An expert’s recommendation Dinosaurs, an extinct group of prehistoric reptiles, have been children’s favourite for the past 30-40 years. They are the best companions of several generations during childhood, be it comics, science books or horrifying skeletons of giant dinosaurs. Even today, as they grow up under the influence of dinosaur culture, children will occasionally recall their childhood memories by reading books about dinosaurs. No wonder dinosaurs become the protagonists of Hollywood’s bestselling films. They become an embodiment of life’s beauty. Many people wish to find out the strong connection between lost lives and real inspiration from them. I used to be an author and compiled popular science books about dinosaurs. I would put myself into the readers’ shoes and think what kind of dinosaur story they like because I know that hardcore dinosaur fans have different reading perspectives and taste compared to normal people. The images of dinosaurs are considered alive to them. You can feel their zeal and excitement when they talk about dinosaurs. This might be the reason why the dinosaur culture still exists until now. Dinosaurs have turned into a culture that is full of mysteries. This culture did not disappear because of the extinction of dinosaurs. Rather, it is developed rapidly in various forms and deeply rooted in our souls. A few years ago, the tower defence game Plants vs. Zombies was popular around the world and many game-related products became hot selling items in the market. I thought, why don't we bring the Plants and dinosaurs together to create interesting and vivid stories about dinosaur kingdoms? I’m sure this will be an eye opener for dinosaur fans. I never expect that this idea has become a reality now. Among many ideas and topics, China Children’s Press and Publication Group has selected some characters from Plants vs. Zombies and started a wonderful battle against the dinosaurs in the form of comic. Dear children, do you still remember those lively and funny
characters from that game? Bonk Choy – a kung fu master from Guangdong, China who is proficient in Eastern and Western boxing skills. He is practising kung fu, learning new skills or training apprentices all over the world now. Some of his apprentices are even more famous than him. Peashooter – “You want to know what success tastes like?” He sips his hot tea and says, “Sorry, I can’t tell you about that now. I’m busy arranging my business contracts. Oh, please take care of my jacket!” Cherry Bomb – Forming a band has always been the Cherry brothers’ dream. “We want to know every explosive rhythm. We subvert music, entertain our fans, rock the stage and destroy the Zombies of course! Oh, don't forget to buy our albums next year!” The Plants connect the dinosaur world to the real world. They will bring children back to the Mesozoic to understand the world of ancient life. This idea not only serves as a large-scale trial and thrilling challenge but also brings warmth to the icy dinosaur world. This allows children to understand the dinosaurs better. Dinosaur stories are eternal and endless. The sudden disappearance of dinosaurs from Earth after their domination remains in our thoughts and draws our attention to the historical eras that are long gone. We might discover new things if we look at the dinosaurs from a different perspective. Children, I hope you will be inspired by your knowledge on dinosaurs to explore the world of science further.
