It can only go from being an actual mountain to a mountain mimic hybrid, but that's all it needs. Laying dormant for thousands of years at a time, this monstrosity exists as a simple landmark until some band of adventures or villagers eventually finds the entrance to its dungeon insides. Creatures who enter it are deceived into believing they are in a relatively easy area. Most walk through with little effort, not knowing their fate of casting doom upon themselves and countless others. When dungeon delvers inevitably open the chest in the final room, mimic mountain turns from being a harmless landmark into a creature of destruction which can only be paralleled by the legendary Tarrasque. It opens up its maw and devours any civilization that may have developed or settled on it while dormant, entire cultures erased in an instant. Mimic mountain can only be sated by eating its body weight in meat. It screams for it, and all monsters that can hear this scream kill anything they come across to bring mimic mountain sustenance. Monsters acting in this way ignore everything around them if they already have a kill to bring, making a bee line for the mountain. Countless towns get massacred, entire forests get cleaned out, and the skies are plucked clean to feed this creature. Once it is full, it naturally goes back to being a mountain, awaiting the times where it has been forgotten, and foolishly reawakened. A dropped monster must made a DC 18 acrobatics check. On a fail, the creature is swallowed successfully. If the mimic is awoken, it will produce a scream loud enough for a continent to hear it until it is interrupted. All monsters that hear it are immediately charmed and find and kill whatever they can to go serve as food for mimic mountain. When the scream finally stops, whether because of death, being distracted by battle, or any other reason, all creatures that were charmed return to where they were when first put under the effect, and go back to what they were doing. Affected creatures have no recollection of being controlled. Lair and Lair Actions Regional Effects The region containing mimic mountain is influenced by its scream, which creates one or more of the following effects: All monsters are charmed by mimic mountain and act only to bring it food. If mimic mountain is silenced, this effect ends and all creatures return to where they were when initially affected without registering anything on the way back.
