RESEARCH BACKGROUND

Understanding chemical formula and
equation is important as this subtopiv is
applied in another 10 topics in chemistry
form 4 and form 5.

But teaching this subtopic using
textbook is not the best method as it
can demotivated student. trmation of ion
is abstract concept. thus a teaching aids
need to developed.

The teaching aid that is created
must be easily handle by students and
colourful to attract their attention. the
card that is developed considered the
materials that low cost and can easily
prepaired as well as very related to the
concept atom and ion

MY REFLECTION

Construct a chemical formula and write
balance chemical equation is the basic in learning
chemistry. All the chemical names in chemistry
is shown using chemical formula and reaction in
chemistry is represented by chemical formula in
the form of equation.

However, this concept is abstract as
student cannot see the ions, thus they need to
imagine the ion before the can formed the
chemical formula, so problem occured when they
write wrong chemical formula.

When writing the chemical equation,
students faced problems to balanced the
equation when they do not understand the
number of ions involve in the chemical formula.
everything in this concept is abstract.

Thus I proposed Dotted ionic card so
that student can see the number of ion involved
in the chemical formula and equation.

OBJECTIVE OF INNOVATION

the main objective of his innovation are:
1. to facilitate student so that they can

imagine the form of atom that
becomes ion
2. guide student to form chemical
formula by combining the card at
their dot
3. help student to see the number of
ion involve in the contruction of
chemical equation so that the
equation is balanced.

ABOUT INNOVATION

1. every card is shape into round as the atom is
always represent as round

2. all the metal atom that donate electron will
have dotted on right side. the number of
dotted is corresponding with the number of
charges

3. while the nin metal atom that receive electron
has dotted at the left side.

LEARNING CONCEPT

base on the formula of ion, students supposed to cross
the charges of each ion to form a compound, but they
cannot do so as they dont understand why the number of
chloride ion becomes two. it abstract.

base on text book student need to imagine the number of
ion involve to balanced the equation. but they cannot
understand since it is abstract

• teacher shows the ionic card to
students

• explain one example to use doted ionic
card

• then in group of 4 students explore and
contruct as many as they can the
chemical formula

• then used the techniqu to construct
equation and balance the equations
