close with so many upperclassmen and just being able to talk

The best part about newspaper is that your name does not
matter. Whether your siblings were in the class or not, everyone
started the same and had the potential to end the same way.
With this, I was able to decide to become a leader, rather than
just be freshman year me, sitting quietly, doing everything to just
get by rather than going above and beyond.
Having a high position meant that I had to talk to everyone and
be able to help them out like I had been helped out.
