A.P.S.A.

The advancement of any profession lies in the hands of the students who are
preparing for it. As students, our thirst for knowledge should not be outweighed
by any other factor. However, as time and method change, so must our ideas
and goals. For this reason, the students of Podiatric Medicine need to have
unity and strong leadership to guide them to a successful and rewarding
future. The American Podiatry Students Association attempts to provide this
need acting as a liason between the student and the American Podiatry Asso-
ciation. Our close relationship has fostered many of the drastic changes that

have been so evident in our profession.
The A.P.S.A. also functions in three other ways. First, to present the ideas

for change suggested by the student body to the administration of our institu-
tion. As we have seen in the past, the voice of a unified body is heard and
acted upon. Secondly, the A.P.S.A. gathers thoughts and ideas from all five
Colleges of Podiatric Medicine in an attempt to coordinate the education of all
the students of our profession. In this way, we can all be included in a planned
and efficient mode of education. Thirdly, it is our duty to educate the public
in proper foot care and prevention of foot disorders. Not only do we sponsor
Foot Health Week annually, but we also, this past year, have attempted to

publicize Podiatric Medicine on a daily basis.
As president of your A.P.S.A., I cannot offer better advice to my fellow stu-

dents than to strive for perfection in our Podiatric endevors. We can never
learn too much, and we can always help each other to learn a little more.

The programs and Jund-raising events presented by the Womens' Board of the Ohio
College of Podiatric Medicine were more varied and appealing than those of past years.
The programs ranged from a lecture on medical malpractice by a prominent Cleveland
attorney to mini-jitsu, the art of self defense, by an expert. Fund-raising included a
rummage sale and the sale of caduceus jewelry and candy. The money raised was used
to purchase a gift for the Foot Clinic.

Any organization is as successful as its membership makes it. I would like to thank
the officers and members for a most successful and rewarding year.

PHI ALPHA PI

Phi Alpha Pi Fraternity, this year more so than in the past, is striving to put
its best foot forward in an effort to advance the everchanging profession of
Podiatry. We are constantly looking to the future seeking newer methods to
increase the didatic and clinical acumen of its members as well as promote a
closer liason between the podiatrist and the physician.

In reaching for these goals, Phi offers a well-balanced program which in-
cludes an outstanding lecture series, bi-monthly clinical demonstrations, and
clinical facilities at the Franciscan Convent.

Since Phi is not one to rest on its laurels, we are expanding our present

clinical opportunities to include the Harbor Lights center. When complete and
fully operational this year, our program will offer the best of facilities for the
diagnosis and management in all phases ofPodiatry.

I would like to express my gratitude to an executive board which has worked
endlessly for a well functioning fraternity. Special thanks go to Drs. Rocco
Palermo and Lem Stewart for their constant supervision and advice. To the
remaining brothers of Phi, I wish continued success.

ALPHA GAMMA KAPPA

The profession of Podiatric Medicine continues to expand and evolve at an ever
increasing rate. With this evolution, the Podiatry student must also expand his knowl-
edge and, therefore, prepare himself for the responsibilities that are manifested in the
degree of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine.

This year Alpha Gamma Kappa has instituted weekly scientific and educational
meetings into its program as a means to further knowledge and as an aid to complete
awareness of our professional environment. These meetings consist of lectures and
practical demonstrations of various aspects of Podiatric Medicine, such as the applica-
tion of a walking cast, biomechanical measurements, and the clinical approach to
Roentgenology. These are just a few of the topics of discussion . A program which is
expected to expand physically in the near future is the Eastern Star Nursing Home.
A .G .K. has already been allotted an increased work area which now enables our
members a greater opportunity in the attainment of Podiatric skills. A. G.K. will con-
tinue to sponser its annual Cleveland Clinic Lecture Series as an integral part of our
genuine effort to share and to broaden the educational scope of all students of Podiatric
Medicine.

As in past years, A. G.K. sponsored various social activities throughout the year
which included a very successful Ox R oast, Halloween Party, and our annual Spring
Dinner Dance.

Traditionally, the brothers of A. G.K. have experienced a feeling of close unity.
Through working together with common goals, A.G.K. has expanded and evolved with
our profession. I would like to thank my Executive Board and all brothers of Alpha
Gamma Kappa for truely making this a successful year. The brothers of A .G.K. would
like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Robert Gosselin for his years of service to the
fraternity as advisor.
