This Road Show provided the opportunity for all Zizwe mentors and relevant personnel to meet the Y4Y candidates and re-iterate Zizwe’s commitment to the development of human capital, especially the youth of the various host communities surrounding Zizwe’s operational areas. Since this is the first time Zizwe Opencast Mining embarked on the Y4Y program, the Y4Y process and responsibilities were explained to all the parties by Skills Bureau (the entity contracted by Zizwe and responsible for the administration of the Y4Y project). The Y4Y overview presentation was followed by a question-and-answer session. The Zizwe mentors will ensure that the Y4Y candidates will gain valuable on-site work experience, whilst completing their Y4Y modules and curriculum. The successful completion of the Y4Y program will allow the candidates to build and expand their skill set, to assist them with their job-seeking ability for entering the job market. M a y 2 0 2 3 I - z i z w e N e w s l e t t e r 10 OUR COMMUNITY Our Accountability in the Workplace Training officially kicked off in April, presented by Chris Lombard. Accountability is the acceptance and obligation to carry out a responsibility. This includes being answerable for decisions, actions, and outcomes. It is an obligation and willingness to accept responsibility for one's actions. Accountability is beneficial in many ways, including personal benefits, as well as benefits for a team or Organisation. Accountability represents a form of trust, which is a fundamental trait for employees to have. The practice of accountability can involve power being transferred from one individual to another. In the workplace, being accountable means taking this power and owning it. Accountability in the Workplace Accountability in Action We want to recognize the efforts of Fannie Hlophe, Site Manager at Samancor Lannex for keeping his site in supreme condition as well as Jarom Bayanai, Mining Senior Supervisor, for the excellent condition of his bakkie. Tumela employees' efforts are acknowledged for being accountable and keeping Pit 37E clean. The Spitskop team has grasped the concept of accountability and daily we see employees getting out of their comfort zones and do what is necessary. Mr Tau (right) is always the 1st one to keep our workplace clean. Elvis and Nelson took time to install safety signages and Margaret, our Junior Safety Clerk, took the time to clean the ablution facilities. Mr Bethuel Tau (blasting assistance) displaying Accountability at Spitskop Site who created this walkway sign with stones for employees to see where they should walk. Mr Bethuel Tau, showcased Accountability yet again. He cleaned the test ramp which was especially noted during the DMR visit.
