Edward Tulane Book Club Project

Edward Tulane Book Club Project

The Miraculous Journey of
Edward Tulane Book Club

By Kate DiCamillo

Chapter 1 Retell

In Chapter 1, we are introduced to our main character Edward. Edward is a very
conceited china rabbit. Edward’s owner is a young girl named Abilene. Abilene
loves to make sure Edward looks nice.

Chapter 2 Retell

In Chapter 2, Edward is still the conceited bunny in Chapter 1. During this
chapter, the maid vacuums him to clean him. Edward does not like this. Abilene
finds out and the maid is later fired.

Chapter 3 Retell

In Chapter 3, we are introduced to someone very important. Pellegrina. She
is Abilene’s grandmother. During dinner time, the family discussed going on
vacation and they were going to bring Edward along. They were going on a ship
called Queen Mary. While they were discussing the vacation, Pellegrina was
looking at Edward “like a hawk and it’s prey”. This made me infer that she was
going to do something bad to him.

Chapter 4 Retell

Chapter 4 starts by Pellegrina telling the story about the princess, witch, and
warthog. Since Edward is so conceited, he barely listens or cares about the story.
He totally misses the moral of the story. He only worries about how the princess
became a warthog. At the end of this chapter Pellegrina tucks him in, but Edward
nor me trust her.

Theme:

*Material things can come and go.
*If you are ugly on the inside, you are ugly on the outside.

Symbolism:

*Watch-(tell time)-time was not on Edward’s side. He lost his “good” life along with
the watch

*Ears(hear)-once Edward was “down”, he learned the importance of
listening/caring for others.
