JINDAL STEEL & POWER
BARBIL PELLETISATION FACILITY

Jindal Steel and Power Limited operates India’s largest Pelletisation
Complex at Barbil, Odisha. Amongst the most advanced Pelletisation
plants worldover, the unit has a capacity to produce 9 Million Tonnes
of Pellets annually for different pellet grades. Pellets are environment
friendly iron ore concentrates best-suited for steelmaking. A 9 million
tonne Pellet Plant can cater to the raw material requirement of
producing 6 million tonnes of Steel.

JSPL’s 9 MTPA Pellet Plant is segmented into two units of 4.5 MTPA
each. The Pellet Plant 1, commissioned in December 2009, produces
Pellets using the Dry Grinding Process that harnesses recuperation
type of straight grate technology. The Pellet Plant 2, commissioned
in April 2014, has a unique mix of Dry & Wet Grinding Process. This
unique process edge enables customization of Pellet produce for both
DRI Plants as well as Blast Furnaces.

The Pellet Plant 2 also has the distinction of being the World’s Fastest
Pellet Plant Project to go operational in a short span of 23 months.
Deploying the most advanced Pelletisation technology, JSPL Barbil
complex stands apart by offering:

• Highest Flexibility: Pellets customized as per customer
requirement
• Zero Solid and Liquid Waste: Creating new benchmarks in
environment friendliness
• World Class Rapid Loading System: Loads a Rake (Goods Train)
within one hour

Pellets – Building Blocks of Steel, are iron ore concentrates compressed,
molded and bound in round spherical balls. On one hand, Pellets
when used as raw material supports liquid steel faster than iron ore
fines. On the other hand Pellets are environment friendly after their
solidification from iron ore fines.
