, the last year has taught us to adapt in how we communicate
and work with each other. By leveraging technologies such as
Microsoft Teams, we’ve been able to stay in touch with family and
friends, collaborate on projects with colleagues, continue to do
business with the clients we serve – and even make a new team
member feel extremely welcome.
As I write this, we’re celebrating Nurses Week. Over the course of my career and now here at Spok, I’ve been incredibly
lucky to work with and learn from some the most talented nurses (including my older sister), as well as doctors, scientists,
and other healthcare professionals. As we’ve all seen, especially in this past year, their dedication to improving the lives
and health of people everywhere is very inspiring whether it’s on the front lines, in a lab developing new therapies and
vaccines, or working in healthcare informatics to enhance the technology clinicians use daily to improve patient care.
I started my career at MEDITECH, implementing their EHR throughout the U.S. and Canada. That experience led me into
sales, sales leadership and business development for “specialty best of breed” perioperative EHR vendors Picis and Surgical
Information Systems (SIS). Most recently I led business development for N-of-One (now a QIAGEN company), a precision
oncology company providing clinical interpretation (therapeutic strategies and clinical trial matches) for cancer patient’s
molecular tests. Leveraging this real-world data, we expanded into the pharmaceutical and payer markets to help with
drug development and reimbursement initiatives. I’ve seen firsthand how the use of technology and data drive innovation
in all aspects of healthcare and life sciences. I’m excited to work for an organization dedicated to helping our clients use
these tools to improve communication, efficiency, and the clinical care they provide.
I’m working across the organization to build meaningful strategic alliances that will positively impact our clients, drive
exponential growth for our organization, and help achieve our key business goals and objectives. I’m impressed with
everyone I have met. The level of talent, drive and determination to deliver results in each area of our organization is
second to none. The outlook at Spok is extremely bright!
On a personal note, I live in Allen, TX with my wife Tammy and my two daughters Emily and Lindsey. We enjoy watching
our daughters play school and club volleyball, and love traveling. Even though that’s been limited lately, we’re ready to get
back to some of our favorite destinations soon.
In the coming weeks and months, I look forward to meeting you (hopefully in person) soon.

NEW SPOK WEBSITE
Marketing is pleased to introduce our new website!
We’ve rebuilt our site from the ground up to improve the user
experience and enhance the security of spok.com. Our primary
goal is to create clear, engaging, audience-focused content
that makes working with Spok easy.
We consider our website to be the virtual “front door” to our
company and we want it to accurately represent our products
and who we are as a company. Please spend some time
navigating the site and let us know what you think.
With our beautiful new software, we’ve taken every opportunity to showcase our products, including with new product
videos on some of the solutions pages.
We’ve also rebuilt the APAC site. If you’re logging in to spok.com from that region, you should automatically see the APAC
version. Or you can scroll to the footer to change your view.
We’ve done a thorough review of all of the web content, but with more than 800 pages and posts and 900+ links, we might
have missed something. Please email [email protected] if you see something that needs our attention. We update
content on the site every Thursday and Monday evening.
Thank you to everyone who supported this project over the past few months by reviewing content to help us improve the
buying experience for our prospects. Special thanks to our IT team for collaborating with us and our website development
partner to create a secure and stable web environment. We look forward to continuing to add features, functionality, and
content to the site as we grow and change.

SPOK’S HEADQUARTERS VIRAL RESPONSE CERTIFICATION
We are pleased to announce that our headquarters, located in
Alexandria, VA received its Fitwel Viral Response Certification.
This certification validates the building’s Health Security Plan
aligns with evidence-based strategies for mitigating the spread of
infectious respiratory diseases in the workplace. The programs
implemented include the management of indoor air and water
quality, enhanced cleaning, disinfecting, and maintenance protocols along with clear and consistent communication.
Building management, BXP, certified its entire portfolio in late 2020, confirming that their Health Security Plan met or
exceeded the requirements of the Viral Response Module, and that it was consistently applied across all properties.
Individual property certification provides an additional demonstration that the framework has been applied in full
compliance with the portfolio certification. BXP was an early adopter of the Fitwel framework for certifying healthy
buildings and was recognized as a Fitwel Champion and a 2020 Best in Building Health award winner.
Originally created by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention and U.S. General Services Administration,
Fitwel is a rigorous, third-party healthy building certification system that sets the industry standard for evidence-based
strategies to promote positive health outcomes for building occupants and communities.

CYBERSECURITY
Ransom Gangs Pressuring Victims’ Customers
Cybercriminal gangs have been targeting information technology systems at hundreds of hospitals, clinics, and medical care
facilities across the United States.
Some ransomware gangs are deploying a pressure tactic to push more victim organizations into paying an extortion
demand. This may include emailing the victim’s customers and partners directly, warning that their data will be leaked to
the dark web unless they can convince the victim firm to pay up.
At Spok, we must always assume worst case scenario that any data point that either resides on-premise or is shared with a
company could eventually be hacked, lost, leaked, stolen, or sold. In order to reduce the risk of data loss, we must always
consider the following concepts before sharing data.
• Purpose Limitation – Data is collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes and not further Processed in a
manner that is incompatible with those purposes
• Data Minimization – Data is adequate, relevant, and limited to what is absolutely necessary in relation to the
purposes for which it is Processed

NATIONAL NURSES WEEK
This past year, Nurses have gone through unspeakable
challenges while bravely caring for their patients throughout
the pandemic. Despite being in the most stressful
circumstances, nurses continue to work with compassion and
unwavering commitment to improve the well-being of every
person they meet.
From the moment you walk into a healthcare facility to the
moment you leave, nurses are on call, tending to every need
and delivering care to the best of their abilities, all while
comforting patients and loved ones.
We celebrate Nurses Week every year from May 6 - 12 to shine a spotlight on the incredible nurses who selflessly devote
their lives to improving the lives of others.
At Spok, President & CEO, Vince Kelly kicked off the week with a special message you can view here. Spok also dedicated a
special blog post and created an appreciation campaign on social media in honor of Nurses Week.
We especially want to extend our sincere gratitude to the nurses at Spok. Thank you for the vital role that you play in
ensuring we deliver the best and most reliable in clinical communication.
Traci Bartolomei Meghan Brown David Gutillo Katie Lindmeyer
Kiley Black Myra Ehrman Karen Hickey Tony O’Dell
Christine Brown Ashley Franks Kristen Lalowski
Recognizing nurses for the work they do and the contributions they make is of utmost importance. From delivering high-
quality patient care to positively impacting society, nurses are imperative to the success of organizations across the globe
and to health care as a whole.
Even beyond Nurses Week, show the nurses in your life the appreciation they deserve for making the world a better place.
ASIAN AMERICAN & PACIFIC ISLANDER HERITAGE MONTH
In the US, May is dedicated to celebrating the vibrant traditions and
contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI).
AAPI encompasses the entire Asian continent and the Pacific islands
of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. And though it’s a rather
broad term, they all have distinct cultures, languages and histories.
This includes everything from the key contributions AAPI have made
to the US, to the marginalization of people that has spanned
generations. These experiences are especially important as we have
seen a sharp increase in anti-Asian hate crimes and hate incidents
over the past year.
More than 6,600 incidents have been reported by the AAPI community since mid-March 2020, with 65% being women and
majority of incidents taking place in public streets and businesses. In March, a man attacked a 65-year-old Filipino woman
outside of an apartment building in Manhattan. In surveillance footage, a man inside the building watches the assault and
does nothing, while another man approaches the door and shuts it.
There are countless moments where we instinctively sense someone may need help, but something holds us back. That
inaction has a cost. When an attack happens in public, it involves everyone who witnesses it, and how we respond sets the
tone for what we all tolerate as a society. Knowing what to say or how to safely intervene isn't always clear, but there are
many ways to calmly assess a situation and effectively deescalate harm.
Practice the 4 Ds: Distract I Delegate I Document I Direct of bystander intervention. You can pick one or more that make
sense for the situation you’re in and what you’re comfortable with.
• Distract – If you don’t feel comfortable calling out the problematic behavior, try interrupting a risky situation by
distracting and redirecting the people involved, like asking for directions or pretending to know them.
• Delegate – Ask for help from someone around you or an authority figure. But remember, the presence of law
enforcement doesn’t always make people feel safer.
• Document – Record a video on your phone, take photos and give it to the person being harassed so they can decide what
to do with it. Note – recording laws vary by state.
• Direct – If you feel safe doing so, talk directly to the harasser. Name what is happening and ask them to stop.
When we choose to stay silent and look the other way, we participate in a system that allows violence, discrimination, and
suffering. By taking action when we see something that is not right, we are creating a safer environment for everyone.
