The children’s crusade

The story and injustice

The story of the children’s crusade is that
Birmingham, Alabama was the most segregated
town. Segregation is the separation of a race, class,
or ethnic group from the rest of the society.
Children from all over Birmingham went to march
with Martin Luther king jr. for equal rights for
African- American people and white people to be
equal. The children got sprayed with hoses and
German shepherds were attacking the children yet
they kept singing and protesting. This march made
the laws change about segregation. The injustice
here is that the children were arrested and tortured
by the policeman. Injustice is a violation of the
rights of others or an unfair act. It was a huge
milestone in the civil rights movement . A
milestone is an important event and civil rights is
basic rights that every citizen has under the laws of
the government.

The legacy of the
group

The legacy of the group is that
children weren’t afraid to skip
school and possibly get in
trouble they just wanted their
voice to be heard. This
impacted history because there
were children their who knew
that it was unfair and they
know what’s going on and that
they matter too. The children’s
crusade was very important
time and should be
remembered forever.

What motivated

people

What motivated people to take action was that
people knew that the Jim Crow laws were unfair
and so did children. Jim Crow laws is laws
common in the south which required African-
American people to use separate public
facilities. The wanted to be treated equally and
didn’t want segregation anymore. Here’s a
quote from one of the children that participated
in the children’s crusade. “We were told in one
of the mass meetings that the day would come
when we could really do something about of
these inequalities.” This shows that she really
motivated by the inequities and that she knew
this was unfair.

This is a picture of children getting hit by fire hoses
and how unfair it was also some children were
getting arrested in this picture

How their actions
made a difference

Their actions made a
difference in the civil rights
movement because it
showed how the children felt
the difference and
inequalities. It also shows
how much people are
effected by segregation and
how unfair it is.

Their actions inspired
others to take a stand
to what they believe is
right and not just be
okay with unfairness.

Secondary source

This picture is about children getting hit by the fire
hoses the policeman and how bad it was back in the
south. This connects to my topic because it shows how
hurt the children were

How can one person make a
difference

One person can make a
difference by standing up
and taking action to what
they believe is right . The
children’s crusade made a
difference because after
the fact the laws changed
and it was a great impact
in society in Birmingham.
