DESCRIBE HOW HELPING AT HOME DEVELOPS YOUR CHARACTER

As we face through modernization and globalization, everything is developing in their own
way. We can see the evidence through structures of building, the uses of technology in this
period of time, and also our way of life. To survive in this challenging world, we should have
some great and significant qualities which we could get from many experiences and initiative.
The children must try to gain great values in themselves to ensure their viability as they carry
on with their life. Helping at home is one of the ways to enable development of practical
characters. This essay will describe how helping at home develops characters such as
kindness, responsible and flexible in oneself.

The most prominent character built through the action of helping at home is kindness.
According to Cambridge Dictionary, kindness is the quality of being a generous, helpful, and
caring about other people (Cambridge University Press 2021). Individuals especially
youngsters can learn to be helpful to their family as they help doing household chores. The
process of getting ask to help and then actually helping can nurture kindness in oneself.
Kindness is when they are willing to help lessen the burden of their parents through the action

of helping at home. For example, children help doing household
chores like drying and folding clothes, washing dishes, helping
mom in the kitchen, cleaning the house and helping siblings in
completing their tasks. This proves that helping at home will
familiarize us to be helpful to others and do favours to ones in
need. Parents must also be smart in encouraging kindness to
their children. Thus, after kids finished helping doing house
chores, parents should speak a word of appreciation to them.
As a result, children gain the rationality to be a kind person. It is important to have kindness
in oneself as it is one of the main values ones should have as humans are social beings. Being
a kind and helpful person to others will lead others to play their parts by giving helps to me in
the future. This is accurate with God’s commandment in the holy Quran from chapter 55 verse
60 “Is there any reward for good other than good?”.

A responsible person is also one of the positive effects of helping at home. As
ones get ask to help do house chores, they are likely to perfect the tasks because it is now
under their responsibility. For example, children take responsibility to cook for the family as
mother is too tired after working for a whole day. They will try their best to fulfil the tasks which
is cooking and serving meals for family at the expected dinner time. They have to start
preparing meals at 5 in the evening so their family able to have dinner on-time at 7 in the
evening. The task of cooking a meal for family indirectly instil responsibility in them as they
understand their responsibility of preparing dinner for family. Getting assign to do household
chores make ones become a responsible individual. This
development of character will benefit them a lot in the future
as lots of different works will be assign to them. As they
carry out task efficiently, it will further benefit them in
curricular achievement. For example, they get appointed as
leader for an association at school. With great sense of
responsible, they can complete any task given greatly which will leads to good grades for both
academic and curriculum aspects. From academic aspect, individuals understand their
responsibility to study for a better life in the future. Extra marks for co-curriculum achievement
will be an advantage for ones when they step into real world where they need to look for a job.
It can be a ticket to get a rewarding job as responsible is one of, if not the main character or
quality that interviewers seek for in hiring new worker.

Helping at home will also encourage development of flexibility of oneself. In this
context, cooperation between family members improves through the act of doing household
chores together as they have great flexibility. Being a flexible family member while helping
doing house chores means ones are open to do different things. For example, family having
gotong-royong to clean around their house. Children become flexible as we do not only do
one task but several different tasks while gotong-royong around the house. For example, we
clean the backyard by scooping grass, trimming, cutting and watering plants around the house

and so on. This show that by helping family do house
chores, ones are indirectly learning to understand their
role and also understand the importance of teamwork
while working as a team. Thus, they would not have any
difficulties working as a team in the future and this is
beneficial for them when they enter college or university
life later on. This means that ones can be flexible doing

different works for the team and ultimately smoothen the group’s progress of work. Also, a
flexible person can give better cooperation and will not face any problem adapting to a new

environment as ones can abide rules there without
causing any issue. Human beings are a social
species that relies on cooperation to survive and
thrive. Humans interact and communicate with
others as we live in this world. We can live in a
harmony community if cooperation between
everyone in our society is great. With great cooperation between neighbours, life in the future
can be carry out without much difficulty. This will make ones’ life in the future more pleasant
and better.

Finally, it may be conclude helping at home build characteristics such as kindness,
responsible and flexible which will be very helpful and beneficial in the future. Subsequently,
these actions of helping at home will hone and polish some useful skills for a better life. To
gain its benefits, ones should try to help at home as much as they can. As youth have great
qualities, they can lead a successful life and further create an excellent nation in the world.
