WHAT WE DO...

2018 Estimate of Taxable Values:

The preliminary 2018 property values will
be posted on our website at www.bcpa.net on
June 1st. This will be your first opportunity to
review your 2018 property value and contact
our office if you believe the just value to be inaccurate.

Florida law requires our market values be a year in arrears, meaning we
use the qualified sales of comparable properties from January 1, 2018 back
through January 2, 2017 for the 2018 property values. If you purchased
your property in 2018, your 2018 purchase price will be used in setting your
property’s 2019 market value.

For questions regarding your residential property, please call 954-357-6831.
Our office will be mailing the 2018 TRIM (proposed tax) notices to all Broward
property owners in mid-August. This notice will show your property’s 2018
market value, assessed value, exemptions and proposed tax rates, as set by
the various taxing authorities.
Did You Have Homestead Exemption on One Home and Purchase

Another?

If you had Homestead Exemption on a property in 2016 or 2017 and have
purchased a new permanent residence in Florida, please make sure you have
applied for both Homestead Exemption and Portability at your new residence.
Portability allows you to transfer the savings you built up by having Homestead
Exemption on any Florida property to another Homesteaded property in
Florida. To transfer the “Save Our Homes” benefit, you must establish a
Homestead Exemption at the new home within two years of January 1st of
the year you sold or moved from the old homestead (not two years of the sale
or move date).

Note: A Portability application transfers the savings you have earned, but it
does not automatically transfer your Homestead Exemption. You must apply
for both Homestead Exemption on your new home and complete a Portability
application. The Portability application can be found on our website at www.
bcpa.net/Forms/DR501T2009.pdf

For questions regarding Homestead Exemption, Portability or any of
the available tax-saving exemptions, please call our Customer Service
representatives at 954-357-6830.
The absolute last deadline to file for all 2018 exemptions is September 18,

2018.

Meet Our Mobile Exemption & Information Team:

The Broward County Property Appraiser’s Office has a group of

Captivating The Cultural Spirit Of America’s

Gateway To The West, Saint Louis
By Barry Isaac

In the middle of April, I was in Saint Louis, “America’s Gateway to the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Max Beckmann
West.” I spent three quality days in the St. Louis Art Museum enjoying its “View of City” “Christ and Sinner”
splendid works of Art. This art museum is located in Forest Park which was
the site of 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis. This art museum is free of charge,
but donations from the public help it maintains its high standards. Since this
art museum is relatively large, I have confined my review to its splendid
collection of 20th Century Art from its permanent collection.

The St. Louis Art Museum has a definitive collection of 20th Century Art
produced by German painters. Especially well-represented in its permanent
collection, are paintings by Max Beckmann. During the time of the Hitler
Regime in Germany, paintings by Max Beckmann were outlawed and
considered, “Degenerate.” Beckmann, who was strongly opposed to Hitler,
fled Germany and went to Holland. He eventually settled in St. Louis after
World War II and taught Art at Washington University in St. Louis for 2 years.
The Saint Louis Art Museum has many paintings by Max Beckmann. Some
were donated by his wife after he passed away. My favorite Max Beckmann
paintings were “Christ and The Sinner, The Bathers, The Acrobat, Masquerade
and “Self-Portrait.”

Other German and Austrian 20th Century painters very well-represented
in its permanent collection, included Lovis Corinth, “Nana, Female Nude,”
Franz Marc, “Little Mountain Goats,” August Macke, “Landscape With Cows,
Sailboats and Figures,” Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, founder of the Brucke School,
“Rising Moon,” Ernst Ludwig Kirschner, “Basel on the Rhine River,” Erich
Heckel, “Bathers,” Emil Nolde, “Woman,” Otto Dix, “Felixmuller Family,”
Paula Modersohn-Becker,” 2 Girls in Front of Birch Tree,” Max Pechstein,
“Sunset,” Max Ernst, “Long Live Love” and Oskar Kokoshka, Austrian
painter, “Painter and Model.” All of these painters also were considered
“Degenerate” by the Nazis and their works of Art were outlawed by the Nazis.

At this art museum, I saw wonderful paintings by these European painters
as well, Eduoard Viullard,” Art Dealers; Henri Matisse, “Bathers With
Turtle,” Pablo Picasso, “The Mother,” epitomizes Picasso’s, “Blue Period,”
Juan Gris, “Stillife With Guitar,” Georges Braque and Paul Delvaux, “Fire,”
very surreal and sensual.

I also saw fine 20th Century Sculpture by such European Masters like Henry
Moore, Jacque Lipschitz, George Kolbe, “Dancer,” and Marcus Lupertz,
“Titan,” Post World War II among others.

20th Century American favorites at this comprehensive art museum were
Paul Cornoyer’s, “Plaza After Rain,” New York City, “Great Reflections,”
Ernest Lawson’s, “Road Down Palisades,” Alice Neel’s, “Uneeda Biscuit
Strike,” Joe Jones, “View of Saint Louis,” vilified by the rich and powerful for
his Socialistic beliefs in the 1930’s, Allan Crite’s, “Douglass Square, Boston”
and Frank Stella’s stellar painting, “Madinat As Salam 3,” very Geometric.

Saint Louis, primarily associated with the Gateway Arch and baseball,
Saint Louis Cardinals has so much more to offer for people who seek cultural
enrichment.

celebration is Sunday, June 3rd at 9:30 AM.
This is the time to schmooze over bagels and
coffee and get to know your Temple family. For
those who are members of our Temple, please
feel free to join us for a wonderful morning
and get to know our Board and Officers. Please
notify the office if you are planning to attend.
The Men’s Club and Sisterhood are winding

GRASSING New tee first hole
COMPLETE

By Kevin Battersby, PGA

By the end of April, the remaining greens were sprigged with platinum
Paspalum and several tees were sodded with the same.

In addition to the new tee recently completed on hole #2, this year a new
back tee on the first hole has been sodded.

The summer rains have commenced, and the growing season is here. It’s
fascinating how well this grass grows here in south Florida.
