"MY BUTTERFLY: AN ELEGY" IN 1894, MARKING
HIS FIRST PROFESSIONAL PUBLICATION. ROBERT

THE DARKEST EVENING OF THE YEAR.

THE POET’S HORSE FELT STRANGE BECAUSE
NORMALLY THE POET WILL STOP AT THE
FARMHOUSE WHEREBY THE PLACE WILL BE
SURROUNDED BY MANY PEOPLE BUT THIS
TIME THE POET STOPPED AT A DESOLATE
PLACE, THE PLACE IS TOO DARK AND NO ONE
IN THIS PLACE. THE PLACE WAS SO COLD
AND THE LAKE GOT FROZEN AND THE POET
STOPPED NEAR BETWEEN THE LONELY PLACE
AND THE FROZEN LAKE. THE HORSE FELT
DIFFERENT AND IT WAS THE DARKEST
EVENING OF THE YEAR, MAYBE IT MEANS THE
POET IS GOING THROUGH SOME HARDSHIP IN
HIS JOURNEY OR IT CAN BE DURING END OF
THE YEAR AND CHRISTMAS DAYS IT WILL BE

IN THE SAME WAY THAT THE ROMANTIC

POETS WERE TEMPTED BY DEATH

HIGHLIGHTS THE DANGER HIDING

BEYOND THE TREES. AS A RESULT, A

REALISTIC COMPONENT OF THE POEM IS

REQUIRED TO SHOCK THE RIDER OUT OF
