Ever since I was young, my dream was to be a
professional football athlete. I've been playing football
since I was very young, and I knew that was what I
wanted to do. My greatest memory as a young boy was
going to the stadium with my father for the first time in
my life. I still remember how we shouted out when my
state football team scored a goal in that match. Many
football players have inspired me to be a footballer too.
A famous football player from Argentina, Lionel Messi,
once said, "You have to fight to achieve your dream.
You have to sacrifice and work hard for it. Once I heard
that quote, it locked into my mind forever. Since that
time, I have chosen to become a professional footballer
when I grow up. It has been my dream career since I was
5 years old. To become a professional footballer,
however, is not as simple as we thought because
football is a thought sport that requires a combination
of athleticism, aggression, and strategic
movement(Johnston 2016) . Other than that, football
also demands speed, strength, agility, and smarts as
well as a skill combination of physical and mental
preparation.
As we know, football is a popular sport and it becomes
the dream career of many children, but only a few get
to make it reality. Maybe other people think that
football is just a sport, but for me it can become a part
of someone's life. As Ronaldinho said, " I learned all
about life with a ball at my feet".
There are numerous reasons why I chose football as my
dream job. One of the reasons is that football is a team
sport that needs cooperation between the teammates.
Like the saying, "Talent wins games, but teamwork and
intelligence win championships." When we work in a
group, our communication skills can also be improved.
For instance, to score a goal, teammates need mutual
understanding of each other. By trusting and
understanding each other, the team will get the best
quality of gameplay. For me, it is a good feeling to be a
part of a team where I can work in a group. When
playing in a team, I need to support my teammates, and
we also need to help each other. So, to get the best
result in playing, the teammates need a positive
relationship with each other. Thus, a great football
team with the best players will exist.
Next, being a professional footballer has many
advantages and benefits. Some people prefer football
as their career because it is a well-paid sport. One of
the most common things people see is how many
professional football players become millionaires and
are so famous nowadays. We can see that famous
footballers like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and
Neymar Jr. are very rich and they live on easy street.
Hence, a lot of people are interested in football.
Furthermore, football also keeps the players mentally
and physically healthy and disciplined (Decathlon
2022). In this sport, players need to have stamina and
they are required to obey the rules. If they do not obey
the law, they will be punished. For example, if a player
injures another player, he will get a yellow card or red
card. The main reasons why I like this career are that I
can make new friends and develop my talent. Through
talking and discussing with my teammates, we can
strengthen our relationships. promotes teamwork and
sharing, which are also benefits of this career.
Moreover, this career also improves bone strength
because it always needs training. Thus, my bones will
be stronger and I can avoid bone illness.
However, from my point of view, this career really is not
suitable for me. As a non-athletic person, I don’t have
much stamina and this career needs a lot of stamina.
For example, during training season and matches.
Sometimes, I get tired so easily when I run, and because
of this, I think being a football player is really not
suitable for me. Apart from that, I also can’t give my full
commitment to only sports. If I really want to be a
professional footballer, I need to join a football
academy to be elected to a football team. As a result, I
must give my full commitment, including spending time
training on the field and possibly skipping classes.
Honestly, skipping school classes for football training is
not worth it for me because I need to study and get a
good result for my future. For me, football is not a
guaranteed job. For example, many football players
didn’t get their salaries when COVID-19 spread in 2020.
Many football matches were interrupted and cancelled.
Stadiums were closed during that time and many
football associations went bankrupt. Additionally, this
career also requires high dedication and courage, but
unfortunately, my parents do not encourage me in it.
From their point of view, they assume that I can’t afford
to be a professional football player.
As a conclusion, football is such a nice and good career
for people who have skills in it. Those who are good at
football must participate in a football academy to go
further in this career. People who really want to
succeed in a football career need a lot of patience
because this career also has a high risk. If they make a
mistake, maybe they do not have a job and they have a
hard life. They have to remember that a lot of
professional football players have also come from zero
to hero. They also must work hard to achieve their
dream because it is not easy to be a successful football
player. Many people tried, but only a few were able to
survive it. Their spirits also need to be eternal and
strong. As a beginner, a permanent stance is key to
being successful in anything we do. But I think this
career is not appropriate for me. I need to accept the
fact that I can’t be a professional footballer anymore
because I need to focus on my current career. Maybe I
will take up football as my hobby.
