HIDDEN FIGURES A Disney Legend weekly Magazine

“Not Lilian "How about
Mortimer. Disney Mickey?”
It’s too
formal. "

Lillian Marie Bounds was an American ink artist at
the Disney Studios, and the wife of Walt Disney,
from 1925-1966. Born in Spalding, Idaho, on February
15, 1899, Lillian grew up in Lapwai, Idaho. She moved
to Los Angeles in 1923, and won a job at the fledgling
Walt Disney Studio as a secretary and inker of
animated cels. Lillian met the boss, who sometimes
asked her not to cash her $15-a-week paycheck. The
boss soon met her family and on July 13, 1925, they
married in Lewiston, Idaho.

While raising their two daughters, Lillian served as a
sounding board for her husband as he created films
and the theme park that made him and his company

known internationally. Lillian was a conservative
balance to Walt’s daring, and yet was indulgent, too,
allowing him to dig a tunnel under her prized flower
garden for his backyard railroad at their Holmby Hills

estate.

Her film career includes work as an ink artist on the
film Plane Crazy. Disney is credited with having
named her husband's most famous character,
Mickey Mouse, during a train trip from New York to
California in 1928. Walt showed a drawing of the
cartoon mouse to his wife and told her that he was
going to name it "Mortimer Mouse." Disney replied
that the name sounded "too depressing" and she was
very proud to have suggested the name "Mickey
Mouse" instead of Mortimer.

Lillian suffered a stroke on December 15, 1997, 31 years
to the day after the death of her husband, and passed
away the following day. She was 98.

Did you know about...

TwoSet Violin is a famous duo consisting of Brett
Yang and Eddy Chen, two classical musicians who
have reached the milestone of 4 million subscribers on
Youtube! These two individuals make the genre of

classical music popular again, especially to
the younger generations, by showing their

passion for it through their comedic
expressions and musical talents.

Brett and Eddy first met at a math tutoring group after school, and by
a stroke of fate found out that they were both attending their local
youth orchestra as its youngest members as well. They studied at
Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University in Australia (of which
many of the allegories featured in their present YouTube videos revolve

around). Brett debuted in 2012, when he performed the Tchaikovsky Violin
Concerto at Queensland Conservatorium. On top of that, he worked with

many other Australian orchestras, and even had the opportunity to
perform at the 2014 G20 Brisbane summit. In the 2014 National Young

Virtuoso Award in Queensland, Eddy, a finalist, performed with the
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

In 2013, they began their YouTube channel, “TwoSet
Violin”, first posting pop music covers. However, they did
not gain much traction on the platform until they began

to shift the style of their videos to something more
comedic, resulting in an upsurge in their viewership. Their
videos featured fun classical music-related challenges and
jokes. In 2016, the two decided to leave their orchestras to

focus on performing in their very own live shows.

In 2017, the talented pair busked on the streets in order to
raise funds for their very first world tour. Normally, people
receive funds from the government or through sponsorships,

but TwoSet Violin chose to go with crowdfunding, making
theirs the first ever crowdfunded classical music world tour.

Eddy explains their choice in an interview, “Government
grants and sponsors are just a different feeling to our
comedy YouTube channel and our brand.” Their first world
tour was a success, as tickets were selling out in major cities.
One of their most memorable moments of the tour was when
they got to perform with one of their idols, Hilary Hahn, an

American violinist, who was also a fan of the duo.

Their later videos also contain exposés of inaccurate portrayal
of classical music in media. This has sometimes led to

controversy; such as the revocation of an award in a talent
show, or getting "cancelled" by K-pop fans. Despite these
setbacks, TwoSet Violin have successfully conducted their

second virtual world tour and released a full suite of original
recordings titled Fantasia, composed by Jordan He, not to
mention their incredibly popular merch line TwoSet Apparel.

Their videos continue to feature famous violinists such as Ray
Chen, Chloe Chua and Hilary Hahn (again), and they have
also collaborated with numerous popular YouTubers on the
platform such as Roomie, Davie504, Uncle Roger, Steven He
and many more. But most importantly, they've managed to
establish a supportive and wholesome fanbase of budding
music lovers and expand the classical music community.

After an admirably brutal

attempt at murder, Wednesday

Addams is sent to Nevermore

Academy, where the visions

begin and the mystery is

afoot.

Watch On - Netflix

A dark gothic character, draped in black and white, the colour of a chess board,
or a sheet of paper cut with scars of ink. Tim Burton returns once more in

unbelievable triumph in the latest dark horror mystery thriller Wednesday, set
in a pre witch hunting society that houses beings despised by normies, with

werewolves and sirens alike as the narrative follows Wednesday Addams, a girl

haunted by visions, brilliant in craft, and extreme in nature. Set in a large

schooling home, Wednesday is not your average quick flick of tasteless romances,
clichéd plot lines that take far too long to develop laced with stereotypes that

are heavily played. Rather it is a show that hooks well before it gives.

"In the realm of cinema, there are only two kinds of horror thriller creations.
The ones that bore you to death rather than scaring you, filled with ridiculous
scares, recycled outfits of the usual red vampire cape with overpowdered mascara

face masks or even a damsel that gets hurt far too conveniently so that the

monster can have a forced change of heart. Then there is the latter. A story so
bewitching, bold in its beginning, arguably uncaring in its viewers response to

violence and gore, limited in its run time to protect itself from unwanted

extensions yet strong enough to keep you watching as you observe, oblivious to

the seconds passing around you, the minutes that fade and the hours that

succumb. The chills that climb every so slowly up the back of your neck,

spreading as it goes higher and higher. The picture moves. A darker scene.

Focusing in. On something, or rather, someone. Narration. A dark turn to arise.
And end. Cue credits, and instantly play the next episode. For there is no valid
reason to over look this show, let alone not finish it. Its darkness is

delicious and its mystery, excellently done. With halloween behind us, why not

have another reason to stay up late and get a good scare?"

PSEUDO SCIENCE

Astrology

Astrology is the study of the motions and positions of the sun, moon, planets,
and stars to understand how these celestial bodies influence human affairs and
the natural world. Using the reader's birth date, astrologers publish customised
horoscopes in newspapers. These horoscopes use the positions of astronomical
bodies to foretell aspects of an individual's life, describe personalities, and offer
guidance.

WHY IS IT PSEUDOSCIENCE?

Astrology is classified as pseudoscience because it has not been scientifically
validated and shown to be helpful in controlled experiments. No proposed
mechanism of action does not go against well-known, fundamental principles of
biology and physics that explain how the positions and motions of stars and
planets influence individuals and events on Earth the way astrologers claim they
do.

HISTORY OF ASTROLOGY

Astrology originated in Mesopotamia. It developed its Western form in Greek
civilization, then entered the Islamic culture as part of the Greek tradition,
spreading through the world. The initial purpose of astrology was to tell an
individual's life based on the planets and the zodiac signs at birth.

TYPES OF ASTROLOGY

Natal astrology: looks at the fate of an individual - requires a lot of study as it
deals with human affairs

Mundane astrology: looks at the fate of a country - some historical events were
explained through mundane astrology

Medical astrology: looks at health through astrology

COVID Update!

Following the surge of protests in China, the Chinese
government has abruptly abandoned their zero-COVID policy.

In the face of Omicron, Beijing has opted for presenting the
prevailing Omicron variant as a less lethal version of the

original disease. However, this does not reflect studies on the
impact of Omicron, and the country is ill-prepared for a wave

of deadly Covid infections that it may soon face!

Antisocial Personality Disorder (pt. 1)

Antisocial personality disorder, better known as sociopathy, is a
personality disorder where patients experience impulsive,

irresponsible and often criminal behaviour. Someone with antisocial
personality disorder will typically be manipulative, deceitful and
reckless, and will not care for other people's feelings.

These are some characteristics of people with APD:

exploit, manipulate or violate the rights of others
lack concern, regret or remorse about other people's distress
behave irresponsibly and show disregard for normal social
behaviour
have difficulty sustaining long-term relationships
be unable to control their anger
lack guilt, or not learn from their mistakes
blame others for problems in their lives
repeatedly break the law

A person with antisocial personality disorder will have a history of
conduct disorder during childhood, such as truancy, delinquency,
and other disruptive and aggressive behaviours.

Christmas is a time for people to visit their loved ones and spread joy and
the Christmas spirit. This was no different for 15-year-old Kristy Bamu, or so
he thought.

This is the tragic story of Kristy Bamu on Christmas day.

In 2010, Kristy and his four siblings visited their 29-year-old sister, Magalie
Bamu, and her boyfriend, Eric Bikubi, in Newham, to celebrate Christmas.
However, instead of celebrations, they were met with false accusations.
Bikubi began to accuse the four of witchcraft, and brought a kindoki, an
African voodoo, into their home.

The pair subjected the four siblings to severe abuse and deprivation of food
and water for the following three days. At one point, Bikubi told Kristy and
his sisters, aged 20 and 11, to jump out of the window to see if they could
fly. This continued until the two sisters falsely confessed to witchcraft.

TTTRRRUUUEEE CCCRRRIIIMMMEEE

Unfortunately, Kristy was singled out after wetting his pants. Kristy was attacked
with knives, sticks, metal bars, ceramic floor tiles, bottles, a hammer and a chisel
by the two. Sister Kelly, who was 21 at the time of the trial, told the court:

"Kristy asked for forgiveness. He asked again and again. Magalie did absolutely
nothing. She didn't give a damn. She said we deserved it."

On Christmas day, after four days of horrific torture, Kristy died after being
drowned in the bath in an attempt to perform a "ritual cleansing". It was said
that Kristy was in so much pain from the torture, he “begged to die” before he
was placed in the bath. An autopsy showed that the boy had sustained 130
injuries.

Both Magalie and Bikubi were found guilty of torture and murdering Kristy.
Magalie was also convicted of two counts of assault - which her boyfriend had
pleaded guilty to. Bikubi was jailed for a minimum of 30 years, while Bamu was
sentenced to 25 years. The judge accepted that Bikubi truly believed Kristy was a
witch - but said this was no excuse for assaulting another person, "let alone the
killing of another human being".

What do you think about this case?

Sun stalking solar panels!

In order to get the most out of its energy, a
Portuguese company’s sustainable solution stalks
the Sun as it journeys across the sky.
SolarisFloat has created an innovative floating solar
system that is unlike the many others that are
currently stationed in bodies of water across the
world. The floating island is powered by electric
engines that consume less than 0.5 percent of the
total energy produced, thanks to single- or dual-
axis tracking. According to the BBC, the PROTEVS
installation is the first to combine floating solar

panels with Sun-tracking technology.
The island is currently floating in the lake of Oostvoorne Meer in the Netherlands.
PROTEVS, which consists of 180 mobile solar panels, has a total installed capacity of 73
kilowatts of peak power (kWp) and may enhance energy production by up to 40 percent
due to sophisticated technology that allows its double-sided panels to revolve in

accordance with the movement of the Sun.

Domino's using EVs!

Domino’s Pizza is investing in a fleet of 800
electric Chevrolet Bolts painted in Domino’s
livery to supplement its understaffed driving
crew. As the world’s largest pizza company,
Domino’s investment in EVs represents a
particularly high-profile adoption of electric
transportation by the fast food industry.
After receiving comments from site owners that
they couldn’t hire new delivery drivers because
owning a car was too high a barrier to entry,

especially in this economy, Domino’s concluded that giving vehicles was the solution to
help solve that problem.
The lower maintenance costs of Chevy EVs were critical in their selection. While certain
Domino’s outlets would need to install chargers, the pizza vendors are sure that the
expense will be offset by the money saved on gas and maintenance.
The approach is also a significant departure from employing gig economy apps like
DoorDash and GrubHub for delivery services, on which many cost-cutting food
restaurants, including direct competitors like Papa John’s and Pizza Hut, have relied,
particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
