PHILOSOPHY AND CURRENT ISSUES

BIPW1132 SEMESTER I SESI 2021/2022

1. LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course, students should be able to;
i. Explain current issues based on philosophy, National Education Philosophy (NEP) and RukunNegara

(National Principles). KKM 4 (C3)
ii. Elaborate on current issues by significant schools of thought in different philosophical streams. KKM 3B (A2)
iii. Analyze current issues through the perspective of comparative philosophy as a basis toestablish

the inter-cultural dialogue. KKM 4 (A3)

2.0 SYNOPSIS

This course covers the relation between the field of philosophy and the National Education Philosophy as
well as Rukun Negara. This course aims to enable students to understand thefield of philosophy as a tool
to harmonize cultures of thinking about life through the arts and ways of thinking as well as through the
concepts of insan (Arabic for ‘human’). The main topicsin philosophy; epistemology, metaphysics and ethics,
are discussed in the context of current issues. Emphasis is given to philosophy as a basis for inter-cultural
dialogue and to foster common values. Discussions on current issues are made through a comparative
perspectivebetween philosophy, science and civilization. At the end of this course, students will be able
to see the disciplines of knowledge as a comprehensive body of knowledge and related to each other.
