Activity 1 Read the text below and answer the questions that follow. For each question, circle the correct answer A, B or C. Gibbons Gibbons are mammals that can be found in Malaysia. Although they look similar to monkeys, they are actually apes like gorillas and orangutans. There are five species of gibbons in Malaysia: the Lar gibbon, Agile gibbon and Siamang in Peninsular Malaysia, and Muller’s gibbon and Abbott’s grey gibbon in East Malaysia. Gibbons live in rainforests and spend most of their lives in trees. Gibbons mostly eat fruit, but they can also eat twigs, leaves, insects, flowers and sometimes bird eggs. They have long hands and feet. Their wrists are also very flexible. This makes it easier for them to climb trees quickly. Gibbons are known for being able to sing. They sing to defend their territory and to attract mates. The Siamangs have a special throat pouch that inflates when they sing, which is why they have very loud singing calls. All species of gibbons in Malaysia are endangered. They are threatened by the logging of rainforests, which causes them to lose their homes and food sources. Besides that, hunters catch young gibbons to sell them as pets. similar: 相似的 flexible: 柔韧的 defend: 保护 territory: 领地 mates: 配偶 inflates: 膨胀 1. Which gibbon species is there in East Malaysia?
