Enjoys wrestling, but only when he wins!
FRESHMEN
Joe Harris (Freshman)
We only bring up freshmen from the Jr. High if we feel
they can help our Varsity program. We made the right
choice with Joe. He has 23 Varsity matches under his
belt and 10 Varsity wins. He has a bright future. Can’t
wait to see him over the next three years.
MJ Turi (Freshman) Season Record 30-18
MJ placed in all three of our tournaments.
(Athens, Lackawanna League and Tunkhannock
Holiday) He was 4th in the District and a NE
Regional qualifier. MJ was a District 2 Academic
All-Star and a Scranton Times Coaches All-Star
(second team).
He was also an Iron Man. (didn’t miss a day for the
third straight year)
MJ is the recipient of this year’s
Rookie of the year Award
SOPHOMORES
Shannon Core (Sophomore) Season Record: 28-16
Shannon placed in the Tunkhannock Holiday tournament.
He had 28 Varsity wins and was 3rd in the District. He was
a NE Regional qualifier. Shannon wrestled at the 285 lb
weight class and was very successful. This is tough to do
when most of your competition are Juniors and Seniors at
this weight. Shannon has a bright future on the mat at
WSHS.
Aiden Kologe (Sophomore) Season Record: 23-23
That season record does not tell the story of Aiden’s
season. Aiden wrestled two weight classes above his
weight most of the year. Stuck in between Fashouer (40
wins) and Turi (30 wins), Aiden agreed to bump up. Aiden
was a District placer this year and a District 2 Academic
All-Star.
Aiden is an Iron Man for the second year in a row.
Aiden is the recipient of this year’s Coaches Award
Edward Miranda (Sophomore)
This was Ed’s first year wrestling at West.
Ed wrestled for the first time last year at
Scranton Prep under the legendary Coach
Flynn. He had a couple J.V. wins under his
belt this year.
Juniors
Xavier Bronson (Junior)
Xavier has been with the team the past two years
after spending time with both our Jr. High and Jr.
Club teams. As a Sophomore he started 14
matches on Varsity. He has 8 Varsity wins. Xavier
was 3rd at J.V. Districts this year. Xavier was also
an Iron Man this year. He didn’t miss a day.
Cameron Butka (Junior) Season Record: 42-4 Career Record: 86-33
Cameron is a three year starter. He is a three time District placer. He is a two
time NE Regional qualifier and this year placed 6th in the Region. He is also a
three year District 2 Academic All-star and a two year State Academic All-star.
Cameron was 38-0 going into the District finals when he suffered his first loss 8-7
to a State Qualifier. He beat 6 State Qualifiers this year on his way to winning the
Title in all three tournaments we wrestled this year. (Athens, Lackawanna League
and Tunkhannock Holiday tournaments) Cam made the Scranton Times Coaches
All-star team (first team) and the Scranton Times All-Region team this year.
Cameron did all this without missing a day. He is a five year IRON MAN.
Did I forget to mention he is ranked 1st in the Junior class.
Cameron is the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Wrestler Award
And the Walter Lazuka Award
(wrestler who advances furthest in postseason)
Raphael Carvalho (Junior) Season Record: 15-10
Raph has been with the team the past two seasons after
coming up through our Jr. High program. Raph had 15
Varsity wins this year. There is no doubt in my mind that
Raphael would have been a full time starter on most teams
in District 2. Unfortunately we had 30 match winners at
145-160. When we did bump the line up around to get him
in, he was successful. Raphael was also an Iron Man this
year (2nd year) and made the District & State All Academic
team. Can’t wait to see him as a full time starter next year.
Austin Fashouer (Junior) Season Record 40-5 Career Record 103 -23
Austin is a three year starter. He is a three time District placer and two
time finalist. He is a three time NE Regional Qualifier. Austin won both
the Lackawanna League and Tunkhannock Holiday tournaments. He
finished second at the Athens tournament when he dropped a 5-3
decision to a 2X PIAA State placer. Austin is also a three year District 2
Academic All-star and a two year State Academic All-star. He was on the
Scranton Times All-Region team last year and a member of the Scranton
Times Coaches All-star team (first team) the past two years. Austin is
only a Junior with 103 wins, I can’t wait to see him beat the school
record of 144 next season.
Austin is the recipient of this year’s Invader Award
( This is Austin’s second season winning this award. It goes to the OW runner up)
John Fuller (Junior) Season Record: 33-12 Career Record: 35-18
After coming through our Jr. Club and Jr. High programs, John
had some time away from wrestling. As a freshman he spent
half the year at Scranton Prep and when he returned to West
only had 8 Varsity matches under his belt at the end of the
season (2-6). He decided to take his Sophomore season off.
This year he had a monster season with 33 wins. John placed
in both the Athens and Lackawanna League
tournaments.John was a Scranton Times Coaches All-Star
(second team).
He was 6th in the District.
John is the recipient of this year’s
Most Improved Wrestler
Jesus Gonzalez (Junior)
Jesus had 10 Varsity wins this season. Could have
been a full time starter on most teams but
unfortunately he was stuck behind some tough
competition. Can’t wait to see him next season as a
full time starter.
Jesus was also a J.V. District Champ.
Jesus is the recipient of this year's
Outstanding J.V. Award
Jacob Kizer (Junior)
Jacob has been with the Varsity the past two
years after going through our Jr. High program.
He had a tough time competing as a sophomore
because he was a lot lighter than his opponents.
He worked hard in the off season to put on weight
and it paid off. He had 11 Varsity wins this
season. We are looking forward to seeing him at
full strength as a senior.
Anthony Viscomi (Junior)
Anthony started his wrestling Career last year
as a sophomore and was an Iron Man. Anthony
had 11 J.V. wins this year. He is dedicated, one
of the hardest workers in the room, and a quick
learner. We look forward to him grabbing a
Varsity spot his senior year.
John Walsh (Junior)
John has been on the Varsity the past two seasons
after spending time in both our Jr. High and Jr. Club
programs. John had 15 Varsity wins this season
and was a J.V. District Champ. John was also an
IRON MAN this season, he didn’t miss a day. He is
dedicated and works hard. We are looking forward
to his senior season.
SENIORS

Randy was a four year starter. He was also a four year District
2 Academic All-star and a three year State Academic All-star.

Invader wrestling team. He had 14
Varsity wins for our team this year
and was 2nd at JV Districts.
Skyler Esquilin (Senior)
This was Skyler’s first year of wrestling.
He was a nice addition to our practice
room because he was so athletic. He
had 8 J.V. wins. He picked things up so
quickly. We wish we had him as a
Freshman.
Nick Guerra (Senior)
This was Nick’s second year of wrestling.
The one match that sticks out in my mind
was his last J.V. match in our dual meet
against Scranton Prep. It was a barn burner
and the whole team was cheering him on like
it was the District final. Nick finished second
ranked student in the class of 2020, he was
also Co - winner of the James Kasiewicz
M.D. Scholarship. ( wrestling / academics )
Rondell McCullough (Senior)
Rondell was our utility upper weight over
the last three years. This year he wrestled
at 285,220,195 and 182. He was the only
wrestler on the team that covered four
weight classes throughout the year. He
finished the season with 11 Varsity wins
and his career with 25 Varsity wins.
Joel Tricoche (Senior) Season Record: 26-10 Career Record: 44-30
Joel was a two time District placer. Last year as a Junior
he finished 4th in the District and was a NE Regional
qualifier. He also won his only match wrestled at the
Regional tournament. He had to injury default the rest of
the tournament. This year Joel placed 6th in the District
and a Scranton Times Coaches All-Star (second team).

Coaches All-star team (first team) the past two years. Garrett was also
Co - winner of the James Kasiewicz M.D. Scholarship. ( wrestling /
