TARANG 2022 EVENT DESCRIPTION
To add an exciting dimension to the learning experience, Indian School Al Maabela offers myriad
openings for the students to participate in a diverse range of programmes that give every student a
chance to get excited and get involved in order to pursue new interests and talents. Keeping the same
objective in mind, Indian School Al Maabela has taken the initiative of organizing Tarang 2022 – Inter-
House Cultural Fiesta for the senior students (Classes IX – XII) for the academic year 2022-23.

handbook. For solo events, one student can participate in a maximum of three events.

The theme, music, costumes and make-up should be of traditional Bharatanatyam style.
Duration of performance: Maximum 10 minutes
Audio for the Performance: USB that can be played on ‘Windows Media Player’consisting of only the
audio track for the performance should be handed over to the teacher-in-charge well before the schedule.
The USB should contain ONLY the audio track for participant’s performance.
Keep a backup USB.
Judging Criteria (Out of 50 Marks):
Accessories & choreography – 10; Music – 10; Nrithya – 10; Nritta – 10; Abhinaya – 10
INDIAN FOLK DANCE – SOLO
The theme should be appropriate for school competitions and respect the culture and traditions ofOman
and India.
Song and dance should be of Indian Traditional Folk only. Teams performing styles that come under
ritual, tribal, classical and cinematic folk will be disqualified.
Duration of performance shall be maximum of 5 minutes.
Audio for the Performance: A USB that can be played on ‘Windows Media Player’consisting of only
the audio track for the performance should be handed over to the teacher-in-charge well before the
schedule.

Semi- classical dances are allowed.
The theme, costumes and make-up should be appropriate for the dance style and school competitionsin
Oman.
Duration of performance 5-7 minutes
Each team can consist of 5-8 students.
Audio CD for the Performance: A USB that can be played on ‘Windows Media Player’ consisting of only
the audio track for the performance should be handed over to the teacher in-charge well before the schedule.
The USB should contain ONLY the audio track for the participant’s performance.

Sculpture size (Minimum height 1feet, depth and width can vary, according to the theme & proportion)
Theme: Choice of the participants
Participants are allowed to use the following materials like newspaper, colour paper, crape paper, thermocol,
sponge, wax, ice, clay, sand, dry leaf, flower petals, grass, pencil scraping curls, glitter,cloth and waste
material. Use of scissors, Sculpture tools, blades, cutters etc. will be allowed for the making purpose.
Participants are allowed to use colours (water, crayon, oil, spray, glue gun, fevicol)
Pencil can be used only for outline drawing. Border, if any, should be made with the permitted materials only.
Duration of competition - 45 minutes.

GRAPHITE PENCIL DRAWING-SOLO
Paper size (420 x 594 mm / 16.5 x 23.4 inches)
Theme: BIRDS
Participants are allowed to use any type of shading pencils/ charcoal pencils to make the picture.
Judging Criteria (Out of 50 Marks):
Realistic drawing – 10; Image should fill in the page – 10; At least three to four values (dark to lightshades) – 10;
Good imaginary background – 10; Neatness- finishing – 10

COLLAGE – GROUP
Team Size: 3-4 students
An A3 sheet MUST be used for the collage. The paper should be brought by the participants.
Theme: India @ 2040
Art materials should be brought by the participants.
Participants are allowed to use the following materials to make their collage:
Any type of paper (newspaper, colour, crepe, waste etc), dry leaf, flower petals, grass etc., pencil scraping
curls, gilt, cloth and waste material etc. (Use of scissors, blades, cutters etc. shall be allowed for cutting
purposes)
Participants are NOT allowed to use colours (water, crayon, oil, spray, etc.)
Printed photographs/pictures etc., pre-drawn articles may be used as a unit but not as a whole picture.
Pencil may be used only for outline drawing. Border, if any, shall be made with the allowed materials only.
Participants may use appropriate slogans, quotations, captions, etc.
Participants’ Chest Number will be attached to the collage.
Participants may refer to pictures/photographs to aid the making of the collage during thecompetition.
Participants may trace a ‘prepared outline’ of the collage design on the given drawing-sheet.
Duration of the competition- 1 hour.

RANGOLI- GROUP
Team Size: Maximum 3 to 4 students
Theme: Open theme
Floor decoration using ONLY finely ground powders will be allowed.
Note: White, black and other colours are allowed. Materials such as scraped coconut, flower petals, paint etc.
WILL NOT be allowed. Pre-drawn outline on white thermocol/plywood etc. shall be allowedas base sheet,
which the participants may bring along with them for the competition.
Size of the ‘Rangoli’ shall be 3x3 feet and the size of base-sheet shall be 4x4 ft. (Note: The base-sheet shall
be white in colour or painted white.)
Participants shall bring all other materials (Colour powder, design outline, etc.).
Participants’ Chest number will be attached to the Rangoli.
Duration of the competition- 45 Minutes.

Besides Shruti box or Tampura, number of accompanying instruments (optional) shall not exceed two.
Note: Shruthi box or Tampura can be either electronic or manual type.
Pre-programmed accompaniments (on electronic keyboard etc.) /materials/music/MIDI files/MP3
files/Karaoke WILL NOT be allowed.
Only the song rendition will be judged. Background music will not be a judgement criterion.Contestants

Duration of performance- maximum 6 minutes.
The contestants should sing a Kriti or Keerthana (Ragam, Keerthana, Niraval, Swaram). They should also
brief about the choice of their recital.
Either a Shruti box or Tampura will be allowed as an accompaniment. (Note: Shruthi box or Tampura used
can be either electronic or manual type)
Judging Criteria (Out of 50 Marks):
Tala & Shruti – 10; Raga & Bhava – 10; Manodharma & Improvisation – 10; Diction – 10; Presentation &Overall
Performance – 10
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC - SOLO
The category includes stringed, wind, electronic and percussion.
Pre-programmed material such as USB drives / Floppy drives/ music / MIDI files / MP3 files /Karaoke will
not be allowed.
Film and devotional songs are not allowed.
Duration of the performance- maximum 5 minutes.

WESTERN MUSIC (CHORAL SINGING) – GROUP
Team can consist of 5-8 members. Up to 3 participants are allowed to play asingle non-pre-programmed
background musical instrument.
Lyrics should be ONLY in English and shall be pertaining to the standards of school competitions.
Contestants shall keep in mind that it is the ‘vocals’ that are being judged, not the accompaniment/s.
The use of the automatic accompaniments on the keyboard is not allowed.
‘Heavy metal’ type musical instruments including drums shall not be used.
Pre-programmed material / music / MIDI files / MP3 etc. files is not permitted.
Contestants shall bring their own instruments. (Note: The organisers will provide a standard 5 octave
Keyboard, which the contestants may use.)
Duration of performance- maximum 5 minutes.

Formal rendition of national anthem takes 52 seconds.
Dress code: School Uniform
Only vocal will be considered. Karaoke music is not allowed.

SHORT MOVIE MAKING- GROUP

SHORT MOVIE MAKING - GROUP
Team Size: Maximum 5-8 students.
Theme: OPEN THEME
(Note: Only positive social themes are allowed. Controversial/religious/political themes should not be
presented.)
Standard: The film should conform to the standards of school competitions and respect the culture and
traditions of Oman and India.
Originality: The theme, frames and the music track should be original.
The movies that were sent for the earlier contests will be disqualified.
Language: The film shall be made ONLY in English language. (Note: If any dialogue is used in any other
language than English, the translation of the same in English should be shown as ‘sub-titles’ onthe same
frame.)
The entire work related to the film making shall be done by the students.
Don’t Involve adults/professionals in the making of the movie including acting.
Don’t use living or non-living object/s that reveal/s the identity of the participating team in the movie. (E.g.
Team’s name, House Colour, logo, uniform, badge, banner, podium, building, bus, book, etc.)
Date of Submission: Entries shall be sent to the House Master/House Mistress latest by 18 AUGUST 2022
before 10 a.m. The video should be in the format that can be played on Windows Media Player. Late entries
will not be entertained.
Each team shall submit the movie in a USB which shall contain details such as cast, crew, name of the
participating team etc.
Duration of the film- 8 to 10 minutes
The school shall NOT provide camera, software, computer, other gadgets etc. to the participants.
Judging Criteria (Out of 50 Marks):

AD MAKING
Team Size: Maximum 5-8 students.
Target: Create an advertisement of #Indian school Al Maabela #
Originality: The work should be original. (Should not be an ‘Ad’ already in use in the industry.)
The advertisements that were sent for the earlier contests will be disqualified.
The team can use video camera, animation software, etc. for the creation of their advertisement.
Care m u s t be taken not to project any unethical scenes. Footers such as ‘Statutory Warning’,‘Creative
Animation’ etc. if any needed, shall be given as in any standard advertisement.
Standard: The theme, dialogues, animations, costumes and make-up should be appropriate for school
competitions and respect the culture and traditions of Oman and India.
The school shall NOT provide cameras, software, computer, other gadgets etc. to the participants.
Each team should submit the advertisement in a DVD which should also contain details such as cast, crew,
name of the House etc.
Date of Submission: Entries shall be sent to House Master/House Mistress latest by 18 august 2022 before
10 a.m. in the form of a DVD in a suitable format that can be played on ‘Windows Media Player’. Late
entries will not be entertained.
Duration of the advertisement- 30 to 45 seconds.

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR ALL LITERARY EVENTS
1. Use of abusive language/foul language is strictly prohibited in all the events.
2. No dark humour content is permitted.
3. Participants are to stick to the time limit strictly.
4. No content should contradict the principles of Omani and Indian values, customs and norms.
5. No inappropriate comments should be made that could hurt any community’s sentiments pertaining to their
religious beliefs, race, gender, culture or heritage.
6. Decisions made by the judges will be considered final.
STAND UP COMEDY
Language: English (another language can be used for regionalism purpose only)
Theme: Open theme
The comedy used in the speech shall be original and personal.
Utmost care shall be taken not to use any kind of vulgarity / pun / anti-religion / anti-nationalism inthe speech.
The participant shall be immediately expelled from the competition in such a situation. No background music
is allowed.
Duration: maximum 3 minutes

ELOCUTION IN ENGLISH – SOLO
The topic for the elocution - Peace and Harmony for a Better Mankind
The content of the elocution shall be relevant to the topic.
Duration- Maximum 4 minutes. The time limit will be strictly enforced. A warning bell will be sounded prior
to the last 30 seconds.
The speaker is expected to memorize their speech, and is not allowed to read any part of the speech from
papers, notes, or cards.
The order of speaking / Chest No. will be decided by the teacher-in-charge through lot. Chest numbers will
be distributed on the day of the competition.
The decision of the judges will be considered final.
Judging Criteria (Out of 50 Marks):
Introduction of the topic-- 10; Exposition of the main theme (Conciseness & Clarity of message, Originality/
Points of interest, Use of Quotation)-- 10; Presentation (Mannerisms, Audience contact and voice modulation)—

ELOCUTION IN HINDI– SOLO

FLIP IN ENGLISH – SOLO
The participating students will be given the topic on the day of the competition, when the chest numbers are
distributed.
Each participant should speak for and against the topic. As soon as the first bell is sounded, the contestant
will have to speak for or against the topic. When the second bell is sounded, the contestant will have to
contradict his/her own statements without any delay. When the third bell is sounded, the contestant should
conclude the speech.
A participant should speak for minimum two minutes and maximum three minutes.
The order of speaking / Chest No. will be decided by the teacher-in-charge by drawing lots. Chest numbers
will be distributed on the day of the competition.
The decision of the judges will be considered final.
Reading from notes is not permitted.
Judgement Criteria: (50 marks)

ENGLISH SKIT GROUP
Each team can consist of 5-8 students.
Duration of the play including introduction-- 10 minutes.
Theme: open to the choice of the participants.
Only positive social themes can be presented. Religious/ political /controversial themes must be strictly
avoided.
The theme, costumes, dialogues and make up should be appropriate to the school level, and respecting the
culture and traditions of the Sultanate of Oman.
The team should introduce the play by stating its title and theme.
Appropriate backdrops, props and costume are recommended.
Judging Criteria (50 marks): Execution of theme & Climax-10; Dramatic skills – 10 ; Direction-10;
Coordination—10; Oveall Development -10
