Although dretches are children of the plane of the Abyss, they are among the weakest of all their kind. Even in their own realm, these self-loathing demons are treated as pathetic and repulsive, and are doomed to spend eternity in perpetual discontent. In the hope of making their lives more bearable, they spend their time tormenting manes and visitors of the Abyss when they’re not squabbling among themselves. DC 15 Arcana: Mindless Slaves. Dretches are bullied and enslaved by most of the higher demons. Even then, their low intelligence makes them unsuitable for anything but the simplest of tasks, which in turn feeds the contempt of the other demons even more. Its only when gathered in mobs that the dretches are able to stand by themselves and voice their displeasure towards their station and their treatment. DC 15 Nature: Mob Mentality. Dretches are weak demons that depend on sheer numbers to overcome foes. When they have no other choice but to fight or are threatened by powerful demons, they immediately summon other dretches to improve their odds in battle. When no one can back them up or when all their summons failed, they flee for their lives. Bloated Dretch Bloated dretches hate themselves with a passion, to the point where their self-loathe changed them and transformed them into living bombs. Their bodies are swollen, full of gas and ready to blow up at any aggravation. Dretch HORDE A dretch horde is a swarm of dretches that gather to feel empowered and topple foes stronger than they are. Encounter Groups Coming soon... Tactics A dretch can: • Summon other dretches; • Incapacitate a creature with its smell. Bloated Dretch During Combat. The bloated dretch gets close to a creature to use its Bite and Claws attacks and wait to be killed to unleash its Fetid Burst — a bloated dretch should go down with 1 hit. Dretch During Combat. The dretch surrounds a creature with other dretches to incapacitate it with its Fetid Stench trait, and slowly hurts it with its Multiattack in the meantime. When the dretch is alone or isolated, it tries to use its Summon Demon action to summon another dretch. Dretch Herder During Combat. The dretch horde tries to get as many foes in its space as it can to incapacitate them with its Fetid Stench. When the horde is damaged, it sacrifices part of its action to use its Summon Demon and regain hit points.

Harvesting a creature lets you acquire raw materials that contain some of the creature’s abilities. Each item requires a successful check to be harvested. Crafting Rules. Most of these harvested materials must be refined through crafting. Crafting can be done with a full week work by a creature that meets the requirement. The cost for crafting an item is half its original price. Fetid Stench x1 The stench of a dretch. Can be put into a vial for future use as a Vial of Fetid Stench*. The stench dissipates after an hour. • Harvest Check. DC 10 INT (Survival) Fetid Stench (Vial) Wondrous item, rare 320 gp As an action, you can throw the vial at a point up to 30 feet away, shattering on impact. Each creature within a 10-foot radius must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or be incapacitated until the start of its next turn. When the dretch is insulted in abyssal, it must succeed on a DC 9 Wisdom saving throw or be reduced to 0 hit points. Fetid Burst. The bloated dretch explodes when it drops to 0 hit points. Each creature within 20 feet of it must make a DC 11 Constitution saving throw, taking 5 (2d4) poison damage and being incapacitated until the end of their next turn, or take half as much damage on a successful save and not be incapacitated. Actions Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d6) piercing damage. Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (2d4) slashing damage. Reactions Sacrificial Fodder. When a demon with a greater CR than the dretch and within a 5 feet radius of it is about to be hit, it may command the dretch — via speech or telepathy — to intercept the attack. The dretch then takes the attack in the demon’s stead. Shared Demonic Trait: Spawn of the Abyss All demons share the following trait: Spawn of the Abyss. If the demon is killed on the Abyss, it dies. If the creature is next to 4 dretches or more, it makes its save with disadvantage. Actions Multiattack. The dretch makes two attacks: one with its Bite and one with its Claws. Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 3 (1d6) piercing damage. Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (2d4) slashing damage. Summon Demon (2nd Level Spell, 1/Day). The dretch attempts a summoning and makes a DC 15 Wisdom check. On a successful check, a summoned dretch appears in a random unoccupied space within 30 feet of its summoner and acts as an ally of its summoner. It remains for l minute or until it or its summoner dies. Reactions Sacrificial Fodder. When a demon with a greater CR than the dretch and within a 5 feet radius of it is about to be hit, it may command the dretch — via speech or telepathy — to intercept the attack. The horde can occupy another creature’s space and vice versa, and the horde can move through any opening large enough for a small dretch. The horde can’t regain hit points or gain temporary hit points. Fetid Stench of the Swarm. When a creature starts its turn within the same space as the horde, it must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be incapacitated until the start of its next turn. Actions Multiattack. The horde makes two attacks: one with its Claws and one with its Bite. Alternatively, it makes one attack with its Bite and uses its Summon Demon. Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, every creature in the horde’s space. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage, or 2 (1d4 + 2) piercing damage if the horde has half of its hit points or fewer. Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, every creature in the horde’s space. Hit: 7 (2d6) slashing damage, or 3 (1d6) slashing damage if the horde has half of its hit points or fewer. Summon Demon (2nd Level Spell). The dretch attempts a summoning and makes a DC 15 Wisdom check. On a successful check, a new dretch joins the ranks of the horde, and the horde regains 10 hit points. Reactions Sacrificial Fodder. When a demon with a greater CR than the horde and within a 5 feet radius of it is about to be hit, it may command one of the dretches — via speech or telepathy — to intercept the attack.
