All teenagers are different and like to do different things. Many like to spend their free time
with friends doing activities such as shopping, going to parties, playing computer games, social
networking, texting, watching movies, going to the beach or park, watching movies and many
more. Teenagers also spend their free time in structured extracurricular activities such as sports
and art as they may sometimes feel bored with unstructured activities.
One of the joys of the teenage years is discovering the things that you have in common
with your family. Spending free time together is a great way to stay connected with your family.
Carrying out activities with your parents and siblings can be a treat. The following are some fun
time family activities to share with your family:
• watching a movie
• listening to music together at home
• going for a concert
• checking out local events such as markets, festivals or environmental activities
• cooking
• going out for meals
• having a picnic
• playing a favourite game
• going for hikes or bike rides
Some teens, however, like to spend time on their own. Reading, drawing and painting are
some of the activities they find relaxing and entertaining.

You and your friends have decided to spend a few days together during the holidays in your house. Based
on the activities you and your friends enjoy, choose a few fun activities that you can do together and
explain why you chose them. You can suggest activities other than those mentioned below.
UNIT 1
Activities • Playing chess, Monopoly or Scrabble
• Playing drums and other musical • Gardening or fishing
• Cycling
instruments • Baking
• Singing and dancing
• Playing basketball or badminton
During the school holidays, my friends and I have decided to spend a few days at home doing activities
that we all enjoy.
My friends and I enjoy music and each of us plays a musical instrument. During the holidays, we
have decided to get together and form a band. As such, we will need to choose a few songs to practise
and make sure we perform them well. As this is our rst time playing together as a band, we will need
a lot of time to get things just right.
However, we won’t be spending all our days just practising songs. Since we also enjoy sports, we
will be taking some time o each evening to play basketball at the court near my house. We can only
do this if the weather is good though. If it rains, we will stay home and play some board games. At the
moment, we have just learned how to play the strategy board game Nexus Ops. So that will keep us
occupied on rainy days.
In addition to music and playing basketball and board games, we will also try our hands at baking.
is is something new to all of us but we are keen to try out a new skill. We will look for recipes to try
out and try to bake something each week. If what we have baked is a success then we will share it out
so that our family members can try our creations.
I think this plan is a good one because we will be learning new skills and perfecting those that we
already have. More importantly, we will be able to spend time together doing things that we all enjoy.
