Leading With a

High Note

What is in the DASH?

In 2018 we began Leading With a High Note under
the Excellence Administration. Our actions from
that point in time until this point in 2022 (2018-
2022) define what is in the “Dash”.

KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Since July of 2018, I began my tenure as your
Regional Director, I have:
• Represented you on the Directorate;
• Connected with our Divine 9 counterparts, the

Congressional Black Caucus and others on
common concerns;
• Provided written greetings, key note addresses,
resolutions and other requests for chapter
events, Cluster Conferences and other events
hosted by various social and civic organizations;
• Hosted the North Atlantic Region’s Leadership
Summits, Clusters, Undergraduate Round Ups,
Regional Conferences and Boule Gatherings;
and
• Conducted workshops and advised chapters
and sorors on operations.

SERVICE

Chapters across the region have embraced the
Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable
Service Program established by our Supreme
Basileus. I thank Soror Tonja Ringgold, Regional
Program Chairman and the regional program
committee for guiding the region to exceed the
goals in all program targets. We will celebrate the
outstanding accomplishments with awards at this
conference.

4

SISTERHOOD

We have strengthened our sisterhood as seen in how we continue to honor our…Goldens, …Silvers and
for the first time in person…our Precious Pearls! We pay respect to the legacy of love as we remember
our sorors who are now Ivies Beyond the Wall.
I thank you for agreeing to establish the Diamond Soror EAF fund. And with your support, we have
established the Pearl Soror EAF fund to support the Pearl Sorors in attending conferences.
We extended Regional Conference registration to enable sorors who were new initiates and reactivating
to attend with no late fee.

MEMBERSHIP

Currently we have over 14,000 active members in the North Atlantic Region. We have 152 Chapters: 82
Graduate and 70 Undergraduate (8 of which are inactive or suspended), and
Four (4) Graduate interest groups.

• Hidden Pearls of Staten Island (*Chartered 6/12/22, Alpha Beta Pi Omega)
• Pink Pearls of Pascack Valley (*Chartered 6/14/22, Alpha Beta Rho Omega)
• Capital City Pearls
• York Pearls in Pennsylvania
And we celebrated seven (7) Charterings in the Dash:
• December 8, 2018: Upsilon Iota- Bridgewater State University with the hard work of

supervising graduate chapter Psi Iota Psi (Brockton, Massachusetts)
• December 8, 2019: Alpha Alpha Lambda Omega (Hyattsville Maryland)
• January 12, 2020: Alpha Alpha Mu Omega (Sussex County, Delaware)
• May 16, 2021: Alpha Alpha Sigma Omega (Prince Georges County, Maryland)
• May 16, 2021: Alpha Alpha Tau Omega (Middletown Odessa Townsend, Delaware)

5

We also had 100% EOY Best of the Best Online Reporting four (4) years in a row. Thank you to the Regional
Membership Committee led by Soror Arla J. Bentley. With your help we have seen a record number of
reactivated sorors in the North Atlantic Region during this administration-5,000 and counting.

MEMBERSHIP INTAKE

We continue to grow the ivy vine this year with a total of 103 requests (68 Undergraduate and 35
Graduate). In Fall 2020 we welcomed 72 new initiates from 9 undergraduate chapters. From 2021-2022 we
welcomed 887 initiates from 94 undergraduate chapters and 1271 initiates from 42 graduate chapters.* The
creative use of technology by chapters to manage the workload made the shift to our Modified MIP Process
seamless. Chapters worked hard and set the bar high with some amazing virtual activities to support the
intake process which you will hear about in the MIP workshops.

HAZING AND OTHER VIOLATIONS OF SORORITY POLICY

The North Atlantic Region Standards Investigation Committee under the stellar leadership of Soror Norma
Evans is tasked with conducting prompt, fair, and objective fact-finding investigations of matters involving
alleged hazing and non-hazing incidents as assigned by the Regional Director or Supreme Basileus. Since
the last Regional Conference, the committee has completed 20 investigations and has seven (7) pending.

UNDERGRADUATES

These sorors have been creative in their implementation of programs and resourceful as they transitioned
from the pandemic isolation restrictions and are now back to being in-person on campus. Kudos to the 223
Sorors who have achieved a 4.0 GPA. We applaud our 13 Leadership Fellows and our graduating seniors--
job well done!

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Help me congratulate the North Atlantic Region 2022 Fellows.:
• Rhemie Adams, Epsilon Nu, Lincoln University
• Briana Brown, Zeta Sigma, The College Of New Jersey
• Cheyanne Brown, Delta Mu, Temple University
• Raven Risco, Delta Mu, Temple University
• Brianna Taylor, Mu Delta, The George Washington University
• Sheila Warrick, Lambda, Barnard College
• Zoe Welsh, Gamma Epsilon, Saint Joseph’s University
• Camille West, Tau Alpha, Widener University

I thank Soror Karen Spruill, North Atlantic Representative to the Leadership Fellows led by Soror Elicia
Spearman, Chairman of the International Leadership Fellows Program. We have seen outstanding fellows
from the North Atlantic.

ANNA EASTER BROWN LEADERSHIP
INSTITUTE

We culminate the Region’s commitment to develop leaders
with the Anna Easter Brown Leadership Institute by
celebrating their success with the graduation of the 2021-2022
AEBLI Scholars. They have published “Reflections on
Leadership”, networked with each other and other leaders,
visited participating chapters, had small group conversations
with the Regional Director. Thanks to Soror Jacqueline
McGuire, Dean and her colleagues, Soror Angela Williams and
Soror Kendra Brown Associate Deans.

FISCAL STEWARDSHIP

In 2018, your mandate for sound fiscal stewardship was loud
and clear. I am pleased to report that Black is beautiful! With
your help, all bills generated during this administration are
current. Expenditures that were incurred during the previous
administration have been paid. We went from $300,000+ owed
in July 2018 to a $0.00 balance.

A summary of the past and present financial condition will be in
the Regional Tamiouchos’ Report. The December 2021 Audit
Report from the Corporate office was mailed to all chapters. You
will note that the NAR is doing well. The following initiatives
established under the leadership of the Leading With A High
Note administration fortified the region’s finances:
• Strong Regional Tamiouchos/Finance Team
• North Atlantic Region Kurrency
• AKArazzi (volunteer soror photographers).
• Soror Power (professionals working gratis)
• Corporate and Soror sponsorship
• Partnership with a conference planning expert and
• Setting a budget and sticking to it.

Sorors, we accomplished this without asking you for chapter
assessments! Special Thanks to the Soror Shariah Dixon-
Turner, Regional Tamiouchos as she leads the Regional
Pecunious Grammateus and Regional Finance Committee in
keeping us on track to be blackity black black. We have set
aside a minimum of $200,000.00 to support the financial
foundation for the incoming regional administration.*

Working together, this fiscal stewardship has allowed us to have
a bigger charitable footprint in this dash between 2018 and
2022, with a total of $248,002 in charitable donations during
this Administration. And as my administration concludes, each
chapter/foundation in the region will also receive a minimum of
$1,500 to be used for charitable efforts!*

4

7

EAF

Our charitable footprint is most evident with EAF. Madam
Supreme charged each region with capitalizing 8 EAF funds
during the Excellence administration. To date, 22 EAF Funds
have been capitalized during this administration. Most recently,
the Living Legends EAF Fund. And with your help, we will raise
that number as you will hear more during the EAF report.

Thank you for your support of the Mary Bentley LaMar Caring
for Those Who Care Fund through the Education Advancement
Foundation. The fund had its first distribution this year.
Congratulations on contributing over $267, 978.72 to the HBCU
campaign.

During my administration, the following endowments were
initiated:
 Mary Bentley LaMar – Caring for Those Who Care
 Living Legends Grant
 North Atlantic Region Catastrophic Assistance Endowment
 North Atlantic Region Diamond Soror Endowment
 North Atlantic Region Pearl Soror Endowment
 North Atlantic Region Self Care Fellowship Endowment
Additionally, each Living Legend received $10,000 towards her endowment.*

ACTION ITEMS

We have a number of action items coming up:
• Be intentional and stay fiscally healthy
• Vote, Get Out The Vote and Be Counted!
• Celebrate our HERSTORY

Our most important action item: Vote, Get Out The Vote and Be Counted! Celebrate our herstory with
Soror Kamala Harris, VPOTUS and Ketanji Jackson-Brown Supreme Court Justice. I challenge you to
follow in their footsteps by supporting candidates who reflect your views up and down the ballot.

Boule is coming where we will gather for the last time under the Excellence Administration. It is a time of
new beginnings as new officers are installed and we mark a point in time to measure. What is in the dash?
That is up to you.
Sorors, it truly is an honor to serve as your Regional Director. I want to express sincere gratitude for the
exceptional work of the regional leadership team. Their commitment and dedication to achieving the
highest standards continues to amaze me.
Communications, Finance, Technology, Administrative Assistants, International and Regional Chairs and
committee members, Conference planners, General Member Liaison and Cluster Coordinators. I appreciate
the support of my chapter Omicron Xi Omega under the leadership of Soror Jasmine Malloy---your labor of
love is heartfelt and appreciated.
I also want to acknowledge my family for their unwavering support-- my husband, Ansley LaMar and our
son, Hunter…my sisters- Connie McGhee and Ruby Clayton, and my cousin Tamara Valentine who are with
me this morning.

2018-2022 Sisterhood is in the dash
Scholarship is in the dash
Service is in the dash

Thank YOU! YOU My Sisters in Service are the Excellence in the dash.

Sorors of the Notable North Atlantic Region!

Thank you so much for your support, commitment, outstanding contribution
appeal response, and appreciation shown as I served as your 2018-2022
North Atlantic Regional EAF Coordinator.

As I reflect upon the time we shared, my goal was to ensure that you would
receive timely, accurate information, with complete transparency in all EAF
matters. This hopefully has assisted you to increase your EAF-Q as I led the
North Atlantic Region. You have a chance to witness history during the EAF
Breakfast at the Boule on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 as we receive a record
number of Green Diamond Awards. Tickets are still available for $70. Wear
your green and white with pride as you represent the North Atlantic Region.

In October 2019, at our EAF Board Meeting in Philadelphia, PA, Madam
Supreme requested that EAF Regional Coordinators create and/or capitalize
a minimum of eight Endowments under her administration. Notable North
Atlantic Region Sorors, with your hard work and steadfast support, we far
exceeded the minimum request by creating and capitalizing 26
Endowments! In order to apply for the Endowments, you must use the
*Non-Traditional Endowment Application or the Traditional Endowment

NORTH ATLANTIC REGION COMMITTEES

GENERAL MEMBERS

Dear Sorors,

It was in late 2018 when I introduced myself to the North
Atlantic Region and shared my goals as NAR General
Members’ Liaison.

1.Work with other North Atlantic Regional Resources in Contact:
passing along information to ensure you remain informed Soror Sandra D. Lee
and connected to our great Sisterhood. General Members' Liaison
[email protected]
2.Serve as an immediate point of contact to answer any (917) 816-1883
questions General Member sorors may have about the
region.

3.Encourage sorors to remain committed to the Sisterhood
and involved in area activities while not being in a chapter.

I was excited to serve and looked forward to meeting and
supporting our region’s 2,000+ General Members. I knew
that I wanted to be a resource to those that are not in a
chapter, to make sure their questions were answered, and
they felt they were receiving timely information. I hope
that I exceeded sorors’ expectations.

As my tenure comes to an end, I add gratitude to my
excitement for the sisterly support, love, and partnerships
that I built during the Leading with a High Note
administration. Throughout 2018 -2022, I met wonderful
sorors across all five clusters, welcomed some as they
reactivated or transferred to General Membership, and
wished others well when they returned to a chapter.

It has been a privilege and I thank Madam Regional
Director for appointing me to serve in this capacity.

& with a smile,

Soror Sandra D. Lee
