Nzira 51 according to local legend, is the home of an immense and powerful serpent. Mountain acacias adorn ridges, 昀氀anking the springs and seeps which hold surprisingly lush pockets of vegetation, creating a haven for bird species and smaller mammals alike. Down on the 昀氀oodplains there is a remarkable similarity to Mana Pools National Park with towering evergreen trees and lush vegetation surrounding deep pans. Accessibility to the park has been one of the biggest obstacles and the condition of the roads has historically limited visitors to those who are experienced 4 x 4 drivers, particularly at certain times of the year when the condition of the roads is further affected by the rains. Chizarira’s isolation, however, means that there are relatively few visitors, giving a “The human soul is hungry for beauty; we seek it everywhere - in landscapes, amidst wildlife, in companionship and in ourselves. When we experience the beautiful, there is a sense of homecoming.” – John O’Donohue very wild and exclusive feel to the park and making it a prime destination for walking safaris led by parks rangers or professional guides. It is excellent country for leopard which thrive in this kind of rocky, broken and jagged landscape and it has fairly good populations of antelope from kudu and klipspringers to impala and if you are lucky, roan. The park also contains buffalo, elephant and a small lion population. Traversing the riverines and spring-lines on foot often allows for some special encounters with the antelope species which inhabit the park and a slower pace allows for an appreciation of the incredible birding available here. Chizarira National Park is, in essence, a birders paradise with close to around 400 different species.
52 Aug/Sept 2018 The park contains an estimated 70% of Zimbabwe’s total bird species and includes specialities such as the Narina Trogon, Livingstone Flycatcher, African Broadbill, Yellow-spotted Nicator, Racket-tailed Roller, River Warbler, Miombo Double-collared Sunbirds, Black-eared Seed eater, Barred Long-tailed Cuckoo, and the rare and elusive Angola Pitta. Most raptors can be found in the park including the Verreaux’s Eagle which nest in the Mucheni Gorge at the view point and are frequently harassed by the much smaller Peregrine Falcon. The African Crowned Eagle is generally found along the riverine of Makula Spring and the near threatened species of Ayre’s Hawk-eagle are seen as well as Black Storks and Taita Falcon which breed in the cliffs and gorges. Over the years, due to its remote location, its relatively small number of visitors and a lack of tourism infrastructure all led to diminishing resources and the park became easy to exploit suffering a loss of species due to an increase in poaching and vulnerable to 昀椀re outbreaks. . Chizarira is located in the Northwestern section of Zimbabwe Access is currently limited to high clearance 4 x 4 vehicles although the airstrip has been refurbished and is now in use Best for birding, walking safaris, landscape photography and adventure travellers An estimated 6 to 7 hour drive from Victoria Falls if entering the North of the park and dependant on the time of year and condition of the roads
Nzira 53 Shelley Cox is a proudlyborn Zimbabwean with a deep passion for wildlife and conservation. Having studied for a Bachelor of Journalism at Rhodes University in South Africa, Shelley has worked in the tourism industry for the past nine years and is a co-owner and the Marketing and Sales Director of Africa Conservation Travel, an organisation with a focus on creating a greater connection between tourism, conservation and local communities. Shelley also does voluntary consultancy to Zambezi Elephant Fund, an organisation focused on the protecting of the Middle Zambezi Biosphere Reserve. Once a refuge for the endangered black rhinoceros, they are unfortunately, no longer present and populations of other species are not as dense as in other parks across the country. Today however the situation is changing. Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority have formed an agreement with National Park Rescue and Bhejane Trust to assist in the rehabilitation of Chizarira National Park to ensure its future protection and preservation. The work underway as a result of this collaboration will provide the wildlife within Chizarira the much needed protection and an opportunity to bounce back. Road grading has been underway for the past few months and new road developments, including 4 x 4 routings for varying levels of experience, is in the pipeline. The airstrip has been refurbished and the Mucheni viewpoint and Mucheni Gorge campsites have had a facelift and now have running water and toilet facilities. In addition, National Park rangers have been kitted out, trained and are being given logistical support as part of increased efforts to put an end to poaching. The morale of these men on the front-lines who are protecting the park has been boosted and the good news is that efforts to bring the poaching situation under control are already bearing fruit with a noticeable increase of game being seen In addition, National Park Rescue are pioneering new models which they hope will allow for the park to become self-sustaining for the next 100 years plus. National Park Rescue works in collaboration with National Park Authorities to take action and end the impending disaster facing wildlife and other parks across Africa by using direct action and diplomacy to transform National Parks. 90% of their staff are locally employed on the ground in Africa including senior negotiators, conservationists, rangers and security personnel. The organisation is supported by several well known celebrities including Sir Michael Caine, Sir Roger and Lady Moore, Lord Spencer-Churchill, Rupert Everett and Michael Palin. Visiting Chizarira has never been about seeing large herds of animals. It has been about appreciating its pristine wilderness and biodiversity, savouring the epic landscapes and absorbing the incredible tranquility which the park offers. Securing Chizarira National Park will ultimately preserve one of Zimbabwe’s last great wilderness areas and protect important populations of threatened species including elephant, lion, leopard and the rare Taita Falcon. The result will be an increase of tourism to the area, generating funds for the park and providing livelihood opportunities for the surrounding communities. Ultimately the success of this project will mean it can continue to function as an important ecological linkage to other protected areas in the region and allow for the long term preservation of one of Southern Africa’s rapidly dwindling, truly wild and rugged habitats. ‘Proclaimed as a Reserve in 1958, the National Park was then gazetted to give sanctuary to wildlife driven out of the Zambezi Valley during the formation and rising waters of Lake Kariba’. 56 Aug/Sept 2018 hy on earth am I doing this again?” There is often a time in our lives where we feel the need to challenge ourselves and achieve something that we would be proud of. If you are a sportsperson and you love the outdoors, there is a race right on our doorstep that ticks all the boxes and is well on the way to becoming a popular event The Sky Run Zimbabwe was launched in December 2015 and a small group of enthusiasts jumped at the opportunity to try something different. Trail running is still relatively new in Zimbabwe but it has been one of the fastest growing sports worldwide in recent years.. This nagging thought crosses my mind as I am trying to power my way up Mount Nyangani. To avoid negativity creeping in, I turn around and look at the landscape before me and I am immediately 昀椀lled with a sense of joy in spite of my weary and aching limbs. So I smile, look at the pathway above me, and start moving again. We began just before dawn. I am half way through the Sky Run, somewhere between Far and Wide, (an adventure camp in Eastern Zimbabwe) and Aberfoyle Lodge which, hopefully, I will reach before sunset! W Image Far and Wide
Nzira 57 The run is limited to 60 people for the ultra event and 40 for the light event. It follows the route of the Turaco trail, which was opened in 2012. This trail took three years of construction and was cleared, by hand, keeping the environment in mind and not a single tree was cut down during the process. It takes hikers on a journey through a vast and untamed mountain wilderness, through wild rivers and waterfalls, forests, grasslands, valleys, gorges and peaks. The trail is approximately 53 km long and it is not for the faint hearted. To complete this event, the Sky Run athletes have to build their strength and endurance through months of rigorous training. If you hope to 昀椀nish this race, without properly preparing yourself, you will probably stand a better chance of getting selected for the All Blacks for the next rugby world cup! There is also a light version which is approximately 30 km for people who want to get a taste of this event for the 昀椀rst time. Stage 1: This is approximately 15 km long. It starts at Far and Wide, just before the crack of dawn. Competitors will run along the escarpment enjoying spectacular views of the rising sun until the trail leads you down, through a series of switchbacks, to the base of the Chikorokoto Mountain and up to the summit. This is approximately 8 km long. After crossing the Pungwe you will be faced with what I believe is the hardest climb of the day. Approximately 4 km of near vertical climbing takes you out of the gorge before reaching the Nyazengu ridge. On this section you will de昀椀nitely 昀椀nd out whether you have properly prepared or not! This stage is approximately 30 km with a slight downhill past Golden Pools, where you will cross crystal clear streams lined with golden rocks and pebbles. Usually, the 昀氀y 昀椀sherman inside of me, wants to chuck all the running gear on the side of the bank and cast a few lines in search of a trout but I quickly remind myself that I am here for another reason and any time off the trail would cost me dearly. The path along the ridge leads you to the second nutrition point at Golden Pools. This point has to be reached by 11:30 a.m. or you will not be allowed to continue. The race marshals will assess each individual again and if you manage to answer their questions coherently, you are good to go. If you have opted for the lighter trail run version, this is the start of your race. Stage 2 Stage 3 Stage 1 The Sky Run is divided into 3 stages. The long descent takes you into the beautiful Pungwe gorge and downstream through forests until you reach the con昀氀uence of the Pungwe and Nyazengu rivers. The 昀椀rst nutrition point will be situated here, where there is a chance to catch your breath and replenish your liquid and solid reserves. Race marshals will check for any signs of exhaustion, dehydration and the mental state of the runner before that person is allowed to continue across the mighty Pungwe. In my mind, the race begins here.
58 Aug/Sept 2018 There are no prizes offered here for completing this event but each competitor does receive a bag of superb, export quality tea, from the Aberfoyle plantation! The camaraderie felt between fellow runners and actual completion of the challenge is immense reward in itself. The pain endured will soon be forgotten but the self pride for accomplishing such a dif昀椀cult event, in one of the most scenically rewarding parts of Zimbabwe, will remain etched in your mind forever. Eventually, a path along the edge of the river takes you to a clearing 昀椀lled with tea plantations and 昀椀nally through a canopy of trees which opens out onto the Aberfoyle golf course. Drummers welcome you at the end of the green and the sound of those drums is the sweetest thing you will hear for a long while! Pick yourself up, sprint for the last 200 meters and you are home and dry. It is a long day. Once you reach the base of Mount Nyangani, take a deep breath, begin the climb and take a moment or two to look down at the spectacular panorama around you. As the mountain 昀氀attens out a small kick takes you to the summit and then back along the top towards little Nyangani. A long descent through a very pretty forest, interspaced with the odd short climb, will eventually take you into the grassland, winding your way down over a few rivers and past occasional waterfalls. 60 Aug/Sept 2018 n this cold school winter half term break in Harare, there was the usual mass exodus 昀氀ocking out of the capital city in search of rest and relaxation. Some went to Nyanga, some to Umfurudzi or Kariba, to get away from the hustle and bustle, whilst some of us headed north to Chirundu. Five hours later, (this included paying our National Parks entry fees at Marongora National Parks of昀椀ce), we reached Tiger Safaris, our destination and home, for the next three nights. Chirundu, Zimbabwe’s northernmost border post, is an assault on the senses. As you go over the Zambezi Escarpment and descend into Chirundu, the heat hits you and the bright blueness of the sky leaves you squinting. The road is lined with stationary lorries waiting to clear their loads with customs at the Zambian border post. Vendors on foot, hawk their food and drinks, baboons casually saunter along, looking for easy pickings whilst lorry drivers sit in their cabs to escape the sun and heat. You could be at any southern or Central African border post. Bumper to bumper, the lorries are parked on the left lane which means we have to take an unplanned, bouncy but mercifully brief, off-road dusty detour along the right hand dirt verge of the main road until we get to the Tiger Safaris turning. It certainly adds to the adventure of getting out of town for the weekend. After this, Tiger Safaris is just a two kilometre drive off the main road. It is cool, shady, green and inviting and a world away from the hustle and bustle of Chirundu town. The minute you get there, the tension that comes from driving for any length of time on your average Zimbabwean road, slips away. For the weekend ahead, the outside world ceases to have any relevance. There are seven speed boats and a pontoon, each with a driver who knows the river inside out. Our driver Tendai, I have to quietly confess, had a lot to do with our successful landing of some very decent sized tiger 昀椀sh. The most important thing, after deciding which bedroom you’re going to sleep in, is unpacking and deciding what you are going have for supper and taking a stroll to the river bank, sitting down on a camp chair to enjoy the view whilst the river rolls by lulling and mesmerizing you. o Tim and Michelle Ballance, have owned Tiger Safaris since 2002 but have only in the last few years taken on the day to day running and management themselves. Michelle makes it a point of checking in with each and every guest at the end of the day. This hands on approach has seen Tiger Safaris survive lean times in a depressed local economy and it is now growing into a sought after resort. With the implementation of fewer and friendlier police road blocks, this means that not only local visitors are coming, but more people are crossing our borders and braving our roads again, to catch a tiger 昀椀sh or just to relax.
Nzira 61 eeeee Elephants casually meander through the camp, munching on the vegetation and as long as you are careful and respect these animals who have as much right to enjoy the facilities as you do, then you will be safe! It is, after all, the African bush and a big part of the charm of Tiger Safaris is this very special experience. I took my binoculars and enjoyed spotting the abundant bird life around the camp. The riverside property is shady, cool and spacious. Unlimited water means lawns are green year round. There are 昀椀ve river front chalets (two-bedrooms and a kitchen) and one three bedroomed air conditioned chalet also with a kitchen. There are now two single en-suite bedrooms with air conditioned units. All the chalets and rooms are serviced daily so no making of beds or washing up for me on this trip! A campsite is under construction and should be 昀椀nished as we go to print. The drivers know how to 昀椀sh as well as knowing the locations of the best spots. They also play a huge yet unobtrusive role in making sure your trip goes as smoothly as possible. Whilst it is marketed as a 昀椀shing camp establishment, it’s much more than that. My husband is a fan of the river and has been to Tiger Safaris more than once on 昀椀shing trips. It took some effort on his part to persuade me to come and see Chirundu for myself. I’m so glad I did. The property is no longer fenced off as the electric predator fence, which previously surrounded the property, has beed removed and visits from the local wild residents are not uncommon. Every day, elephants and baboons quietly come and go as they pass through to drink from the water hole at the edge of the property. Monkeys patrol the grounds, always on the lookout for a spot of mischief making. Our nocturnal visitors included genet cats and also hippos which ef昀椀ciently mow and fertilize the rich green lawns. 70 Aug/Sept 2018 Brazilian Beef and Bean Bowl 400g beef fillet steak 1 chili 2 cloves garlic 1 inch ginger 1 lime 1 tsp paprika 1 tsp cumin 1 pack coriander 1 tomato 2 sweet potatoes 1 avocado 1 orange 100g cherry tomatoes 1 can nyimo beans 1 tbsp butter 1/2 cup + 2 tbsp. olive oil Salt and pepper to season. INGREDIENTS FROM THE CUPBOARD STEP 1 Order. Cook. Eat. Serves Prep Time Cooking Time Difficulty 2 30m 25m Easy Zest and juice the lime, peel and mince the garlic and ginger, and de-seed and mince the chili. Finely chop 3/4 of the coriander. STEP 2 STEP 4 STEP 3 Add the steak to a ziplock bag or glass dish. To make the marinade combine 1/2 cup olive oil, lime juice and zest, garlic, chili, paprika, ginger, cumin, salt, pepper and coriander in a bowl. Pour about half of the sauce over the steak (the rest will be used for the sauce). Rub the marinade all over the steak making sure the steak is well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight. To make the sauce, finely dice the single tomato and place in the blender with the remaining marinade and the flesh of 1/4 of the avocado. Blend until smooth and season with salt and pepper. Slice the remaining avocado flesh, halve the cherry tomatoes, remove the peel and the white pith from the orange with a knife, then cut the orange into slices. Wash and drain the nyimo beans. STEP 6 Place the steak on one side of the grid pan and the sweet potatoes wedges on the other. Grill each for about 3 to 4 minutes per side or until char marks appear. If your sweet potatoes wedges are thin or your grill is really hot, they will cook faster, so watch them closely. Also, if your grill is small, grill the steak first and then the potatoes. Remove and allow the steak to rest for 5 minutes before thinly slicing it. STEP 7 Divide the nyimo beans, sweet potato wedges, cherry tomatoes, avocado and orange slices between bowls. Add the steak slices and garnish with the remaining coriander leaves. STEP 5 Wash and cut the sweet potatoes into thin wedges leaving the skin on. To make the chips and grill the steak, preheat a grid pan or your braaii to high heat. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the sweet potato wedges and boil for about 5 minutes or until just fork tender. Remove from the water and drain. Toss the sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt and pepper.

72 Aug/Sept 2018 Mention polo and one immediately thinks of royalty, champagne, horses and the international jet-setter lifestyles. Most people would not associate Zimbabwe or the little town of Ruwa with “The Sport of Kings” nor would they imagine a spectacle of horsemanship and glitz and glamour. The Carrick Ambassador’s Cup has gone a long way to changing this perception. At its inception in 2015 the Ambassador’s Cup concept was to bring members of Zimbabwe business, diplomatic corps, NGOS and general Zimbabweans together to mingle, network and enjoy an event of global quality, whilst giving back to the community through the support of a registered charity. Since the inaugural event held in 2016, it has grown in stature and is now one of ‘the premier social and networking events’ of the year, with VIP tickets being only available via pre-booking one year in advance. The 2018 version, with the theme “Pretty Posh – Oh my Gosh” promised to bring the best of Zimbabwean polo, wine, food and fashion together at the magni昀椀cent Bushman Rock in Ruwa. Bushman Rock, known primarily for its hosting of society weddings and the production of the much touted Moscato wine has been the venue since the tournament’s inception. The Polo Pavilion, overlooking the polo 昀椀eld out over the vineyards and onto the msasa covered granite kopjies beyond, is touted as one of the most picturesque grounds in the world and the organisers have worked tirelessly to get the grounds and surrounds into top shape. Tables were beautifully laid on the terrace and a sumptuous German inspired al fresco menu was produced by the talented and un昀氀appable Pomegranate Catering Company. The polo had started on a chilly Friday afternoon with the preliminary knock out stages of the tournament being played. As the other players and spectators huddled in the AMG Global Club House with the 昀椀re roaring and tea in hand, the 昀椀rst match began in the B Division. Premier Auto B and Manokore B teams battled it out in what was to be an incredibly hard division with the match having to go into a sudden death extra chukka when the Manokore team managed to convert their opportunity to progress through to the 昀椀nals. The much fancied Rift Valley B team, captained by current South African test player Gareth Evans, had been dominating throughout the year but did not manage to reach top gear on day one going down in a thrilling match by one goal to the Ecocash Team. The A division teams took to the 昀椀eld with the Premier Auto A team taking on the Manokore A. In some thrilling polo the Premier Auto team managed to pull through with some great interplay between Umzari Club veteran Chris Aitchison and Harare Club stalwarts Barry Browne, Richard Brown and Richard Taylor. The fancied Rift Valley team with the mercurial David Meikle at the helm were expected to push the Econet Platinum team comprising David’s brothers Gareth and Corey Meikle, father Robbie Meikle and the ever improving Tari Mudawarara. The Econet Platinum team proved too strong and the 昀椀nal was set for Saturday between Econet Platinum and Premier Auto. As guests sipped their champagne, nibbled on hors d’oeuvre and mingled with the host, His Excellency, The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr Thorsten Hutter, the B Division third and fourth play-off between the Rift Valley and Premier Auto teams provided some great entertainment. With the “Red Carpet” entry being 昀椀lmed for online and satellite distribution, huge interest was shown by traditional media in the fashion and lifestyle angle of the event. The hype surrounding the fashion element at the Carrick Ambassador’s Cup 2018 was in danger of outshining the polo. This year’s best dressed prize, presented by RwandAir, of two return business class tickets to Cape Town raised the competition and hype event further. As Burns wrote, “best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” and the weather threatened to cause havoc with the event. With unseasonal arctic temperatures in the single digits, the organisers had to hire in extra heaters, riders had to ensure horses stayed hydrated and were well warmed up prior to playing and the tea and coffee suppliers rubbed their hands with glee. Guests who had planned much anticipated award winning ensembles had to go through last minute wardrobe changes to combat the chill. Despite natures attempts to cool proceedings down, the on 昀椀eld polo and the off 昀椀eld best dressed competition (to say nothing of the free bar) managed to add heat to the proceedings. Nzira 73 The 昀椀nals of the B Division were a hotly contested affair and kept guests’ attention away from the competition unfolding on the red carpet. With Ecocash players Nathan Stockil (15yrs) and Pat Aitchison, being on opposite sides of the age spectrum, their blend of youth and experience and ably assisted by Chris Aitchison and Pascal Gambeau managed to pull them through against the Manokore team. As guests enjoyed the sumptuous lunch and made use of the complimentary bar, the Rift Valley and Manokore A teams competed in a great third and fourth play-off. Once guests were fully refreshed and with satiated hungers, the 昀椀nals of the Carrick Ambassador’s Cup 2018 went underway with the throwing-in of the ball by His Excellency, Ambassador Hutter. In a fast moving and high scoring match the spectators were kept enthralled by the horsemanship and ball skill on show. The Carrick Ambassador’s Cup 2018 at Bushman Rock
74 Aug/Sept 2018 As the lead was swapped between the two teams Tari Mundawarara showed commitment and broke the deadlock with an amazing goal but in the process displayed an elegant forced dismount, leading with his shoulder. The goal proved to be the opening of the lead and after this the Econet Platinum team never looked back. Although the Premier Auto side showed some of the grit that had pushed them through the Friday matches, the interplay between Meikle family members and the ability to link up with goal scoring machine Mundawarara, led to a 2 goal win by the Econet Platinum team. Despite polo being one of the oldest organised sports in our country (Harare Polo Club was established in 1896) it remains relatively unknown to most Zimbabweans. The Carrick Ambassador’s Cup 2018 de昀椀nitely went some way to changing this and in so doing, raised over $5 800 for St Josephs 18+ House for Boys. With sponsors already committing to the 2019 version, the event promises to continue its trajectory and is certain to cement its place as “the social event of 2019”. 82 Aug/Sept 2018 Lately our communication streams have been clogged by reports of people we knew, might or should have known, who have passed on unexpectedly. You just don’t quite know when your ticket is the single to the 昀椀nal destination. When I was a young brash lad serving in a police force I met a certain Constable Mutsvairo. He was a larger than life jovial fellow and he woke up one morning to 昀椀nd himself lying in a cold dark room and through one half-opened eye he saw a large big toe with a cardboard label with his name neatly printed upon it. SD 1/75, the 昀椀rst sudden death of 1975! Only he wasn’t dead yet. She famously once borrowed a baby from the orphans’ nursery in the hospital where she worked and took it home for the weekend ‘to see how dif昀椀cult they are to look after’ as she told us years later. Luckily she put the baby back and left space in her life for us. As Granny Pat went through her eighties and the 昀椀rst year of her nineties, she shed off material possessions with gay abandon. Old photos went to the daughter, her sons were given the choice of paintings and furniture as she downsized from a large rambling family home to a cottage, a room in a retirement home and 昀椀nally to a bed in the frail-care centre. She made it very clear to the nursing staff that on no account was she to be given any lifeprolonging treatments in the event that one of her frequent turns looked like it was going to end in a wheels-up. She died at 91.5. Like an FM radio station, she went from on to off in a split second. When we went down to Mutare to help tidy up her life, there were three neat cardboard boxes under the bed. Everything labelled as to who the item must go to and why. Under the pillow was an envelope with the exact amount of money required for a cremation at the local mortuary. Now, of course, she is completely done and dusted. I have a jersey knitted by her, a wall painting of a shepherd and his 昀氀ock and fond memories that never fade. So we are at that stage in our lives where we are about to 昀椀nish a tiny two-bedroomed retirement cottage and will move within a month or so, from the rambling junk-昀椀lled family home that our three kids were raised in. We are both inveterate hoarders. The bad times, or rather tough times, taught us to cherish possessions that might be hard to come by in the uncertain future we almost always seem to have faced in a country blessed with sunshine and good people. As we turn right out of the road, then left and proceed a hundred metres to the cottage, we will do our utmost to ensure that it is furnished sparsely. Fortunately the wife’s perception of a little two-bedroomed cottage has translated to a massive steel and glass mansion with plenty of storage underneath for the things we might still need. So that’s the story folks, there is no doubt that your life, however you have lived it, will be a dead-end. Just make it a tidy Nzira. His problem was resolved quite quickly. Apparently he had been riding his bicycle on patrol, was knocked down by a car and was out cold. His 昀氀uttering heart palpitations and shallow breath were hidden from discovery by the vast layers of adipose tissue surrounding his vital organs. So he was pronounced dead. A few screams and banging on the mortuary wall soon recti昀椀ed his problem and he could carry on his life as normal. He was revered by fellow members of the Force. The Bark of the Urban Baboon Words and Photos MAFUNGI However you may not be so lucky to get a second chance and I thought I’d share with you the story of Granny Pat who showed us the way to tidy up her life before passing-on. This was a woman who almost single-handedly defeated the Third Reich when they were at their most threatening in the Battle of Britain. She had an American serviceman boyfriend long before it was socially acceptable in tight-lipped London society to do such things.
