ACTION: REVIEW WITH TEAM
At Umpqua, we’re all better-makers, and that means we push ourselves to
be just a little bit better. We don’t settle for the status quo, but ask, “Did I
give this my all?” And if not, we push just a little bit harder. Today, review
the Umpqua Five with your team.

Call to Action: Let’s Connect!
ACTION: SHARE WITH TEAM
The Connect Volunteer Network provides associates with paid time off to

development programs. Today, let’s encourage all associates to commit to
their next Connect volunteer opportunity.

ACTION: CELEBRATE WITH TEAM
Today is a Jeans for a Change day. Treat your team to a pizza lunch.

Friday, November 6th

Motivational Moment: UMPQ”YOU”A
ACTION: COMPLETE WITH TEAM

Title: UMPQ”YOU”A
Materials/Preparations Needed: Six sheets of paper laid out in separate areas of the room with
markers for each. For large groups (20-30) six separate easels (or poster paper) attached to the walls
around the room. Write one of the following 6 letters (including the word, “YOU”) on each paper:
UMPQ”YOU”A. You will also need a timer or some way to move the group through the activity.
Facilitator Introduction: Umpqua’s culture is driven by associates like you who have a passion for
people and are empowered to make a difference for our customers, our communities and each other.
Each of us brings unique talents, ideas and viewpoints that result in the bank’s overall success.
Activity: For large groups, count off by 6 to form teams and place the teams in front of each respective
easel. For small groups, have each person stand in front of a sheet of paper (or easel). When the time
begins, associates will approach the paper and write one word that starts with the corresponding letter
on the paper that describes Umpqua or their experience at Umpqua; i.e., easel #1 words begin with U;
#2 words begin with M, etc.

*For #5, associates will write a descriptive adjective about themselves. Call time (probably 1 minute or
less for small groups) and ask the participants to move to the next sheet of paper/easel. Repeat until
everyone has had a chance to write on all the paper/easels.
*For a takeaway after the Motivational Moment, create a word cloud using the words written on the
sheets and send it out to the entire group via email. If you don’t know how to create a word cloud,
please contact Cultural Enhancement.
Facilitator Summary: This Motivational Moment brings together our individual uniqueness and shows
that together – We are Umpqua.

Call to Action: Let’s Connect!
ACTION: SHARE WITH TEAM

The Connect Volunteer Network is Umpqua’s industry-leading paid time off volunteer program.
Associates are given paid time off to volunteer at youth focused organizations, schools and with
community development programs.
Need inspiration? As a team, visit the Community Responsibility Insider pages to learn about some of
the key issues we focus on as a company, like the connection between childhood hunger and
education, or the importance of summertime learning. We even provide some direct ways to get
involved!
Already have something in mind? Here’s how to determine if the organization you’d like to
volunteer with is Connect-eligible:
(You should be able to answer YES to the following five questions.)
1. Does the volunteer time specifically benefit youth or low/moderate income individuals?
2. Is the organization a non-profit/public organization?
3. Is the capacity in which you’ll be volunteering non-political and non-religious?
4. Do the beneficiaries of the volunteer time live within the general footprint of Umpqua

Bank (where associates live and work)?
5. Are the opportunities during your regular work hours?
Call to Action: Encourage each member of your team to commit to his or her next Connect activity and
schedule it in the time today by knowing the focus areas, visiting the Connect site and talking with peers
about their volunteer efforts.

program each quarter, and participation is voluntary.
There are lots of other ways to engage and make an impact on the community! Check out Community
Responsibility’s Insider pages to learn about Connect, the Community Contributions team, Associate
Giving and the available match, our current cause highlight, Learn to Earn, CRA volunteer opportunities
and much more!
Now, go buy pizza for your team and enjoy the time together. Charge your expenses to the new
expense type Culture Boost in Concur. If you have any questions regarding expense reporting for the
Culture Boost, contact Nancy Harris, Cultural Enhancement, 509-227-6693.
