The hunger for God among the nextgeneration is higher than I have seen for many years. Theresponse of young families who are searching for a place tofind a spiritual home is incredible! More and more \"spiritualparents\" are investing their faith among the youth and youngadults in our Hope family, and long-time disciples of Jesus areinvesting in new disciples!God has called our Hope family and friends to be part of God'smovement to bring the Hope of Jesus to new generations ofnew people in new places. That incredible calling can inspireeach and every one of us to invest even more of our time, energy and resources so that many more will discover forgenerations to come how great is our God!It has been a delight to hear so many stories from our Hopefamily who have witnessed the hope of Jesus pass fromgeneration to generation. Some are written here. I hope youwill be inspired and let God stretch your imagination andgenerosity even more to help bring the hope of Jesus togenerations to come!Looking forward,Pastor Paul and Carol SorensenPAUL SORENSENLEAD PASTORFor high school sophomore Brooke Tovar, faith has alwaysbeen a part of her story—and it’s her love for others and herdesire to serve that show how God is continuing to movethrough each generation. As a junior high leader at HopeChurch, she is investing in the same ministry that helped shapeher own faith journey.Brooke’s story with Hope Church began years ago when herfamily moved into the neighborhood and noticed a new churchbeing built just minutes from their home. “We thought toourselves, ‘Once it's built, we should at least try to go,’” Brookerecalled. “We went and there was a big festival, and we justreally liked it.”Since then, Hope has become much more than a Sunday stop;it’s become home. Brooke’s mom works at Hope and is aregular presence on stage during Sunday announcements. Herdad, a dentist, now teaches at Midwestern. “My parents meanthe world to me,” she said. “They’re always there, no matterwhat I need.”To Brooke, her faith journey really began to unfold during hertime as a student in Hope Jr. High Youth. “The group was soimpactful to my faith,” she shared. “I gave my life to Jesus injunior high.”Brooke TovarNow all glory to God, who is able, through hismighty power at work within us, to accomplishinfinitely more than we might ask or think.Ephesians 3:20 p.s., As you read these stories, you canalso use the QR code to either read thefull story or watch a video interview.

A lot of brothers and sisters atHope have invested in me by asking me to joingroups and try to come into my life to get to knowme. People of Prayer has really prayed for me andthey follow up with me every week. And the soundengineers have asked if I wanted to join and they’velet me participate and learn . . . I haven't been herefor very long, but I really see people’s love.”Mike FuFaith for Brett Phillip didn’t just happen—it was planted early, nurtured over time, and reignited by the investment of others.Raised in a strong Christian home, Brett’s faith foundation wasshaped by parents who prioritized church, community, andGod’s Word. “I was very blessed to be raised by two incredibleparents,” Brett shared. “A lot of who I am today is through theosmosis of being raised by my dad and my mom.”While his parents set a solid example of faith, from age 18 to24, church was put on the back burner for Brett. Yet, God’shand never left him. A spontaneous move to Portland, Oregonbecame a turning point. There, mentors welcomed him backinto faith, and it was also where he met his wife, Moriah. Now living in Anthem, Brett and Moriah were invited to HopeChurch by his sister. From the moment they came, they werehooked. “It’s been really remarkable being a part of the Hopefamily,” Brett said. “When you have a community of peoplearound you who truly want to know how you’re doing and howthey can help, it is life changing.”Brett PhillipShe recalled sweet memories of attending Jr. High Sunday serviceand camps, but what stuck out to her the most was seeing thededication her leaders had to showing up and pouring out instudents’ lives. Leaders like Casey made a deep impact in her faith.“Casey’s always been there in my life and she’s helped me throughthe thick and thin,” Brooke said. Now, Brooke is stepping into that same role, serving as a juniorhigh leader herself. “I want to invest my life—pour into the newgeneration to hopefully be like my leaders. I want to fill their cupas my cup was filled.”Whether she's playing saxophone in band, performing intheater, or creating a new art piece, Brooke is blooming withpassion. Her joy and care for others shine as she lives out thegifts God has given her. Especially as she shares His love withthe next generation through investing in Hope Jr. High andwalking faithfully with Christ at school!“For the Lord is good and His loveendures forever; His faithfulnesscontinues throughall generations.”Psalm 100:5Read More Stories

Read More StoriesTo Troy and Barb Hailpern, passing on faith isn’t a concept—it’s away of life. From their children and grandchildren to youngleaders at church and baristas at Elevate Coffee Company, theHailperns have embraced God’s call to invest in the nextgeneration.Barb’s faith journey began in childhood, but it was at HopeChurch where she says her understanding of Christian communitytruly deepened. “Coming to Hope was a whole new adventure; awhole new understanding of what church is,” she said. “Being partof Hope and wanting to invest in friends and family and expandmy knowledge and prayer walk is a joy to me.”For Troy, his faith took root when Pastor Paul married him andBarb in 2008. “Hope has been my only church,” he shared. “I’vecome to faith with the people of Hope.Together, Troy and Barb have built a life centered on ministryacross generations. They lead a missional community calledJourney for all ages and recently started a huddle including youngmissional community leaders. As the managing partner of ElevateCoffee Company with Hope, Troy also has a unique opportunityto invest in the younger generation with a staff made up of youngemployees, mostly under the age of 25. “It’s a very young team ofemployees, and it’s been a blessing—I really get to live life withthem,” he said.At the heart of their ministry is a simple but powerful value:invitation. “Everything is invitation,” Barb explained. “If you extendyourself and open your heart, there are so many people who justwant to talk or just want a hug.”That spirit of invitation starts in their family. The Hailperns havefour children and seven grandchildren in both Phoenix andDenver, Colorado. They take every opportunity to invite theirfamily to church and into their faith journey. Two of theirgrandkids in Phoenix, Aiden and Amari, have excitedly embracedthat invitation.Especially now as a father, Brett is determined to pass on a faithlegacy. “I would love for my daughter to grow up knowing thatshe is a valuable daughter of the king,” He said. “I want to be abetter example for her so faith carries on not just to her but tomy grandkids and her grandkids.”From generation to generation, Brett is both a product offaithful investment—and a man carrying that torch forward. That community has been essential for the couple, especially asnew parents to their one-year-old daughter Dylan. Their YoungFamilies missional community has provided support in a chaoticseason. “They say it takes a village to raise a child, and that’s whatwe have here,” Brett said.As Brett has embraced his faith more, it has been exciting to seehis family grow in Christ as well. His brother-in-law, Jordan, recently came to faith after joining a family Bible study started byBrett’s dad. “I couldn’t be more excited for him and my sister,”Brett shared, “Knowing we’re all in the family of Christ makes iteven better.”Barb said Aiden and Amari, who are 9 and 5, constantly ask her totake them to church. “Amari comes running into the nursery ready toplay and learn,” Barb explained,“That’s what he talks about all week,‘Nana are we going to church on Sunday?’ And Aiden during worshiphas his hands raised, and he’s all in. It’s a beautiful thing, it justmakes my heart sing.”For Troy and Barb, faith is not confined to Sundays or churchbuildings—it’s woven into every relationship, every conversation, andevery cup of coffee. Their lives are a testimony to what happenswhen faith is passed on with intention, love, and an open invitation.Troy & Barb HailpernOver half of U.S. teens (52%) say they are very motivated to learnabout Jesus, and 77% are at least somewhat motivated to continuethis exploration throughout their lives. (Barna)Elders offer guiding relationships: 76% of surveyed teens soughtadvice from grandparents, and 85% respected what grandparentsshared regarding values and spiritual matters. Sue Abram — “Having a background in ministryand child development, you learn how kids learn. And we knew early on to be involved in our kids’lives—the younger they are—and start plantingtruths in them. It’s like “Bible injections,” becausethe truth is planted on their heart and their mindwhen they’re young and we can build on it. It isan investment to plant God’s word in youngchildren.”Mark Abram — “It’s been our motto, even whenwe’re doing children’s ministry, to make church aplace where the kids feel welcome, where theycan have fun, and where they can be themselves. So, we’ve gone on a lot of trips. We took highschoolers as a camp to an extreme park at14,000 foot elevation in Colorado—we just doanything we can to let kids know you can haveChrist in your life and still have fun.”Mark & Sue AbramWhen Jordan and Sarah Anthony first moved to Phoenix, theywere simply looking for a home that made sense for theirgrowing family and Jordan’s business. What they found atHope Church was something much deeper.Jordan and Sarah’s path to Hope wasn’t linear. After movingto Phoenix around 2019, homesickness eventually pulledthem to Ohio, their home state. However, it didn’t take longfor them to realize Arizona was where they were meant to be.It was during a house-hunting trip that Jordan first drove byHope. After attending for a few Sundays, the couple decided tomake Hope their church. “We’ve tried a lot of churches and itjust hasn’t felt right as a family,” Sarah said. “Hope is the firstchurch that’s felt like home,” expressed Jordan. Even theirfour-year-old son, Duke, asks them on Sunday mornings, “Arewe going to church today?”From Pastor Paul personally visiting Jordan’s business andinviting him into his life, to Sarah being welcomed with openarms into Women of Hope, the Anthonys quickly felt a strongsense of belonging at Hope. “Being a part of Hope meansbelonging,” said Sarah. As they’ve become more rooted at Hope, Jordan and Sarahfeel they’ve grown from simply attending church to trulyliving as disciples of Jesus. “You constantly hear the word‘disciple’ here,” Jordan said. “That’s at the core of what Hopeis trying to do. To create disciples of all ages.”Jordan & Sarah AnthonyRead More StoriesRead More Stories

Davilyn McArthur — “Leading Rooted has beensimilar to what I experienced when my familymoved here—being family for others. There’s a lotof transplants in Phoenix and a lot of transplants inour church who don’t have family here or they’renot from here. That’s been the most profound thingfor us, having a family through Hope. Having asupport system and being that for others. I thinkthat’s what our driving force is. Caring for othersand wanting to be their family too.”Ian & Davilyn McArthurYiu Man and Katherine Kung grew up around faith, but it was whentheir daughters started asking about God that they decided it wastime to go back to church, and that’s when Hope entered theirstory.Yiu Man and his wife, Katherine, moved to Arizona from New Yorkin 2017, looking for a better place to raise their young family. Theynow have two daughters, Kaylie and Charlotte. It was Kaylie’scuriosity in God that sparked the Kungs search for a church.“Kaylie asked a lot of questions about God and we didn’t really haveanswers,” Katherine explained. “So we were like,‘We’ll take you tochurch and you can find out yourself.’”Their journey to Hope Church began from a simple errand.“A couple of years ago, we were driving to Party City to getballoons, and I saw Union Park. It looked so different, likesomething from the South.” Yiu Man shared. That moment led theKungs to explore the neighborhood further. When they returned totour a home in Union Park, Yiu Man noticed Hope Church nearby.Their first visit was for the 2023 Christmas service.Since then, Hope has become a meaningful part of their family’slife. “The people—everyone’s really friendly,” said Katherine.“They’re great with our kids.” The Kungs eventually moved intoUnion Park, placing Hope Church right on their daily drive. The Kung FamilyJordan’s faith journey is a picture of God’s patient pursuitacross generations. Though he was raised in the CatholicChurch, faith faded from his life as he grew older, until Godused people like the McFarland family and Sarah’s father toreignite a spiritual spark. “The more time I spent around them, Igot a better understanding of faith and Jesus,” Jordan said. “As Iopened up to faith, it was everywhere.”This past July, Jordan got baptized by his father-in-law,standing in a rainy pond in Ohio. Beside him? His seven-yearold daughter, Liza, choosing the same path.Sarah sees it clearly: “My parents couldn’t have given meanything better than leading me in the right direction. I’mbeyond grateful for that, so we do that for our children.” Fromteaching her children about Jesus to serving in kids’ ministry,Sarah knows seeds are being planted just like they were in her.Faith is growing in and through the Anthonys. She stayedup reading it till 3 a.m,” Ginny said.Generational faith doesn’t happen overnight,” she explained.“You have to invest a lot of time and care and learn about yourkids. Love is time. For him, passing on faith is his highestpriority. “The thing that matters most for me is not that they getgood grades or that they’re ‘nice’ people—it’s that they believein God and they walk with Jesus,” he said. What started with a child's curiosity and a trip to Party Cityturned into something so much bigger! With Hope Church as apart of their story, God is growing the Kungs to be a familyrooted in faith.
