3 tips to help you

Tip 3
Consistency
Summer is a great time for rules and routines to fly out of the window as
everyone is in a more relaxed mindset and if this works for your household,
no problem at all.
In most households, a little bit of routine and consistency goes a long way.
How will you bring more consistency to your family this Summer?
Whatever we focus on in our parenting grows, so if you consistently notice
your kids being naughty, answering back, fighting and you comment,
shout and tell them off, like it or not it will continue to be part of what is
seen. If you focus on praising your kids, noticing when they are playing
calmly, being nice to their brother or eating with a knife and fork rather
than their fingers and you comment on this, you guessed it you will see
more reasons to notice them for the right reasons. Your kids will respond
and want to be in theory noticed for the positive and stress levels go
down.
If you give a threat, follow through on it as your kids will see through you if
you don’t they will know that they can get away with things. Be consistent.
Praise your kids, not just for the end product but for the process. Be
consistent.
If you decide on Summer Rules, as mentioned above. Be consistent.
If you decide you will have a weekly family meeting to discuss the week
ahead, do it. Be consistent.
I think you get the idea!

Creating

memories

A LittleLions-Rugby themed birthday party is a fantastic fun-filled way to

celebrate your child’s birthday and an ideal activity for children who love
to burn off energy, run around, play games and have fun with their friends.

Parties can be arranged outdoors in local parks. Indoor parties can
be arranged too where space allows. Parties are suited to both girls and
boys between the ages of 2.5 and 7 years old.

What’s really great about a LittleLions-Rugby party is that the day
lives on much longer than just the day. The birthday boy/girl and all their
friends will go home lots of new skills and happy memories from their
party experience

Put a smile on your child’s face and give them a party to remember!

and/or swim could save your child’s life one day,
so Water Babies teach vital safety techniques • Agree a designated adult supervisor in
from birth. With the holiday season approaching
we thought it would be useful to share some the water. They should focus solely on the
essential water safety advice to help keep your children. (not be distracted by their phone,
little one safe in and around water reading a book, chatting with a friend)

• Be aware of the environment and ensure your

child is too. For example, where is the deep

end, are there any pool features that may
cause an issue for younger children (e.g. wave
machine, slides)

• Ensure your child knows to ask permission

before entering the water.

• Where possible, teach your child basic safety

rules, don’t run near water, don’t jump in

unsupervised.

• Do not assume if they are wearing a floatation

device that they are safe.

• Do not assume that if they can swim, they

are safe. Even strong swimmers can get into
trouble in the water.

• At home, always ensure water is covered or

fenced, empty paddling pools when not in

use, fence off ponds.

A flying
start!

SOME children start school in September without having read much

over the summer holidays and may even be at a lower reading level than
at the end of the previous year. A little bit of reading in the holidays will
prevent this and get children off to a flying start!

Ensure you always have a good range of reading material to hand
wherever you are. If you are close to a library, join the Summer Reading
Challenge. If you would rather books are regularly delivered to your home,
join the Reading Chest book rental service and let your children choose
from a huge range of books at just the right reading level. Reading
Chest also offers other incentives such as reward charts, stickers and
certificates. Children won’t be able to resist opening their own regular
postal deliveries of exciting books!

Three options

FROM September, Ashdown Lodge, home to our youngest pupils, is

offering three childcare options for nursery age children.
1.  Term Time – perfect for parents who don’t need additional childcare during
school holidays.
2.  Term Time Plus 8 - based on the normal school term time calendar plus an
additional 8 weeks during school holidays. This option gives parents the
convenience of some child care during the longer holiday periods.
3.  All Year Round - based on 51 weeks of childcare a year. This option offers
parents complete peace of mind for non-stop childcare.

Combined with outstanding facilities, an exciting, refurbished outdoor
play area, beautiful grounds and highly experienced and qualified staff, these
innovations position Brontë House as a leading childcare specialist in the area.

Care during term time and throughout the holidays includes all meals and
runs from 7.30am until 6.00pm, perfect for busy families.

A helping hand

GHYLL Royd Pre-School is delighted to announce that from September

the Nursery will be open for 50 weeks of the year!
Headteacher David Martin said: “Our doors will be open throughout the

school holidays for children aged 2-5 to enjoy, explore and learn in a safe
and stimulating environment with practitioners they know, love and trust!
We understand the needs of working parents and that there is a demand
for more childcare and earlier opening times. We have listened and we are
looking forward to delivering these new services to families from September.
Come and visit us any time. Our doors are always open!”

Ghyll Royd Pre-School and Nursery is set in seven acres of meadow and
woodland.

In 2019, Ghyll Royd has been shortlisted as one of the top five
independent small schools in the country in the Independent School of the
