history Father Nicholas Baree, was the founder of Holy Infant
Sotteville Institution, France. Based on his vision of
educating the children, the missionaries who were in
Malaya at that time founded the school in 1859.
Convent Muar Primary School was the branch of
Malacca Convent. Schools that were set up by the
Holy Infant Jesus around the world used the name
Convent.

Before the year 1933, parents in Muar who wants
their children to be in the English medium school
were forced to send them to Infant Jesus School,
Malacca. Realizing the difficulties faced by the
parents, Rev. Mother John together with Rev. Mother
Martha and Rev. Mother Theodore had opened the Holy
Infant Jesus Convent Muar on January 9 1933. The
school’s building was rented and it was located in
Jalan Ali, Muar. It started off with only 50 pupils and
Rev. Mother Martha was appointed as the first
Headmistress with Rev. Mother Therese as the head
assistant.

Along with the increase in the number of pupils, in
June 1993, the school was moved to Jalan Abdul
Rahman which later it was forced to close upon the
Japanese Invasion in Malaya. It was reopened after the
Japanese War ended in 1948 at the same location.
