Imperative sentences
1. Imperative sentences are used to give instructions or advice. They usually begin with

a verb.
• Fasten your seatbelt.
• Look both ways before crossing the road.
2. We make negative imperative sentences by adding the word ‘don’t’ in front of the
verb.
• Don’t stick your head out of the window.
• Don’t drive recklessly.

Prepositions ‘by’ and ‘on’
1. We can use the prepositions ‘by’ and ‘on’ to talk about ways of travelling.
2. We use by + means of transport and on + foot.

• Mr Lee went to China by plane.
• I go to the cinema by bus.
• They went to the park on foot.

Gerunds
1. A gerund is a verb that acts as a noun in a sentence.
2. A gerund is always formed by adding ‘-ing’ to a verb.

• Riding in a gondola is relaxing.

Wh- Questions

1. Wh- questions are used to ask questions.
2. We use ‘how’ to ask about the manner or way something is done.
