Varsity Pep Squad

Cheer
Spartans Cheer,

Next to the athletes themselves the
Varsity Pep Squad can be credited
for bringing exuberant spirit to the
Neil Blaisdell Center this year.
The squad worked hard creating new
cheers to modify the traditional
style of cheerleading at Maryknoll.
Their continuous effort throughout
the games kept the enthusiastic fans
aroused and attentive.

i Everybody Cheer,

Everybody Listen...

The tradition of combining songleaders
and cheerleaders was changed this year,
creating a squad consisting entirely of
cheerleaders. This decision was made by

the members of previous squads. The
girls united in learning the basic

skills of cheerleading. They spent many
hours practicing hard, yet having fun at

the same time.

...T o What We're
Doing Over Here

This year Maryknoll's JV Pep Squad began
their kicks, splits, jumps, and prac
tices earlier than expected. The eight
members cheered at Pac-Five football
games as well as at basketball games.
Their routines displayed many hours of
hard work, producing synchronized cheers
for our sports programs.

The Maryknoll Student Body Senate worked
with committees, faculty, and divisions
in planning and organizing the many stu
dent activities of the year. Enthusias
tic, eager, spirited, and hard working
are just a few of the words that des
cribe these young leaders. Five seniors
and three underclassmen made up the
1976-77 Senate. They were advised by
the principal, Sr. Anne Callahan.

Hui Kokua is an organization of Mary-
knoll High School students who want to
get involved in their community. They

do this by helping the aged, needy,
and underprivileged. This year Hui
Kokua had several fund raising drives.
The money was used for such things as

UNICEF and the Cancer Society.

Service & Assembly Committees

Getting

the Act Together

The Service Committee provides techni
cal services necessary for Maryknoll's
extracurricular activities. They work
closely with the Assembly Committee to
bring more enjoyable events. They al
so help the Athletic Department to
film video tapes that are essential in
helping the football and basketball
teams evaluate their strategies.

From the Aquaintance Week festivities
and the pep rallies, to the various
masses here in school, the Assembly
Committee kept the student body in
formed as well as entertained. Under
the guidance of Mrs. Sandla, they
scheduled and arranged all of this
year's presentations.

The Spirit Committee is a group of ener

to organize some of Maryknoll’s enter

Aloha Week, Homecoming and the Ho'o Lau-

members plan and carry out each detail
to make their events full of life and
enthusiasm. Creativity and SPIRIT were
the ingredients which made this year a
very special one for all participants.

The Interschool Committee’s goal is
to exchange ideas and to promote

good-fellowship with other schools.
The interschool system provides an

opportunity to socialize with a wide
range of people in their own learn

a variety of schools around the

state and return the hospitality by
inviting these schools to visit

Maryknoll. Rap sessions are orga

of combining people and ideas.

The National Honor Society is a

to scholarship, National Honor
Society membership also requires
leadership, character, and commu

applied to a scholarship fund from
which two awards are made annual

members to work toward even higher
academic achievement.

Civil Air Patrol has long been a part of
the curriculum at Maryknoll and contin
ues to offer a variety of activities for
the cadets in the squadron. Aside from
flag duty and the Thursday morning
tromping on the parade grounds, most of
their activities took place off campus
-- such as glider flying at Dillingham
Field, competing in the Caplympics, and
hosting the annual Military Banquet.
The development of leadership qualities
is one of the goals of the cadet program
and strengthens the students' potential
to become a vital part of their school
and community.

Day after day the 1977 Ka Moe' Uhane
Yearbook staff hurriedly worked to
create the best annual possible.

With much patience and a lot of ef
fort, the blank pages were soon

transformed into the written memo
ries of Maryknoll High. Each page

was carefully planned out by the
different section heads and then
sent in for final approval. It then
went through the various stages of
writing, picture scheduling, cut
ting, and pasting to arrive at the
long awaited result. Our publish

Klingman, and advisor, Mr. Wallace
Inglis, provided much encouragement
and new ideas for our still growing

The Man/ Faces
of YOU

Some people think that even
if you could be inside the

mirror looking out at your
self, you still couldn't see

all the changes you go
through. Not a total and
complete change, mind you,
but little things-like the

way you feel. Sometimes
you're rational and some
times you're insane. One
moment you're on top of the
world...and the next thing
you know, life's the pits!
Well, that's the way it goes.
