Meghna Agarwal

Perturbed by urbanization and its toll to the fauna of the country,
Meghna works actively on the theme of globalization that how in
the name of the development, our today’s society is cutting down
trees for creating urban spaces for their own needs and thus
leading to the displacement and later extinction of animals.
The negative impact on environment also include substantial
increases in air, water and soil pollution, decreases in biodiversity,
includes a massive loss of crop and livestock varieties, depletion
of ocean sheries and signicant increase in invasions of exotic
species including animal pathogens.

She intends to show the loss of habitat, which is caused due to
human activities. If we change and think about animals then
probably, we might save a few in future before making them
extinct.

Priti Samyukta

Priti’s works emerge as chronicles of her life, family and neighboring
world echoing intransigent social norms and the multifaceted roles of
women. She consciously renders her mufed spaces with ora and fauna
as she believes that women are always strongly associated with design
and decoration. Hence the self portraits show dissimilar attires with
fashionable hair dresses and with meticulously painted oral designs all
over the canvas. In an unfussy engagement with her work, one can see
a kind of disinterestedness in exercising proigacy of imagery other
than the crawly creepy oral motifs as apparent in her small scale work
mostly done in ink using masses of lines and cross hatchings. By doing
so, Priti gives an utmost attention to the expressions of the portraits
which evoke a sort of narcissism occupying the entire surface. The self
depictions redene femininity bringing everything into the space with
inquisitiveness. Her ‘persistence of memory’ is deciphered deliberately
within the contours of the image and the imagery that is derived from
her house-hold things such as old pillow covers. Her nostalgic opus
inspired from oriental zest against a multi-layered back ground, sings
the lullaby of the past and the celebration of present as she afrms,
‘journey is more important than the destination’. Her etched plates
and lithographs hold tremendous craftsmanship, where by each
quarter of the space is worked out systematically in order to articulate
the signicant entity of each form and to delve into deeper meanings.

Rohini Reddy

Rohini has carved a niche for herself as a sculptress par excellence.
As one of the few female sculptors of Hyderabad, Rohini is well known
for her bronze gurines. They have won her critical acclaim which
represent ‘womanhood’ and feminine in power. The sculptures express
mute conversations, displaying their strength as all encompassing nature,
bestowed with powers of birth, growth and nurture. In their meek yet
dignied postures, these bronze gurines occupy thrones; sit under tree
branches or beside their male counterparts. However the male characters
appear to be submissive, while the female protagonists enjoy their own
space and individuality. The female body itself becomes a spiritual
ground for her as she takes inspiration from temple sculptures and
architecture while making use of metaphors like seeds, creepers,
doorways etc to talk about the inner realm within the body, i. e the soul.
Her recent pen drawings display her skill and hard work done on large
scale. The arduous rendering of the pen generates subliminal quality by
bringing forth her theme and her entity together as one. Unlike the
earlier sculptures where the female stands on her own, here the male and
female gures share a space complimenting each other in a space lled
with wondrous ora and fauna.

Shampa Sircar Das

Shampa Sircar's works addressess that oneness in the essence of all; the
unity of existence. Unity is the song of life; it is the grand theme
underlying the rich variations that exist throughout the cosmos.
Whatever we see, whatever we experience, is only a manifestation of
this eternal oneness. The inner voice embraces and enlivens all aspects
of reality. This energy takes a wide variety of forms, including nature,
creation, life force, movement, mind, and strength, as well as the power
to dominate or destroy. Time is cyclical, and in the world of change and
becoming; the relative world, everything is transient and nothing endures.
There is birth and death, growth and decay; there is combination and
separation, full of changes and transformations. The canvas becomes a
large area of space, a void, where forms are constantly resonating,
emerging out, expanding and then dissolving into it. Transience and a
sense of movement in these paintings touch the viewer with the play
between form and emptiness. Replete with cosmic energies and
symbolisms oating all over her canvas, her works is a study in the power
of the spirit within the domain of human and earthly ancestry.
Shampa uses a synthesis of philosophy, aesthetics and technique to create
her own language on the canvas. Symbols fascinate her, as they have a
language of their own and encompass the power of silence within them.
The forms and elements are an integral part of the space where sometimes
they cross the threshold; the boundaries dissolve and become part of the matrix.

Shankar Parmarthy

Shankar Pamarthy, born in Nalgonda in 1963, never studied academic art
but admired ne arts right from his childhood and began doodling at the
age of ten years. Soon after his graduation, he started working as a
drawing teacher and later on, he moved to the capital city of Hyderabad
at the age of 28 in order to shape his career as a journalist/political
cartoonist.

A ne quality of colour pencil rendering is dexterously done by fragmenting
and mutilating but with accurate characteristic features, as the physiognomies
evidently show a faultless visualization of the gifted artist. He does not believe
in any sort of stereotypical exaggeration instead captures the soul of the character
with a distinct style that he developed over the years. Be it Mother Teresa,
M.S Subbu Lakshmi or Charlie Chaplin the naturalistic features are duly captured
and the mannerism is attained. The forms transgress the idea of provocation,
satire and criticism as they are pretty, adorable and thoughtful depictions of reality.
These remarkable renderings on paper reveal Shankar’s unfathomable artistic insights,
his natural skill of capturing the essence and his philosophical interpretation of the
sub consciousness while re-presenting the spoong.

who savour the visual experience she offers through her artworks.

In the words of Shifali herself, “Art is my internal dialogue,

certain forms, colours and materials, and it is not until they are
on canvas that they tell me what they want.”

Siddharth Shingade

Siddharth’s ouvre has always included the Shakyamuni Buddha,
and Shiv-Parvati, and with these iconic gures he becomes more
than a visual artist. He turns storyteller. It seems as if he
personally witnessed the spectacle of Lord Krishna lifting the
hill to save the farmers and their cattle from the wrath of Indra.
The meticulous detail will leave you breathless . He embellishes
his paintings with details hitherto unseen on his earlier work.
Conveying many parallels such as oppression, the oppressed,
the deance, and karma, a wonderful tale is woven creatively
and awlessly by Siddharth through the medium of his paintings.

Sreekanth Kuruva

One of the leading contemporary Indian artists Sreekanth Kurva
spent the rst 38 years of his life in Begum Bazaar in Hyderabad,
and there his lifelong fascination with animals began. He would
keenly observe as tribals from Rajasthan brought goats, buffalos
and roosters to the bazaar. Through his original paintings of the
animal world, he engages with human traits such as passion,
anger, vanity and submissiveness as well as virtues of patience,
benevolence vigilance and pragmatism.

Art by Sreekanth Kurva is heavily inuenced by his studies in
printmaking, a medium that gave him the opportunity to
experiment with various materials and techniques. Since line is
the most important element in the printmaking process, he
prioritizes its role in dening the contours of his animal subjects.
He rst experimented by lling in their forms with glossy
swatches and patterns from fashion magazines, and later he
began using textile pieces and ethnic prints in silk, brocade and
zari. Today, his highly textured paintings incorporate acrylic
brushstrokes and fabric collages on canvas.

Srinivas Reddy

Srinivas' oval shaped faces and heads in bre-glass are portrayal of human
intellectual and spiritual powers. Using the metaphor of Buddha in Dhyana
Mudra or in an introspective mode, his heads seem to search within as they
appear calm in their peaceful posturing. The inlayed impressions and
markings suggesting a paradoxical stance highlighting an interface between
nature and man, between classical motifs and urban popular symbols and
between human desires and fears as a psychic play of the transition from
rural to the urban. His base colours are solid and often offer a contrast to
the central gure and inlayed drawing in a meditative or trance-like stance
and to quote the artist, everything "emerges from here in a spiral form".

Experimenting in various mediums, wood, stone, bronze, terracotta, bre
glass, drawing and painting, the artist creates captivating art that adorns
a universal look. His earlier work primarily in bronze were im human form
and life size with an earthly look that seemed inspired by mythology and
classical forms including the Ajantha frescos engulfed in nature and full of
mythical creatures. His drawings, using graphite pencils are noteworthy
for their intricate detailing of the human anatomy, a nesse of perception
and their tonal and textural variations. The rendering in water colours
impressionistic strokes make interesting studies of people and places while
his terracotta and wooden work in narrative mode is inspired by Indian
sculptural traditions while also displaying an appreciation of western
modern trends.

His head sculptures illustrate his technical skills in creating
art that is also conceptually strong where the surface of the head becomes a
space for painterly expression embossed around the center projected as the
focal point for intellectual and spiritual powers within a simplies form just
like Brancusi. But then Srinivas diverges in another direction as he takes
recourse to a local idiom-prehistoric on the one hand and contemporary
popular culture on the other. Looking upward and facing the sky his heads
stage a tableaux en-capturing people, animals, spaces, ideas or media images.

Subrata Das

The works of Subrata Das exudes his poetic imagination and his deep
interest in depicting characters from the Indian mythology. His most
famous series focuses on the divine love of Radha and Krishna. His canvas
tries to capture a celebrated mythical love that exists beyond the mundane
conjugal relationships. Subrata Das experiments with mixed media and
acrylic to create a mood of mystique that surrounds Krishna and Radha,
with a layer of surreal owers and twines that intersperse these art works.
The ute is a recurring motif, which speaks of the allure of Lord Krishna
and the divine love that Radha is mesmerized in. Unlike the usual
depictions of Gods, which tend to be very ornate, Krishna and Radha are
painted as young lovers in simple village attires, austere yet evocative in
their bearing.

A reection of notions of the aesthetic beauty in Bengal can also be seen
in a series of paintings done by Subrata Das where he depicts Bengali
women. His art shows Bengali women in sarees wore in the traditional
Bengali style with a calm smile on their faces, adorned in shringar and
vermillion which is slightly smudged. The backgrounds of these paintings
sometimes have goddess Durga, showing the fortitude of these women
beneath their calm selves. These paintings of Bengali femininity are as
sought after as his portrayals of Radha-Krishna, and his paintings adorn
the walls of the famous and have been exhibited across India and abroad.
