WOODSHOP
By Ernest Fleury

Karl Georgi made wood boxes and gifts for his children and grandchildren. Steve Gleimer made tissue boxes and a three-tier lazy

susans from wenge and maple with wenge splines. He also made a Mockingbird Lane house in between his time as treasurer of the
Woodshop. He made a 4 segmented bowl consisting of padauk, wenge, ash, hickory with a walnut base. Don Seaton from Toronto
is displaying his array of cherry bowls and assorted cups and vases for his wife Kathy and their children. These bowls along with a

portable alter were made while she was here on earth, and will be given by Everett Yank to both his church and close members of his

family in memory of his wife Sharon. Yank’s son Dan gave him a bubinga wood log which he made into a bowl with dogwood hand
carved flowers all around. Spauled maple dish with turquoise inlay, Ambrosia large dish with hand carved dogwood flowers, Sharon’s
favorite. A large Sassafras wood bowl with 6 coats of polyurethane. All craftmanship was done by Yank, along with the Piro branding

on the bottom of each treasure.

By Ernie Fleury
Joe Bauer’s work: 3 bandsaw boxes, napkin holders, Joe’s crazy design cutting boards, candle holders; both Joe and I made most of
these treasures from cut offs and scraps of hard wood that I save for him every year.

Tradewinds Park

An Enjoyable Destination for All Ages

By Patrick Lewis-Moors
Broward County’s

Tradewinds Park, 3600
W. Sample Road in
Coconut Creek, offers a
delightful variety of year-
round activities close
to Wynmoor.  Along
with trails for biking,
walking and horseback
riding, there are plenty
of picnic tables and
hibachis for barbecue
enthusiasts, shelters for outdoor gatherings, fishing spots and playground for
active families.  The Park is on both sides of Sample Road, with Butterfly
World on the south side and pony rides and educational farm on the north.
Also on the north side is a live steam railroad, Tradewinds and Atlantic
Railroad (TARR). TARR is operated and maintained by a club of volunteers
and is open to the public on the third full weekend of each month, Saturday,
and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 12 months a year. Riders can enjoy a
trip of nearly 2/3 of a mile for a nominal fee, which supports the upkeep of
the railroad. TARR’s locomotives include coal-fired live steam, gasoline and
electric. There is also a large tabletop layout where club members run model
trains on five separate tracks for public viewing at no charge.  The model trains
include Lionel - O - gauge and a larger “G” gauge. The station also has a gift
shop where train enthusiasts can a purchase a variety of train-related items.
In addition to the activities mentioned above, Tradewinds Park houses an
exceptional equine-assisted therapy program and hosts a festive annual holiday
lights display. Other amenities include a number of athletic fields and disc golf.
For more information about Tradewinds Park, visit the Broward County
website Broward.org/Parks or call (954)357-8870. For more information about
TARR or to find out about club membership and volunteer opportunities, visit
them in the park on the third full weekend of the month.
