Kassie’s passing will leave a great void within our company as well as our hearts, which will not be easily filled by
any person but rather the memories and legacy that he left behind. He was a father, a friend and a colleague that
always had time to help where needed. Our hearts go out to his family who lost a pillar, who stood proud and tall.
We can miss and cry as much as we want, but the memories made together can never be taken away from us. He

Site Feature: Rustenburg Chrome Mine


The contract at Rustenburg Chrome Mine (RCM) commenced 11 November 2021. The

year saw the first HYBRID event.



The theme for 2022 is SUSTAINABLE MINING SUSTAINS US ALL. After a turbulent two years,
dealing with the economic challenges during the covid19 pandemic, sustainability in all
aspects of mining has become our driving force.


Social, economic, and natural factors have had a huge impact on our everyday lives at both a
local and a global level. In striving towards our 2022 theme, our commitment and dedication
towards our people, the communities we operate in, and the environment enjoys huge
attention.


Safety, Occupational Health, Environment and Community (HSEC) standards are still at the
top of the agenda and the annual HSEC Awards Ceremony for 2021 top achievers was again
the highlight of the day!

The COALSAFE event was held on the 5 of April at Emperors Palace. The event was
attended by our own Managing Director Support Services, Jacqualine Maimela. She also
represented our yellow badge in presenting the Zizwe sponsored award for the Social
Development category.


What also inspired her was the Coal for Hope initiative which started as a SACMA “Feed the
Miner” campaign to assist the Optimum Miners during the challenging time they went
through when the mine closed. Since then, they had numerous successful initiatives and in
2022, they call on donations and support to equal or better the funds raised previously.

The difference between Zizwe P2E, Zizwe Bulk Mech and

Zizwe Batlase






Zizwe P2E, Zizwe Bulk Mech and Zizwe Batlase all form part of the Zizwe Batlase
Zizwe family.
Zizwe Batlase is a joint venture between Zizwe Opencast Mining (Pty) Ltd and the Baphalane
community of North West province. The Baphalane community consists of eight villages
located in the North West Province. The area spans from the Bapong area in Brits, Segwaelane,
Zizwe P2E
including the Madikwe area, until all the way north of Thabazimbi. It is also the home of
approximately 90 000 Bakwena people. Zizwe Batlase, a Joint Venture Company, is 50%
P2E and Zizwe Opencast Mining have joined forces to offer turnkey mining solutions. This

second type of service that we provide, namely Re-mining. Re-mining is simply the transporting
of discard material back to the client’s plants for reprocessing.


The final type of service we provide is Train Loading, which is exactly that, simply loading the
coal on the trains, however, it is not as straightforward as it sounds. Over/ under- loaded train
wagons can create an imbalance which can result in dangerous situations. This operation

embodies the phrase “time is money.” Train handling time (THT) is one of the determining
factors for this operation’s success.
