Chapter 1 The Basics Of Zero Hunger What is an SDG An SDG is a call to action to end poverty and inequality, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy health, justice, and prosperity. They were made on January 1, 2016, made by the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development What is Zero hunger Zero hunger is A resolution of 75/212 interactive dialogues and collaboration with multi-stakeholder. The goal is to end hunger and achieve food security. A study tour is organized for responses- or requests. It is tough these days with inflation to buy food. A lot of people are in poverty and have gone hungry with nothing to eat. Zero hunger is important because in Minnesota alone 483,000 people have gone hungry. One in six Tri-State residents is at risk of hunger, according to Freestore Foodbank. More than over 80,000 are kids. The extraordinary thing about this is that many people are at risk because there is no food or clean water so they could pass away just from that. Most people can barely get that but they do so it depends on what situation you are in. This book will talk about the basics of Zero Hunger, its causes, and possible solutions that could help end this problem.

Chapter 2 Causes of Hunger Poverty Having a lack of money can lead to hunger. Researchers have found that “Hunger is at the heart of extreme poverty.” (United Nations) Poverty is a cycle. Once you’re in it it's extremely difficult to get out of it. If we end poverty there will be a lower chance of hunger globally. War & Conflict War and conflict can be big contributors to the issue of hunger.“Wars are inherently violent and harmful, but the destruction of resources can sometimes create more catastrophic harm than bombs and bullets. Warring parties may plunder an enemy’s food supply, deliberately destroying farms, livestock, and other civilian infrastructure. Conflict can cause food shortages and the severe disruption of economic activities, threatening the means of survival of entire populations.” This is important to consider because it depends on where the war is fought. For people who are living close to a confit because it will be either destroyed or they ran away from it Natural Disasters Natural disasters could destroy the resources that people have. “Hunger and malnutrition are often caused by natural disasters and conflict or a combination of the two. Prolonged drought may destroy crops and cause food prices to skyrocket, or violent conflict may force people to flee their homes and livelihoods.”(Nat Geo) People facing these types of situations might have to flee their homes with no money or food. That is also why zero hunger and poverty tie into each other.

Chapter 3 Brazil Without access to an education it can be hard to get ahead. AFP news states,“In this tiny house in one of Rio's Favelas Tonya, her husband and their four children are scraping by. With no education and no steady job, they're used to living hand to mouth. But for the last three years, life has been a bit easier thanks to one of President Lula's main domestic programs, a monthly stipend knew as the Bolsa Familia granted to Brazil's poorest families.” Lots of people are living in the same situation as Toyna. Having access to school could give the kids more steady jobs when they are older. The leader of Brazil wanted to change the issue of hunger. According to United Press Internaitioal “Last month during the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called for the creation of a worldwide hunger eradication program to be funded by wealthy nations via a tax on international financial transactions.” The extraordinary thing about this is that this program helped some people out of bad situations. The people in the program have good help. If all the people agreed to the tax Brazil would see major improvements in eradicating hunger.

Chapter 4: Solutions Volunteers and Organization People are trying to help end this problem. "Hunger and food insecurity are critical issues across the state and partnerships like this one with Fred Meyer and QFC aim to shrink the numbers of people facing food insecurity," said Debbie Christian, executive director of the Auburn Food Bank. Oprah Winfrey, a long time celebrity has been working with this organization to end hunger for kids in Cincinnati. The extraordinary thing about this is that more people pay attention when celebrities engage with causes. If more people are willing to help it will make ending hunger easier. End Conflicts Stopping the cycle of conflicts around the world is a big step towards fixing this problem. This shocking fact reveals, “Conflict and hunger create a vicious cycle. When war erupts, instability forces people to find illicit and sometimes violent means of acquiring their necessities. In this unstable period where access to food is fought over, the risk of social unrest heightens.” (UN WFP) If a lot of people help fix zero hunger then the problem will be over soon Reducing Food Waste Everyone benefits if we can end food waste. According to the world food program USA ”Providing farmers with modern storage equipment like silos and air-tight bags, Offering long-lasting foods like flour, dried beans and salt – all properly packaged in sturdy containers.” The extraordinary thing about this is that if we end food waste a lot more people will have food and zero hunger would not be a problem.
