Brown vs. Board of Education

Brown vs. Board of Education

Brown vs. Board of
Education Exibit

Topeka Kansas, 1954
By: Matty S.

The Injustice

Desegregate- to stop racial separation in schools and
other public facilities

Injustice- a violation of the rights of others; an unfair act

The injustice of this story is how a girl couldn’t go to a Linda Brown standing in front of the
public school very close to her house because of her school she was never allowed to go
race. This girls name was Linda Brown. Linda was a to
normal child who was put in a very unfair situation. The
school board said numerous times how colored people
couldn’t attend their school. Linda, her father, and the
thirteen other African American parents knew how wrong
this was and they wanted to take action. They challenged
the Separate but equal law at this time. Just a little while
later they were in a case at the Supreme Court trying to
desegregate the schools around the county.

Motivations and Taking a Stand

Milestone- an important event “shows Linda Brown Smith. Smith was a third grader
when her father started a class-action suit in Kansas in

it wasn’t right. These actions made a huge difference
throughout the civil rights movement. This happened
in 1954 before a lot of the main acts such as Emmett
Till, Rosa Parks, The Montgomery Bus Boycotts, and
Little Rock 9. These acts by Linda and Oliver inspired
many others to join in and they followed them by
trying to do what was right. The legacy of the Brown
family is very important and should live on forever.
There actions became a milestone. They changed
schools around the country for the better.

“To separate them from others of similar age and qualifications

solely because of their race generates a feeling of inferiority”

Segregation- the separation of a race, class, or
ethnicity group from the rest of society

The judge, Earl Warren told Oliver there would be Board of Education

Primary Source Artifact

This pictures shows a group of people
marching for what was right. The Artifact is
the signs these men and women were
holding. These represent the people’s
feelings and how they felt about the
segregation in the schools. The signs are all
over the place and most of them say the
same things, “We March for Integrated
Schools Now!” This shows how no one liked
what was going on and everyone wanted a
change.

Secondary Source Artifact

This is a book about the Brown vs. Board of
Education and was written by James Patterson.
This is a secondary source because it was
written a while after this event happened. Also,
the book was made by Patterson using Primary
Sources to make it. This connects the my topic,
Brown vs. Board of Education because it was
written for readers to learn more about the
topic.
