Pastoral Negligence that leads to Ministerial Malpractice

If you are reading this there is a great chance you are leading a
spiritual movement in your place of worship or study. Your capacity could be
as Pastor, minister, deacon, trustee, elder, teacher, or other committee
leader. The purpose of this writing could be to refresh, instruct or provide
information that will further your understanding of spiritual leadership roles.
The majority of the information is for Pastors or Shepherds, but again, it
could be a tool for all to learn the ways of leadership that are good in the
eyes of the Lord.

The vast majority of this teaching will be from the book of 1
Timothy found in the New Testament and the King James Version will be
used as reference. Paul writes this letter to a young Timothy, age 35 – 37 at
the time of the writing. The letters purpose was to instruct Timothy on how
to conduct himself as one who was to shepherd a flock based on the
teachings of Jesus Christ from God the Father. The letter contains six
chapters that are very direct and to the point.

The sole purpose of this teaching material is to re-affirm the
teachings of Paul on what is expected of Church leaders in order to protect
and feed the sheep that have been entrusted to them. I want to clarify that
by no means is this being published to accuse the reader of any negligence in
their teachings. This is to be used as teaching material based on your level of
leadership and knowledge. All scripture should teach, correct, and cut as
needed based on the personal spirit of the reader. When the Spirit came on
me to write this I was very reluctant to say the least but after doors, mouths
and hearts were opened up to me, it became apparent that I could not
escape the path the Spirit had for me. When we are called to perform a task
and deny it we soon learn that Father is not happy and he will get your
attention, ask Jonah about it, he ran and why? When he stopped running and
fulfilled his calling an entire country was spared from the wrath of God. When
our calling is answered we assume the duties that can lead a lost soul to
Jesus and the Kingdom or falsely taught , can lead them to eternal
damnation. The job of Shepherd should be taken more serious than any job
you have. If you teach the Gospel and adhere to ALL the words that begin in
Genesis 1: 1 with, In the beginning, and ends in Revelations 22:21 with
Amen, you will not go wrong. Every word, sentence, verse and chapter has
meaning and teaching that when taught correctly, changes a soul. The
Gospel should be studied thoroughly, taught with zeal and protected with all
your armor.

A final thought before we begin with the text would be this. You
have only one Book to master and the Master wrote it. He gave it to you with
His desire being that you read it, understand it and teach it. He will provide
all the tools you need to understand it, if you are willing to teach it truly. May
Elohim add meaning, resolve and a blessing to this text.

Remembrance and Warnings

The Shepherd who truly wants to protect and feed his flock
and see them attain the Kingdom of God must be willing to be honest in
acknowledging and correcting Spiritual errors. Always remember we are not
called to “pet” sheep but to care for them. Sound doctrine will ensure that all
who hear your voice will recognize the calling bestowed upon you by Elohim.
Your words should instruct and also act as a two edged sword that will cut
the evil from the Good.

1 Timothy 4:6 King James Version

6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a
good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good
doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.

20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane
and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

Chapter Two

Avoiding Unholy Teachings

It is critical that you are a student of the Scriptures. Be careful
to study the Greek and Hebrew languages to assure the words you read and
speak are being used in proper context. As the Bible gets translated into
more and more languages and styles it has lost its meaning and sadly it is
taught falsely by Pastors who do not study the original meanings from the
King James Version. You must trust only the original translation and the
words meanings. Be exhaustive in your studies. Search all trusted resources
to verify your statements to be true to the original context. Remember that
teaching false versions due to lack of research constitutes “false teachings”.
Do not be accused of pastoral negligence or ministerial malpractice.

The best advice I can offer in your studies is to do as Moses did
when his flock was thirsty, pound the rock until it gushes. Pound the Bible
until it flows freely with living water. If you pound the book it will spring open
into a never ending well of knowledge.

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor
standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But
his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and
night.

Chapter Three

Personal Godliness in Your Spiritual, Mental and Physical Capacities

In order to maintain a sharpness of all three of the above
attributes you must understand what each one is and requires. They must be
properly nourished and maintained to grow and be effective in teaching.

We will begin with the physical aspect of your being. Look
at Paul’s letter to Timothy. It profits little, but it profits none the less.

8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things,
having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Although not much of your physical strength plays into
your teaching, it does benefit you to stay healthy for the battles you will face
with illness, age, and normal wear and tear on the body as you mature. The
healthier you are the longer you can grow Gods Kingdom. Keep in mind its
hard work to teach and preach, Sundays, Wednesday, revivals, weddings,
funerals and so on when you are out of breath and energy. Maintain a
dwelling fit for the Holy Spirit to live in. Try getting several leaders together
and walking, jogging, biking, or working out and grow it into a group of
devout religious leaders set on changing the scene of the religious world.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

The third and most important part of your completeness is your
spiritual being. In the following verse you will see that the Holy Spirit,
delivered to us through the Atonement, is the guiding light in a dark world. It
is all you need if you let it direct you and listen to that still small voice.

John 14:26 King James Version

26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in
my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your
remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

This verse says it all; the spirit is there to help you. Call on the Spirit with an
honest heart and it will direct, teach, tool, supply, and help you see the light
when you are in the darkest hours. The Holy Spirit only knows the truth and
the light, so until you ask earnestly and choose to follow its path it will
remain idle in you waiting until you are ready. It will provide direction to
allow you to feed the flock. You can only lead the Church of God when the
Spirit is working in you. Without it your teachings are vain janglings that lead
to false teachings. Romans 8:6 tells us that to be spiritually minded is life and
peace. The Holy Spirit is the easiest of these three to obtain but how often
do we really call on it to help us when we need it. Start calling on the Spirit
to help you and see your situation change and your conscience clear.
Remember to buffet the body and start winning the battles, physically,
mentally and spiritually.

mind or body); by implication, malady; morally, frailty:--disease,
infirmity, sickness, weakness. G772. asthenes as-then-ace' from 1 (as a
negative particle) and the base of G4599; strengthless (in various
applications, literal, figurative and moral):--more feeble, impotent, sick,
without strength, weak(-er, -ness, thing). G4599. sthenoo sthen-o'-o
from sthenos (bodily vigor; probably akin to the base of G2476); to
strengthen, i.e. (figuratively) confirm (in spiritual knowledge and
power):--strengthen.

Chapter Four

The hard work and sacrifice that comes with being a Pastor

1 Timothy 4:10 King James Version

10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the
living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

To be a leader of a flock the Pastor must have complete
dedication to the position in which he has been called. The shepherd must
feed, protect, instruct, admonish, and guide his sheep toward the direction of
the eternal kingdom. The Pastors’ job is never finished. There are no days
off, no vacation days, no sick days, and no medical leave. Pastors are the
target of constant attacks from the enemy. The stress level of a Pastor ranks
in the top of about every professional career survey you will find. Pastors are
on call 24/7, 365 days a year, FOR LIFE…

Here are some statistics to keep in mind about your calling and the brothers
you have out there.

Statistics in the Ministry

90% of the pastors report working between 55 to 75 hours per week.

80% believe pastoral ministry has negatively affected their families. Many
pastor's children do not attend church now because of what the church has
done to their parents.

95% of pastors do not regularly pray with their spouses.

33% state that being in the ministry is an outright hazard to their family.

75% report significant stress-related crisis at least once in their ministry.

90% feel they are inadequately trained to cope with the ministry demands.

80% of pastors and 84% of their spouses feel unqualified and discouraged as
role of pastors.

90% of pastors said the ministry was completely different than what they
thought it would be like before they entered the ministry.

50% feel unable to meet the demands of the job.

70% of pastors constantly fight depression.

70% say they have a lower self-image now than when they first started.

70% do not have someone they consider a close friend.

40% report serious conflict with a parishioner at least once a month.

33% confess having involved in inappropriate sexual behavior with someone
in the church.

50% of pastors feel so discouraged that they would leave the ministry if they
could, but have no other way of making a living.

70% of pastors feel grossly underpaid.

50% of the ministers starting out will not last 5 years.

1 out of every 10 ministers will actually retire as a minister in some form.

94% of clergy families feel the pressures of the pastor's ministry.

80% of spouses feel the pastor is overworked.

80% spouses feel left out and underappreciated by church members.

80% of pastors' spouses wish their spouse would choose a different
profession.

66% of church members expect a minister and family to live at a higher
moral standard than themselves.

Moral values of a Christian are no different than those who consider
themselves as non-Christians.

The average American will tell 23 lies a day.

The profession of “Pastor” is near the bottom of a survey of the most-
respected professions, just above “car salesman”.

4,000 new churches begin each year and 7,000 churches close.

Over 1,700 pastors left the ministry every month last year.

Over 1,300 pastors were terminated by the local church each month, many
without cause.

Over 3,500 people a day left the church last year.

Many denominations report an “empty pulpit crisis”. They cannot find
ministers willing to fill positions.

PLEASE READ THE NEXT STATEMENT CAREFULLY AND CONSIDER YOUR
APPOINTING OF LEADERS AND THEIR CALLING. IT IS YOUR CALLING FOR
GODS CHURCH, NOT YOUR STAFFS OR CONGREGATIONS. USE AUTHORITY
AND COMMAND AS ORDAINED TO YOU.

# 1 reason Pastors leave the ministry — Church people are not willing to go
the same direction and goal of the Pastor. Pastors believe God wants them to
go in one direction but the people are not willing to follow or change.

Statistics provided by The Fuller Institute, George Barna, and Pastoral Care
Inc.

Pastors deal with more sickness and death than medical
personnel. In times of need we are a buffer between congregants and the
court, we are midnight marriage counselors, we are an ear to those with
financial struggles, we are the light for lost co-workers, we are the source of
food when that call with hunger comes in, and we are the teen’s ear when
mom and dad just don’t get it. We are the subject of every “Wednesday night
and Sunday morning arm chair Theologian” who says, could have, would
have, should have but never does and never has. Credit to Victor and Billy
James (BJ), Crew Love for those lyrics from the CD Crosses or Crowns, but it’s
true.

These are a few adjectives to describe the Pastor, see how
many you relate to; agonizing, laborious, nonstop, stressful, relentless,
consuming, demanding, painful, but at the same time rewarding, joyful,
fruitful, satisfying, and a true blessing. Keep fighting the good fight and you
will surely get a crown. Do it because you are called not because you have
to.

Acts 20:20 King James Version

20 And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have
shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house,

Chapter Five

Using controlled authority as a Pastor

As the Pastor of a congregation it is vital to the Church that
your vision for the Church is the one that is followed. Your vision from God
must be the one that is used to achieve his ultimate goal of souls being won
and Gods Kingdom being uplifted. Keep in mind that does not mean that you
must “micro-manage” every aspect of the Church, after all that is why you
and your staff appoint people to help the vision and the ministry grow. The
people you place into position should be there to further your goals. Let your
organization leaders do their part to grow your ministry; you need only to
intercede when the vision is being altered and the Spirit warns you of this.
The Pastor has to make tough decisions when the vision is altered, but you
must remember that sound doctrine is the ONLY way for the sheep to
achieve the ultimate goal. Just like everyone in their daily walk, we as
Pastors become complacent sometimes and let those close to us alter the
vision from the Spirit. Trust in your deacons and associate ministers’ opinions
and let them help you. Remember your role is to grow disciples not a large
congregation.

11 These things command and teach.

This particular part of this teaching is going to be a little difficult
to digest for some but as God has shown me it is true and happens in
churches more than you realize. If I am sitting under you as a minister,
associate pastor, or deacon I need you to be the head, the shepherd, and the
pastor. This role in the church is not by committee, not by a team, not co-
Pastoring. There cannot be two heads to a body; there are not two final
decision makers. If there are two masters to lead, then there will be
separation in the church. The dual masters will lead to confusion and bring
the church down.

Matthew 6:24 King James Version

24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love
the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot
serve God and mammon.

I had the privilege of sitting in the pews when Dr. Venoy E.
Pearson was Pastor at the First Church of God in Lenoir, NC. His leadership
role was strong, and known. When he was in the church he commanded the
pulpit and when he entered a room it was his to teach. His wisdom led to the
calmness that allowed him to control any situation. He did not share the
Pastor role, he used it with great authority to teach and lead. To lead you
must follow, and to be followed YOU must lead. Be a leader that your sheep
will run to in times of fear. Given choices they will be torn and separated and
confused.

things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any
virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

1 Chronicles 29:17 King James Version

17 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in
uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly
offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are
present here, to offer willingly unto thee.

Leaders should maintain a thorough Biblical course of study

The following scripture could be all that is needed in this
section, but there are a few considerations to consider on this subject matter.

1 Timothy 4:13King James Version

13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after
their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto
fables.

There are several excellent books to help with your studies along
with countless verified websites that convert the languages quickly and
accurately. I would highly recommend at least looking at some of the
information just to see the scope of the light that can be shed on a passage

ever. I have listed these resources in the back of this teaching for your

Use your gifts to uplift the Kingdom of God

This section contains only scripture. These scriptures are to remind
us that we are to use our gift that Elohim has given us to build his Kingdom.
The church that has been handed to you to direct is a precious, living,
breathing organism that needs much nurturing and LOVE. We all fall short at
times and the beauty of the Father is that it’s okay, his grace and mercy
covers a multitude of our transgressions. Repent and don’t repeat and you
will be fine. If we are doing what the Spirit instructs we shall run a good race
and when our day for judgment comes we will be able to receive our
mansion, and crown and blessings that we are told that are deserving of us
for doing God’s work.

1 Timothy 4:14 King James Version

14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy,
with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

2 Timothy 4:2 King James Version

2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke,
exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.

Chapter Nine

Closing Thoughts

Brethren over the course of eight months I have had an extremely
strange ride with the Lord. He has taken me to some strange places to get
his word and I have never left the state of North Carolina. I left a job where I
was very, very comfortable financially and was progressing in management
quickly. To say the least I had it made, no worries right? Wrong, the stress of
being a dedicated professional has its cost. Early mornings, late nights, never
ending emails and phone calls, wee hours of the morning alarms to check on
at office, loss of family time, children becoming adults, and the hardest of all
when your wife tells you that you are becoming a stranger because you don’t
see her much and when you do you are complaining about work. My
dedication to that world was Lee being Lee. I refuse to lose and if you know
me you know the spirit of determination and success that I have. I will not
settle for less than perfect. For about two years I had heard Gods small voice
telling me to use the calling he had ordained me with to help build strong,
morally correct men who would fight for the Christian faith and keep the hope
of “a few good men alive”. I battled his command forever it seemed until one
day the voice was so loud, I called Mary and said I am done with this stress
and I advised my employer that God called and I answered.

November 2015, I decided to let that warrior mentality work for
Gods Kingdom and not for the monetary reasons that most of us live for.
Since that day I have felt a sense of freedom I did not know existed. Burdens
were gone, doors were opened, lights illuminated the darkness that I battled,
and the enemies became allies. God put people in my path that I had never
met that simply would drop a verse, a note , a song and it all started to come
together like a puzzle that everyone had a part in. Then out of the blue God
throws a curve ball that no one could hit. He speaks to me and says now I
need you to start a Men’s mentoring ministry and I will send you 100 men to
train up in my ways and you will be a part of a game changing movement
that your fleshy world needs. So once again I tell my wife that we are leaving
our Church to pursue what Elohim would have me do. I think that leaving
First Church of God caught everyone by surprise, “but isn’t that God”.
Remember it’s his world not ours.

Here comes the strangest part of this roller coaster ride. A close
brother from Church, Eric Perkins, says that their company needs a
maintenance technician; remember me leaving that world? I go in to an
interview, and only God know why, I was not interested in that job at all. The
Holy Spirit said it’s your next step go take it. I take the job and for a few days
asking God, what is this all about? I mean really, I was doing this work
making five times more, leading the department and now I am but a lowly
maintenance man who is very confused by you. God why????

Okay here we go, the job is not about money, or as far as that
goes it’s not even about maintenance. The maintenance manager starts
talking one day and we begin talking, religion, life, truth and so on. I say I
am a Pastor, he smiles. We talk more over the course of a few weeks, then
boom, GOD showed me the reason and the why. This individual starts
explaining things I never knew; starts explaining that the last thirty plus
years for him has been seeking the truth. He brings in countless study guides
and all of the sudden the scriptures become clear. We are now talking all
kinds of truth, light and Holy Spirit. Then one afternoon about two months in,
I get it, God showed me that no money, no title, no bank account means
anything if it is all for the wrong reason. Sometimes the humbling hurts and
is confusing but on the other side of it comes a peace that nothing can
replace. This daily study with John has led to my wife and I having our daily
studies. Sundays are filled with mountain hiking and church in Gods building
(the openness of the Appalachian Mountains.) I am currently leading and
mentoring about 20 men on a weekly basis, speaking to various groups and
more importantly writing these teachings to help these 20 men become the
100 men God called for.

Pastors there were some comments and scripture that may have
seemed harsh or hit a nerve but let’s face it in this cruel, and painful world
our sheep count on us and it’s our duty to battle to the death with an
adversary that will not stop. At the end of the day it is not about money, a
mega church, a banging PA system, a gymnasium, or even about our
buildings. It is about the eternal souls of our sheep having two choices, a
cruel eternal hell, or a wonderful eternal heaven. Help them know that it is
real and we can overcome any attack. Caldwell County is lacking in money,
jobs, Christian based homes and it is our responsibility to lead.

Acknowledgements

I would like to take this page to acknowledge some folks who I have been
associated with and I feel the world needs to know them and their
contribution to Gods Kingdom. These are in no particular order and each has
really inspired in various ways. I love you all and I know that God is who he
says he is.

Thank God for my existence and his being patient while I was acting as a
Jonah.

Mary Monique Sigmon, my First Lady. Only we know what we have spiritually.

Our children, Carleigh, Rasheed, Eric, Amanda, and Tyran for the TESTS…..

My parents Carl and Linda Sigmon, who taught me work ethic, to never stop,
a lost trait in these days.

My brother David Sigmon and my sister Lisa Sigmon Miller, we don’t get
together much, but God knows the heart.

Rev. Mitchell and Sister Laura Brittain, these two are battle ready and prayer
warriors. I thank God for the wisdom and knowledge; it got me to and
through a lot of sleepless nights.

Minister Mary Witherspoon at the FCoG in Lenoir, your prayers and thoughts
were received and felt. Your enthusiasm is remarkable. Awesome teacher of
the Word.

Pastor Jerome Pearson of the FCoG in Lenoir, thank you for your pulpit and
the freedom to teach what God was sending.

Head Deacon Kyle Patterson for support and encouragement when it got
real.

My brother (from another mother) Darrell Perkins. Sorry, I had to brother. If
they only knew the testimony they would know that God lives and CAN DO,
when we WON’T DO. Love you boy!!!!!!

Pastor James Wilfong at Highways to Hedges, I never belonged to your
Church but I feel the love and support from over here. Pastor you are a
warrior, keep fighting brother.

A huge thank you to Victor Salvat and Billy James (BJ) Boughman, more
affectionately known as Crew Love. These two showed me that your
message can come in any form and it’s the content of the message not the
delivery. Brothers you will never know the way you inspired me to be Lee and
teach my way. I dropped some of your lyrics into my teachings here and I
want you to know that your songs alone are helping to save a generation. I
see it and claim it. Thanks for staying true to you. Love you guys!!!!!

Last, but by far not least, I spoke of John, my manager, a little earlier.
Brother thank you!!! This will not make sense to most, but John Crawford,
the talk about the shadows in the cave and coming out into the light, well I
am out and the cave is closed. I have had an awesome and eye opening time
in our studies, they caused some sleepless nights, but the good kind filled
with research and contemplations of the truth. Love you brother!!!!!!!
