"DEAR LORD, THOU GREAT PHYSICIAN, I KNEEL BEFORE THEE.
I CE EVERY GOOD AND PERFECT GIFT MUST COME FROM THEE,
I PRAY: GIVE SKILL TO MY HAND, CLEAR VISION TO MY MIND,
KINDNESS AND SYMPATHY TO MY HEART. GIVE ME SINGLENESS
OF PURPOSE, STRENGTH TO LIFT AT LEAST A PART OF THE
BURDEN OF MY SUFFERING FELLOWMEN, AND A TRUE REALIZA
TION OF THE PRIVILEGE THAT IS MINE. TAKE FROM MY HEART
ALL GUILE AND WORLDLINESS THAT WITH SIMPLE FAITH OF A
CHILD I MAY RELY ON THEE.''

SECOND YEAR CLASS
When we arrived at 0. C. P . we had great expectation , enth u ia rn, ambitions,
and yet these feelings were tempered with uncertainty, prudenc , and in ome cases
fear. O ur common goal was evident and yet the ta k ahead bore down upon u
with the seemingly unattainable amount of knm ledge t be gained.
Now as sophomores the expectations and enthu ia m ha e omewhat \ aned
yet the motivating force of ambition seems to spur u on. I note in each man
as never before the earnest desire to learn and omehow ma ter the e eemingly
unsurmountable objectives; that not only lead to a degree f D.P.M. but also
lead to the success and the confidence that comes with the reality in that we
know more about the lower extremity than any other per on.
Therefore, although grades seem to be the measure of succe within these iry
covered halls, grades are not the motivating factor. Behind a facade of jokes,
rumors, ridicule, and sometimes even disinterest beats the hearts of men and
women that all want to do his or her best. We want to do o ur best so that as
Doctors of Podiatric Medicine we will have the knowledge that for the patient
can perform "miracles". What will be knowledge to us will seem virtually a
miracle to them.
Therefore as we are about to enter the clinic, we can't help but feel appre
hensive and perhaps a little disappointed in our feeling that'\! e should have done
better and learned more. Yet somehow we can rest assured that we too will
survive the tide and master the skills which render us qualified for the title of
Doctor.
Each of us anxiously awaits the day when we with pride shall see the results
of the "miracles" of our own knowledge.
