APYLC 2022: FORGING BONDS
AND AMPLIFYING VOICES
BY GRISELDA GAVRIELLA NATHANIE, 9H
I was part of the Sports and Arts group where our group won the best group
award; though, the friends I made throughout the event were far more
precious than the award. Despite the time differences, my group had set up
zoom calls outside of the event hours to collaborate on our presentations,
allowing us to optimize our work, and more importantly, create meaningful
bonds. It was also very exciting to be able to learn about others’ cultures,
and in turn, introduce Indonesia’s culture to others. Furthermore, APYLC
2022 allowed me to broaden my understanding of sports and its branches,
teaching me to view things from different perspectives, and, amplified my
confidence to voice opinions. It was most definitely an eye-opening
experience.
E-BEEMUN MUSINGS
BY JASMINE NATALIE (10A) AND
MATEO RAFE WINARTA(10J)
"Be prepared for the unexpected." When I hear about Crisis Councils, those are the three words
that spring to me. I had always imagined that Crisis Councils would be the most stressful and
frightening experience a delegate could have, yet it turned out to be my favorite committee
sessions thus far. I wasn't shaking for the first time in my MUN year, and I believe it's because
the chairs and backroom did a fantastic job of making the conference a welcoming first
experience for most of us.
It was certainly not easy balancing the never-ending Crisis updates, needing to comprehend
what directives are, and coming up with speeches on the spur of the moment, but the
individuals I met and the memories I made in those two days made it all worthwhile.
- Jasmine Natalie
Dredging up an age-old issue, this year's E-BEEMUN's World Health Organization Committee
focuses on HIV/AIDS, specifically improving access to treatment of it. Once more greeted by
the familiar screens of zoom, the delegates never fail to impress the chairs. Representing
nations worldwide, these delegates discuss, negotiate, and work together to try to make
HIV/AIDS treatment accessible to all.
With a heated argument kicking off the first committee session, our expectations for the
subsequent sessions were set high. Delegates were eager to listen to each other's solutions,
and nations began to group up. The pace of the council fluctuated at times, delegates feeling
the rush as they hurried to submit their working papers and draft resolutions as fast as they
could, while at other times the council felt peaceful, as delegates wait for their turn to speak.
As one of the co-chairs, I must admit that there were many surprises along the road. When we
stated that two draft resolutions would be able to pass, delegates conspired to vote for each
other, as it would benefit to both parties. Of course, we had to put a stop to it and decided to
only allow the passing of one. The tension of the council was palpable when both resolutions
failed, but delegates were able to persuade their opponent's to alter their views following a
council discussion and managed to pass one draft resolution. Overall, we believe that this
whole council was a success, and everyone had a great experience.

Many thanks to other people who are involved in this event.
There were many invaluable insights that students can gain from the speakers. For example, Mr.
Rudy Winarto, who is a Binusian parent, highlighted the importance of knowing self, including
strengths and weaknesses, before making education and career related decisions. Another one
is from Ms. Pingkan Belinda Rumondor, a lecturer in Binus University, who reminded the students
to trust the process, continuously improve their knowledge and skills, and build their personal
brand. From Mr. Ardhy Nugrahanto, a prominent figure in health industry, students learned to
stay humble, keep learning from people around them, apply what they learn, and take actions
to create changes in the world. Lastly, Ms. Jessica Giovani, one of the two alumni who shared
their experiences in the event, encouraged her juniors to balance their study/work and social
life and find new hobbies to sharpen their creativity and get inspiration.
We do hope that participants of the event can understand more about factors to take into
consideration in choosing a career pathway. See you in Career Exploration Days 2023!
SUNSETS: ENDINGS AND BEGINNINGS
BY SABRINA CALYA MALVINAS, 8B
A Tribute to the Grade 12s was an assembly dedicated to all our hardworking 12th
graders this academic year. During this assembly, we had performances from the choir
and orchestra club, in which they wonderfully carried out songs such as “Come so far
(Got so far to go)” and “Stand by Me.” Not only that, but inspirational speeches were
presented to the students by BINUS Serpong’s very own MSHS principal, Ms Sherrierose
Garcia Gonzales, and a parent representative, Ms Chandra Dewi.
Furthermore, videos devoted to the grade 12 students were shown. These videos
consisted of heartwarming messages from their parents, friends, siblings, and even
teachers. Lastly, to cap off the delightful assembly, the students were able to spend 30
special minutes with their family members in breakout rooms. By the end of the
afternoon, the faces of smiling parents and students filled the screen as a photo session
was held. The theme for this event was sunsets, which represent endings, but also new
beginnings, just like how our beloved Grade 12 students would be ending their school
years and unfolding new experiences as a multitude of challenges await.

INDONESIAN CULTURAL CELEBRATION:
THE SECRET WORLD OF SPICES
BY ALTHAF KEANENDRA DJAJAPRAWIRA, 9D
First of all, I think that spices are crucial for Indonesia because spices have been around
for a long time and that spices are important trade material between Indonesia and
foreign countries from the past until today. The Indonesian Cultural Celebration week is
held annually and managed by the Binus School Serpong Indonesian Language
Department. In this year’s Indonesian Cultural Celebration 2022: The Secret World of
Spices, we learned and explored the various spices in Indonesia. We also took a look at the
past when Majapahit was known as a destination for expeditions by the European
adventurers for spices. The Spice Route of the Archipelago which in turn played a role in
changing the history of the world's flavor, culinary, and medicine. The theme that we
picked for the Indonesian Cultural Celebration 2022 caught the attention of The Ministry
of Tourism and Creative Economy. We received remarks from Mr. Sandiaga Uno, Minister of
Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economics. We also listen to an interesting
interview between Asya Cecilia Sharon Haryanto from 11G and Euginia Sanel Sandjaja from
10K with a native Bandaneiran. Mrs. Sri Mulyati Halim, mother of Nikita Halim of 11C, showed
us how to use spices to create foods and drinks. The Binus School Serpong Orchestra and
Choir Club performed a song called “Rayuan Pulau Kelapa”. It was truly an incredible
experience for us.

school and high school I learnt to embrace BINUS School Serpong as my second home –
and I hope you did too (man I used to spend hours after school here!). The friends, the
teachers, even the canteen vendors, they were all a dear part of my life. They were
actively contributing to my growth to become a more dignified and courageous person.
They taught me that to have dignity is not just to be treated with respect, but to also
treat others and ourselves with the same respect. It is to carry oneself with pride and
confidence, and believing that in every step we take, we are doing the right thing. To
do all that, I believe that you need a whole lot of courage to stand up for yourself when
you need to choose which path you want to take.
Right here, right now, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my parents, for I
wouldn’t be who I am today without their never-ending support and love. I also wish to
thank my teachers, for their guidance and patience in dealing with my bottomless pit of
questions, and their care to always answer them. I wish to thank my friends, for sticking
with me through thick and thin, and for all the laughs and cries. And to all of us here
today, graduating, I wish not only success to all of us, but that we are also given the
strength and courage to get through life’s uncertainties, and to keep trying.
To close this speech, let me quote RM of BTS:
“Maybe I made a mistake or failed yesterday, but yesterday’s me is still me. Tomorrow I
might be a tiny bit wiser, and that’s me, too. I have come to love myself for who I was,
who I am, and who I hope to become.”
Thank you all.
"So why is a commencement a beginning? Because
high school is not the end: it is merely a stepping
stone into the rest of our lives."
YEAR-END CONCERT
BY MR. PRAMOD KANAKATH
The BINUS SCHOOL, Serpong's Art & Music departments did a brilliant job in showcasing the
talents of students from Middle and High Schools to end the academic year 2022-23 in style.
The Musical and the orchestra performance were very much enjoyed by not only teachers and
students, but also parents sitting and watching from the comfort from their homes. The
entertaining programme was a collaboration amongst Beecreative, BINUS Choir, and BINUS
Serpong Orchestra.
The programme was enlivened by the MCs who made the session very communicative and
interactive, a break from the conventional style of announcing different items. The informal
nature of the whole session was welcomed by all. It was difficult to rate the best performance
of the day as the musical, the orchestra and the solo performances were vying with each other
to get the most attention from the audience.
The programme marked the finale to yet another year of online learning, making sure that
students still get to see and enjoy some of the most loved moments of school life.

Podcasts offer a vast amount of topics and for the most part, they’re free! There truly
is something out there for everyone.
Many studies have been done on the benefits of podcasts, and what they do for people
mentally. One study proves that podcasts stimulate mental imagery more intensely
than watching or reading, and cause listeners to have to pay more attention. Since
people listen to podcasts instead of watching them, it forces listeners to use their
imagination and build the pictures in their mind. Thus, people who listen to podcasts
regularly have a stronger and more vivid imagination.
Podcasts also help us become better listeners. Since they are all about listening, they
helps us have a greater appreciation for simply listening. Podcasts allow us to become
a part of what we’re listening, and trigger us to listen, pay attention, and then use our
imagination to form pictures of the story of what you’re listening to.
Check out our list of podcasts! They tackle every topic under the sun -- from
breakthroughs in science to YouTube culture to mental health. Some are meant to be
informative, while others are for pure entertainment value. You never know, you may
get hooked on one or two of them yourself.
