Encyclopedia of Alex Kim 

 

A Alex 
          Alex, the origin and first English name of mine. My body and mind still remember the 
warmth and the atmosphere of the room when my English teacher was assigning myself and 
two cousin sisters, our first English names. My English teacher’s name is Jonathan, and he 
lived next building with his wife and his son. Jonathan named me Alex, my older cousin sister 
Cindy, and my younger cousin Moby. He wrote each of our names on separate boards. ​Alex,
Cindy, and Moby, ​we were amused by his cursive writing because it was too gorgeous for 
four, five, and eight year old babies. When I first tried to spell my name cursively, my hands 
were sweating and shaking so much enough that when I finally had finished, the letters all 
looked like Harry Potter’s scar on his forehead. Apparently, I was crying and whining all about 
why I was not able to create my name with sophistication. Even though being not able to spell 
my name cursively had broke my heart and ego as a baby­writer, this experience had helped 
myself to keep my English name as Alex. 

B Ball 
          I love soccer. My love towards this sport hadn’t just started with a click in my head, it 
has stories. The time flies back to when I was 7 years old in preschool. It was recess time 
when the teacher told everyone to come out to the playground. The sliding rides and lifting 
rides, still too gigantic from a 7 years old child’s sight, gave gigantic amount of joy and 
happiness that he hadn’t even thought about what soccer is. This day, the teacher told us we 
will be playing soccer not huge rides. Everyone seemed to know soccer and they had smiles 
on their faces that reached to their ears but at least I wasn’t. I was the only one with his lips 
sticking out and full of disappointment on his face. ….. 

C Car Accident  
          5th grade, the best and most exciting day of the week was Friday. On Fridays, my 
TaeKwonDo hagwon offered play times and recreations. With my mind fulfilled with 
excitement, I was waiting riding on my kickboard for the traffic light to turn green calmly and 
quietly though. When the traffic signal for cars had turned red and the traffic signal for people 
had turned green, all the tires were slowing down, and soon all the tires had stopped. 
Checking my right and left sides for safety, crossing the crosswalk seemed perfectly fine and 
safe. Now, the only thing that I had in my mind was to get to TaeKwonDo fast as I can. 
Tasting the asphalt ground with my left foot, I felt the day was the day of fast kickboarding. I 
kicked the ground smoothly but still strongly, the kickboard and myself were traveling the 
crosswalk like a feather falling down. Suddenly, a taxi hit me right in the belly. At the moment, 
everything seemed to stop for few seconds. I felt nothing. Not even my breath, and my five 
senses seemed to be dead. Few seconds later, I flew away with high speed. I tumbled 2 to 3 
times, and laid still like a dead man. I couldn’t feel the pain. I tried to get up, but my legs were 
shaking hard­core that I fell down. I could see many people and my friends go by and ask me 
if I’m okay. My dad had arrived after a while, I was just blinking my eyes, without any feelings 
and was sent to the hospital. 

D Dream 
           I dream all kinds of dreams. They can be literally anything. These Days, I have 
nightmares. They really get me frightened and I don’t like it. I feel like it is going to happen 

sometime in my life. Usually in my bathroom, I feel really weird, but all those things are cured 
by a single happy dream.  

E English  
            English is my second language. When I first tried to speak it, my tongue would twist. 
Also, my face had crumbled into a ugly face slowly. First time to speak English was when I 
first got to Canada. When I had finally arrived, I couldn’t see and think properly because my 
senses got numb from the flight. Even though there were some ups and downs in Canada, I 
had some what learned English and came to this school with other anxious and excited 
emotions. 

F Fried Chicken 
We Koreans, call chickens, god chickens. The reason behind the name is the taste of 
chicken. When a chicken piece goes into our mouths and bite it, it makes a crispy sound, 
sometimes with a juice coming out of it which flows in the mouth between teeth and tongues. 
By the way, my favorite chicken is fried chicken. It’s the chicken that you can make it to swim 
in the oceans of various sauces. While vacations, I would have chicken 2 per a week but I 
can’t now because of school. I miss the vacation. 

G Girls 
           I think there aren’t two genders, male and female, but two types of species, Male and 
Female. Girls are so hard to understand. They don’t know what they want to eat, what to do, 
where to go, and what to buy, but are always whining of what they want. That drives me 
crazy. 

H HIghschool 
All the times before I finally got to highschool, I always was afraid and frightened of high 
school by its atmosphere of heaviness sort of feeling and pressure. When I was 8th grade, I 
came to highschool to play soccer for the middle school soccer team. When walking by the 
bridge to get to highschool, I always was try to behave decently and gently because I thought 
the teachers and high schoolers might see me. Walking down the stairs to get to the field was 
really nervousing and heavy. Nowadays, the stairs are not as nervousing but still heavy. Also, 
it feels extremely comfortable in highschool then what I’ve thought before how it is going to be 
like. 

I Iron Man 
Iron Man is a Marvel hero and I would like to be a hero. The reason why I like Iron Man is 
because he created the suit by himself. It is not superpower but his ability. I tried to make a 
suit for myself but when I tried, my hands were not ready for it. They would shuffle and dance 
around and I gave up. 

J Jisoo 
           Jisoo is my Korean name that my grandfather gave me. In chinese letters, Ji means 
wisdom and Soo means superior, beyond others. Myself is not that wise and superior, but 
still, I’m Jisso. Also, Jisoo is a girl name. I personal think Jisoo is a tough­guy name, but other 
people think the name is girlish or something. When I was a little child, I hated being teased 
for my name being girlish. With two little fists holding tight, I punch the ones who teased me 
right in the stomach. They usually cried and the teacher blamed me and I cried too. These 

days, I think my name Jisoo is pretty legit and nice. 

K KISAC 
            The KISAC tournament is a humongous event for student athletes in international 
schools. Last year, with a concept of celebration of opening the high school, our school, KIS 
held the KISAC soccer tournament for middle schoolers on high school. The tournament 
occurred on Saturday. Many people had come to watch us play and other teams from various 
schools came too to play. It is called KISAC tournament and there are many teams, but for 
KIS team, it was more like a game of KIS and NLCS. First game was held in the morning. My 
body felt numb so I had to stretch my arms and legs. By doing so, I felt my leg is good today. 
Shaking and stretching was really powerful that I could imagine how fast I might be able to 
shoot that day. Until the semi finals, with a loss to NLCS, we smoothly had beaten other 
teams. With a golden goal right after a whistle to start off the game, we shifted to the finals. 
Everyone had injuries and rashes, but everyone was remaining still and hard. NLCS won the 
other team to get to the finals after losing to us, and the finals had started. With everyone 
playing the finals with mentality, we won.  

L League of Legends 
           I have nothing for the letter L so I’m writing about League of Legends. To shorten the 
name, I will call it LOL which the same as laugh out loud. Currently, my rank is Platinum, but it 
was not easy as anyone thinks. i started the game about 3 years ago. It was really hard to 
play and I didn’t even have a single clue about how to be good at LOL. Currently, it is the fifth 
season of League of Legends and I started playing from the late second season. The third 
season, I got to be a Bronze and I hated it. For example, I was so mad that I punched my 
macbook like a Thor and it sounded like a shotgun. With my mental going up and down, I 
finally got to Platinum. When the window saying I’m Platinum, I screamed, yelled, laughed, 
and shouted of joy. I almost fainted because I lacked oxygen by the disasters that I made. I 
almost got to Diamond, but I failed. And, my mental broke and I’m almost about to get down 
to the deadly Gold. LOL is a nice game, by the way. 

M Money 
          Money is a good thing. I don’t know if it is a good thing or not, but i love the smell of 
money. When I get money, I usually save it and that is maybe the reason why there is so 
much dangling cash papers in my room.  

N Negativity 
           Sometimes, I really get negative. You really should not touch me when I look down. 
Just look at my face or the way of me talking. When I’m negative, I won’t really look happy, 
and I will sigh a lot. That is the end line of my volcano erupting and destroying the 
surroundings. Please don’t touch me when I look negative. 

O Old School 
       After years had passed, I missed my elementary school that I never even had the chance 
to graduate. I visited the school and it was the same as before. It was 78 years old then, and 
the school still had the same old teachers and same old smells, feelings, and atmosphere. By 
walking to each stairs and meeting buddies and teachers, without noticing, I felt my eyes 
become watery. When I tried to get to 2nd floor, there were friends and juniors welcoming as 

warmly as my parents. Visiting old school was warm and comfortable. By walking up to the 
roof of the building, my eyes weren’t just becoming watery, but started creating a fountain of 
tears. Visiting elementary school, was heartwarming.  

P Pokemon 
          Pokemons are great. They gave me happy memories and they are still on TV!! When I 
used to whine and cry to my parents to buy me toys, I usually would want Pokemons. Right 
after they bought me, 3/10 broke because I would throw them to the ground with a spell. “Go! 
Pokemon!” When they break, I fall to the ground and cry as loud as I can so that they will 
have sympathy for me and buy me a new one.   

Q Quiz 
          I really hate quizzes. They are just disgusting. When I have quizzes in front of me, 
usually my head becomes blank like my Korean textbook. Nowadays I don’t cry, but before I 
used to swear when I have bad grades. 

R Ronaldo 
           Ronaldo is like the best player of the world. He scores goals like a machine gun. Many 
people imitate his ceremony when he scores. When you lend not right while the ceremony, 
you will automatically injure your foot. When I loved to watch soccer games, if I was watching 
a Ronaldo game, I would have a happy face and be amused by how he would dribble and 
score goals.  

S Space 
          Space is known as the space that is expanding and expanding. I love to talk about 
space and how the world is created. When I talk about space and about the world, my mouth 
moves faster and my eyes become larger with excitement. Space is really unknown like how I 
don’t really know about myself. 

T TaeKwonDo 
           I love TaeKwonDo. The best thing about it is that you get to laugh and be joyful when 
you are tired. When I first started TaeKwonDo, I was in 2th grade. Started it with a white belt, 
still never leaving it with a black belt. From white belt to red belt, it took me a year. Even 
though red belt is not considered that high, but a year of TaeKwonDo gave me tons and tons 
of morals and lessons. The beginning of that year, when I tripped and fell to the ground with a 
boom sound, I sit somewhere at a corner, and create a little pond there. Also, when I had a 
fight with another kid, I usually punched them right in the face and be teasing him/her. After 
that one year, I realised I had stopped all that. After some time passed, I had to go to a place 
called “Kukkiwon.” This place is where I had to go to earn next ranks. When I first got into the 
building, the first thing I saw was that the inside looked like a sports stadium. The matches 
and tests gave me some bruises, and pride as well. By going to Kukkiwon several times, I 
finally got to third rank of black belt.   
 

U Universe 
 

V Victory 

           Victory is almost always nice. Whenever I am victorious, especially when it gets me 
really happy, I’d have a smile that is reaching to my ears. Isn’t that same for anyone? I love to 
win, and when I lose, I’d have a mouth that is reaching my chin. Award me with a victory, 
that’ll make my day. 

W Writing 
         I like to write. This is not to look good to a writing teacher or anything. I like to write 
because it allows me to express my situation. For me, writing is a simulation and a tool for 
imagination without videos, but makes readers to create a video. The only thing that matter 
when I write is that I must be willing to write it. My hands literally shake and I get a headache 
when I write without a reason or motivation. I just hate it and i really don’t know why. It feels 
like my liquid used to digest is boiling hard­core. Also, I’m a slow writer and I also hate when 
people tell me to write faster. I’ve tried before, but I have too much thoughts and too much 
sentences when I try to write a sentence. Therefore, I’m a person who takes hours or days to 
create an introduction. Others may think this is not efficient and is a good way, but I’m used to 
this and I won’t fix it. I like essays than anything.

Z Zoo 
           I am a coward when the topic becomes to flying animals or insects. For example, I fell 
down to the ground and laid down for a second when a bird fly by me. Also, I can’t walk near 
birds because I'm so frightened. When I went to the zoo, there were many animals and I was 
sort of frightened but excited. There was a place where there were many birds and you go 
inside and give them breads. Somebody pushed me inside that cage..I don’t know who but if I 
catch him/her, I will destroy, When I got inside, I almost ruined my pants. The birds looked so 
scary, they flew by me, above me, and under me. I just threw the bread pieces away and 
went out of the cage. Until now, I’m still safraid of birds.
