A multi–talented man of God. Elder Ray was ordained in 2003 under Bish-
op Emeritus, Charles Blake Jr.. Ray is a community leader, Philanthropist,
and humanitarian. Andre is also the founder of the “Zero to Hero Program”,
providing spiritual guidance to the community, substance abuse programs,
family reunification, gang diversion, anger management, marital counsel-
ing and behavior management services. Helping the community to reach
its maximum potential in the pursuit of excellence. Andre Ray with his
deep rich baritone voice is also a radio personality who does commentary
and voice overs for radio station KJLH 102.3 FM. Andre is also a gifted mu-
ralist, actor, play wright, and musician. Andre Ray got his start in the music
industry as a staff writer for solar records, whose CEO and founder was the
late Great Dick Griffey. Andre went on to replace Jeffrey Osborne as the
lead vocalist for the Grammy Nominated R&B band L.T.D.. Andre’s vocals
are featured on L.T.D’s iconic ballad “April Love”, which is found on L.T.D’s
greatest hits CD. Andre along with his multitalented actress, song compos-
er wife, Myrta Ray have created a full-length feature movie, a line of chil-
dren’s books and brand-new music. A Spanish CD entitled “LLorando Es-
toy” produced by Myrta Ray. A Gospel CD entitled “Ebony Priest” a tradi-
tional Jazz CD, and a Retro Pop CD. All to be released later this year. An-
dre’s art career began as a student at Crenshaw High School. He was cho-
sen to paint the school mascot (face of a cougar) on all the bass drums for
the Crenshaw’s marching band. He also illustrated Crenshaw’s class of
1974 yearbook. Andre received a scholarship to study commercial art and
portraiture at the Otis Art Institute where he received his Bachelor of Fine
Arts. He then worked as the art instructor at the 74th street Elementary
School. Andre was commissioned to paint a mural on the wall in front of
the school that stretched for an entire city block in a period of one month
to the amazement of staff as well as students. He named the mural, “In
the Pursuit of Excellence”. Andre Ray believes that art classes are a neces-
sary part of any school curriculum and should not be diminished by state
budget cuts or the lack of funding. Art is a necessary vehicle for all stu-
dents to explore self-expression and to allow one to create beyond the
boundaries of the finite, imagination and not be limited by the senses. An-
dre Ray is a powerful force to be reckoned with and is honored to share his
paintings with the city of Pomona. You may contact Andre Ray through

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Through his unique and dynamic talents, Aziz, a self taught artist, established himself
as one of the premiere contemporary glass painters.
Aziz has traveled extensively throughout Africa, Europe, and South America, absorbing
the art and cultures of diverse environments. These experiences have greatly enhanced
the artist’s seemingly limitless repertoire and creative energy.
ABOUT THE WORK
Theissoise, reversed painting on glass, is a process that involves applying color to the
glass in the exact reverse process involved when painting on any other surface. The
process is a detailed and a painstaking method as each color is applied separately.
Brushes and various other tools are used to give continuity, contrast and texture to the
finished work. Rich in symbolism, the artist’s work captures the spirit and ambiance of
the universal experience.
Other Mediums
Color-graph is a unique art in and of itself. The artist has designed and developed a
printing press that enables him to produce original color graph print with multicolor in a
single run. The illustration is carved from various materials with an illustration board.
Due to the process of extreme pressure being applied in the making of the print, the
plate has very limited use. Each color graph is an original.
Additional mediums include, water color, mix media and oil.

Internationally acclaimed artist Charles Bibbs, whose work is featured in
museums, galleries, organizations, and homes of many collectors, dis-

his images, that is done in a combination of realistic and larger-than-life
interpretations of contemporary subjects that are ethnically rooted.

managed to work an eight-hour job and use his God-given talent in his

In 1984, she published first four limited edition lithographs, which premiered at the Af-
rican American Cultural Village in Los Angeles. Her father developed the Village to host
the African, Caribbean and Third World visitors to the 1984 Summer Olympics
Games. The geometric patterns, natural textures, and vibrant colors synonymous with
African cultures were portrayed in “The AACV Village Poster”, “Four Women Waiting”,
“Three Musicians” and “The Keeper” which were her first titled works in publication. By
using the silhouette in black to symbolize the pure essence of people, many felt a kin-
ship through her art.

ABOUT PVAA
A group of painters meeting in Washington Park, Pomona, held their first
exhibition in the Pomona City Library in 1948. This enthusiastic art club
became the POMONA VALLEY ART ASSOCIATION in 1952. Its constitution
and by-laws were adopted in January of that year. A move to the Pomona
Mall in 1960 was the first of many homes for the Association.
Through the loyal, dedicated efforts of its members and friends, it has con-
tinued to serve the community, increasing the understanding of and appre-
ciation for art and at the same time promoting and supporting many fine
artists and artisans.
The Association is proud of the fact that its membership through the years
has included outstanding award-winning artists who have achieved recog-
nition and acclaim in the art world, such as MILFORD ZORNES, BETTY
DAVENPORT FORD, DAVID W. SCOTT, & DON O’NEILL. As a member, you
become part of its future history.
POMONA VALLEY ART ASSOCIATION is a volunteer supported non-profit
organization dedicated to the stimulation of creative interest, education
and the enjoyment of art in all its various forms. Nominal yearly dues enti-
tles anyone to become a member of this old and honored organization.
