powerful and appropriate sermon inspiring congregants to see
the project through. “We love it, there is soo much space to
run around here,” remarked a few Adventurers as they chased
each other around during lunch time. “I love the open land and
its out-of-the-city feel .... no robots or constant cars hooting. It
feels like our real home,” said Mrs Mthembo.
“This move is to inspire the church members with the amount
of work done and yet still raise awareness on the work that lies
ahead,” said Institutuional Development departmental leader,
Mr Larry Tsikada. “It is one thing to announce to church mem-
bers that the church has bought a stand and it is another to
have them see and worship in it. They get to own the vision
once they go through such an experience,” he commented. He
and his team spearheaded the Sabbath including all the dife-
rent department leaders. Everyone pitched together to make
the day a possibility. Deacons and AMO organised the setting
up of chairs and the tent while the Deaconesses whipped up a
special meal in celebration of this remarkable day.
Although the church was a bit skeptical on the reception by the
neighbouring farms, reports afterwards showed that there was
no complaints or disturbance to the community. We continue
to pray for peace and progress and look forward to the day
when we officially reach our advent hope of moving to Advent
Hope Church residency.

YOUTH FEATURE

2019

GYD Acts of kindness

lobal Youth Day has always been
marked with great excitement at
Advent Hope as the church shuts
its doors and goes into the com-
munity. Clad in the signature black
GYD tshirts the church members meet
only for Sabbath school then disperse in
a few representative groups to visit spe-
cific targeted organisations in the North-
riding areas. AMO, Dorcas, Women Min-
istries, Youth, Pathfinders, Adventurers
and literally all departments come to-
gether to take part in this special day.
This year six different organisations
were visited adding two new venues
to the traditional list. In previous years
the church normally visits SANCA Reha-
bilitation Centre, Lighthouse Children’s
Home, Cheshire Home of the disabled
and Kyasands Community. This year the
local Firestation and Douglasdale police
station were added to the list. The en-
tering wedge was a need to thank these
organisations for the service they give
to the Northriding community. Grocer-
ies, clothing, food as well as religious
key rings for the police station and fire
department were given as gifts to signify

our thanks. Devotions were held there and
our music groups (True Foundation and
Luyando) rendered special songs to cheer
up the residents and workers in the differ-
ent organisations.
The church members were then given a
chance to interact with the hosts and form
contacts. One particular host stood out in
the name of Kirsten Gillies (62) at Cheshire
home of the disabled. Ever so bright and
cheery Kirsten started preaching to the
church members stating how grateful she
was for life despite having been confined
to a wheel chair for the past 30 years. “I
was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 30
years ago after I fell terribly sick on my
honeymoon. My husband brought me
here with a promise to visit every week-
end but he got married after about a year,”
she states in a matter of fact way.
Without a hint of pain in her voice she
mentions that she never had any children
since she was diagnosed early on in her
marriage and never remarried. That said
she has a clear love for them that can be
seen by anyone. Her face would light up
more when she saw the Adventurers and
she kept kissing the hand of any child that
would pass close enough. “These little
ones are so precious,” she kept saying
over and over again. “I am so grateful to
see any child and I am so grateful for life!”
Her words came as water to thirsty souls
reminding us to be grateful for all .we are
and have. “Truly inspirational,” remarked
the few church members that got chance
to talk to her. She truly was a light beaming
bright in a dark home with many disabled.
In the afternoon, True Foundation singing
group ministered in music at the Douglas-
dale Police Station where the youth hand-
ed over donations of fruits, vegetables and
key rings that would serve as a constant
reminder of the church’s visit. The visit
was successful and the donations were
received cheerfully. The rest of the church
was at Kyasands distributing food, clothing
and mingling with the community as was
done in previous years. We keep praying
for the work to keep expanding to reach
more and more in our community.

COMMUNITY SERVICES

Soup kitchen

MAdiKffeIrNenGce a

he Advent Hope Community Services Department in conjuction
with the Women Ministries Department have recently instituted
a drive to feed some hungry job-seekers in an effort to reach
them for the Lord. Started about a month ago the soup kitchen
runs every Thursday just before noon along Hyperion and Pritchard
Street. “At first we used to drive around looking for destitute people like
those people who search through garbage bins for recyclable materials.
We would then stop the car and give prepackaged food. We later moved
to the Hyperion Drive location because we found lots of job seekers
looking mainly for manual jobs in that area. Currently we distribute 35
pre-packed meals and we pray with them before giving them a meal.”
She added that all are invited to join in this initiative through donations
in cash and groceries , or taking part in cooking and serving as well as
in praying for this project which they hope will be an entering wedge
for the spreading of the gospel. The community has been greatly ser-
viced and the recipients keep expressing how they really appreciate the
meals they get from the soup kitchen. Another Advent Hope family (Mr
and Mrs Ntuli and her 2 children) has also been inspired to start a soup
kitchen in their neighbourhood of Welterweldrern Park. We wish all
great success to the glory of the Most High God.

Keep running

Hebrews 12 vs 1 and 2

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a
cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin
which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the
race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and
[b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at

the right hand of the throne of God.”

2018. In short, it was a 14 year journey and Wellness-
way Healthshop officially opened its doors on the 15th
of October 2018. We give thanks to God for this op-
portunity to serve Him.
When and how did you get this particular loca-
tion?
We had been praying and looking for a while until we
found this location being advertised in June 2018. We
decided to then go for it.
Describe your product range for us?
We sell a wide range of whole foods and health prod-

ucts and services. They include non-GMO and organ-
ic wholefoods, superfoods, detox products, herbal
remedies, plant-based milks, detox products, dietary
supplements, vegetarian meat and substitutes, vegan
frozen meals/foods, organic culinary herbs, skin, hair
and body products and many more.

How has this served the community?
It has opened more affordable options for individu-
als looking for healthy options. It has brought a good
variety of health products to their doorstep. We have
also obtained an opportunity to share the health mes-
sage and raise awareness as we interact with people
searching for natural health solutions.

What blessings can you say you have experienced from running
the shop?
The experience of meeting new friends and getting to know them as
well as assisting them to find solutions to their health needs has been
such a blessing. Even having an opportunity to simply listen to them
and interact with them has been such a joy to us.
What has been your major challenge?
As with every venture we’ve met with a few challenges in this new
endevour which include the following:
-Going through a learning curve of understanding the exact needs of
our clients and our community, since there is a world of options to
choose from.
- Striving to meet our client base needs in the most affordable manner
and timeously.
- Being a young and small enterprise, brand development takes a long
time and a lot of energy and effort
How has the gospel been spread?
We have had an opportunity to encourage some of our clients to con-
sider trying a plant-based diet, get plenty of rest, exercise, drink lots
of water, avoid processed foods and foods that contain additives and
preservatives and a lot more on the health message.
Do you offer other services besides selling health products?
Yes we have other services that we offer ie.
Vegetarian/ vegan cooking classes
Transitional dietary counselling
Lifestyle counselling programes for individuals and groups
Water purification device sale and installation (home-based device)
Hyperbaric oxygen treament referal
What are your future plans for the health industry?
We are currently focusing on serving the health needs of our commu-
nity and grow into a well-established brand. We desire to expand our
product -mix and services to include new customer friendly concepts
to the Glory of God.
What would you recommend for those wanting to establish a
health shop?
It will be good for one to identify an area of interest and ability and
seek an opportunity to share your passion with family and friends or
the community. Believeing in the abilities or gifts that God has be-
stowed upon us enables us to TRY. It always calls for sacrifice and trust
in God especially when prospects do not look inviting or favorable.
FINALLY REMEMBER - GOD DESIRES THAT OUR HEALTH IS GOOD!
THUS, WE WISH THAT YOU -: “LET YOUR FOOD BE YOUR MEDICINE …”

RECIPES

nutmilkMake your own
ne of the foods that people tend to miss when
they go on a plant-based diet is milk. It is so
convinient for cereals, teas, baking, the list goes
on. Many worry how they will replace it without
having to buy the super-expensive alternatives in
health shops. The easiest solution? Make your own
milk using various nuts or seeds!!
The method is really the same for most nuts and
sees. All you need is water, a blender and a cup of
nuts. Using the example of almond milk, here’s how
it’s done…
1. Soak one cup of almonds – around 200g – in water
for 8 to 12 hours, or overnight
2. Rinse the almonds and peel the skins off
3. Tip them into a blender, add 4 cups of water then
blitz for a few minutes until smooth
4. Secure a muslin cloth over a bowl and pour the
almond mixture over it.
5. Bunch up the cloth and squeeze the milk out, leav-
ing the pulp in the muslin (you can use the leftover
pulp to make almond flour – simply dry it out, whiz it
up again and store in a jar until needed)
Filter the milk into an airtight bottle and pop it in the
fridge where it’ll last for a good 3 to 4 days.
And there you have it! Remember that almond and
many other nut milks naturally separate – this is
nothing to worry about, just give them a good shake
before you use them. Here are a few more ideas of
other nuts you can use. The only thing that
changes is the soaking time:
Almonds: 8 to 12 hours
Hazelnuts: 8 hours
Macadamias: 8 hours
Peanuts: 8 hours
Pine nuts: 8 hours
Pecans: 4 to 6 hours
Walnuts: 4 hours
Cashews: 2 hours
Pistachios: no soaking needed
Brazil nuts: no soaking needed

Stretching makes up an important
part of an exercise routine. How-
ever, not all people stretch before
exercise, so you may be wonder-
ing if stretching is important.
Here’s the reasons why it’s impor-
tant to stretch before and after a
workout.
The purpose of warming up is to
prepare mentally and physically
for your chosen activity. A typi-
cal warm up will take at least 10
minutes and involve light aerobic
movements and some dynamic
stretching that mimics the move-
ments of the activity you’re about
to perform.
When it comes to pre-workout
stretching, stretching before a
workout helps your body to be-
come more pliable, which de-

you’re already in good shape. You should do warm your workout, after your warm up. The main muscles
up exercises, though, to still get some blood flow groups used during the session are the ones that need
