Collection_ Dinosaurs - The Homebrewery

D Collection: Dinosaurs inosaurs are the primitive life forms that predate any other animal, and despite their age, some places in the world are still inhabited by these lizard-like creatures. Dinosaurs can terrorize towns and wreak destruction, but some are tame enough to be considered cattle instead. Druids, rangers and other inhabitants of natural areas may consider a dinosaur their companion, or use their imposing forms as inspiration for transformations. This collection offers another set of dinosaurs that were not included in the Monster Manual. Disclaimer: I am not a professional paleobiologist or paleontologist. The dinosaurs represented here are for use in a 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons game and are not meant to be perfect renditions of their real-life counterparts. Mistakes will be made. "True" Dinosaurs The dinosaurs described in this collection are members of the clade Dinosauria and are scientifically considered to be dinosaurs. The "true" dinosaurs described in this collection are: baryonyx, carnotaurus, coelophysis, compsognathus, giganotosaurus, ornithomimus, pachycephalosaurus, parasaurolophus, and spinosaurus. "Non-true" dinosaurs will be expanded on in a later collection. Baryonyx Baryonyx is a theropod dinosaur (like Tyrannosaurus, raptors, and modern birds) with a crocodilian maw that is closely related to spinosaurus. It hunts fish and lives in areas with waters where food is plentiful, such as marshes or surrounding lakes or rivers. Baryonyx can swim, although it is faster on land. An adult baryonyx grows to up to 25 feet long, with the tail comprising nearly half of its length, and up to 8 feet tall at the hip. It can be territorial and is capable of defending itself with its teeth, as well as its elongated first claw, which can grow up to a foot long. Baryonyx are solitary, and only meet with others of their kind during mating season, but can coexist with other water-dwelling creatures or semiaquatic dinosaurs that aren't other baryonyx. Carnotaurus Carnotaurus is another theropod dinosaur characterized by its short maw, small forelimbs and horn-like protusions above its eyes. Carnotaurus are carnivorous dinosaurs that hunt anything from large to small prey, and have a strongly developed sense of smell that they use to find their prey. They Image art by Daniel on Adobe Stock are some of the fastest among the theropod dinosaurs, as their speed is augmented by their strong back legs. Carnotaurus can grow up to 25 feet long and 7 feet tall. The horns above their eye sockets are used for fighting and territorial disputes among carnotaurus, in the same way that male deer use their antlers to fight, as well as a distinguishing feature in mating displays and recognition between carnotaurus. 1 Baryonyx Huge beast, unaligned Armor Class 13 (natural armor) Hit Points 127 (15d12 + 30) Speed 40 ft., swim 25 ft. Coelophysis Coelophysis are long-tailed theropod dinosaurs that grow to about the size of a large dog, though much longer. These small, raptor-like dinosaurs hunt in packs and prey on smaller animals, although a large number of coelophysis can also collectively hunt larger prey. They are particularly fast and agile, aided by their smaller size, and use their excellent perception not only for hunting but also to avoid becoming the prey of a larger predator. They grow to about 8 to 10 feet long due to their elongated tail, and between 3 and 4 feet high at the hips. Compsognathus Compsognathus, also known as "compies" , are small, birdsized theropod dinosaurs that travel in packs and are considered one of the smallest among the dinosaurs. An adult compy reaches no more than 5 feet in length, with a hip height of about 1 foot. even stronger resemblance with emus or ostriches. They are omnivorous, and feed primarily on seeds, plants, insects and small mammals. Ornithomimus' great perception allows it to escape predators with lightning-fast reflexes. Some ornithomimus have been domesticated, and their size allows for riding or functioning as a beast of burden. Pachycephalosaurus Pachycephalosaurus, colloquially known as pachies, are known for their thick, dome-shaped skull surrounded by blunt bone-like protusions. Pachies are two-legged herbivores, feeding on plant material and berries, and grow to about 15 feet long and a little over 5 feet high at the hips. Pachies are territorial animals who use their thick skull and bony "crown" to butt each other's flanks in a display of strength and intimidation. Pachies live in herds, with one male and multiple females, which all defend the territory if necessary. Young male pachies that have been kicked out of their herd form bands, which may challenge herd-leading male pachies to a headbutting competition in which the winner gains the territory and the herd of females, much like lions or horses. Parasaurolophus Parasaurolophus is a subspecies of the hadrosaurids, a group of semi-quadrupedal, herbivorious dinosaurs that could both walk on four and two legs. Parasaurolophus stands apart from other hadrosaurids like edmontosaurus by its extensive, colorful head crest. The crest, which is hollow, is used by the dinosaur to create sounds below the audible frequency a predator can hear - effectively using it as a trumpet - to warn Image art from extinctanimals.com other parasaurolophus in its herd that danger is coming. The crests are also used in mating rituals, and the colorful designs differ from one parasaurolophus to another, which allows them to tell each other apart. When running from predators, parasaurolophus uses its strong back feet to propel itself, while its front legs remain tucked close to the body. A grazing parasaurolophus uses its front feet to rest on, distributing body weight among all four limbs. The power of a parasaurolophus' back legs allows it to be ridden, and their docile temperament makes them suitable for domestication. Spinosaurus The largest of the theropods, spinosaurus is a semi-aquatic, long-limbed and long-muzzled predator which is identified by the long spines that it carries on its back, connected to each other with a high but narrow sail. Its length and the height of its sail put it beyond T. Rex's size, aided by the length of its snout and the flat, paddle-shaped tail. Spinosaurus likes water, and it is found most often near rivers, lakes, shores and mangroves. It feeds on fish and other aquatic prey that it can find, but a spinosaurus will not refuse warm-blooded prey if it can hunt it. Their teeth are made for catching fish, but they can deliver a strong, crushing bite, and each of their forelimbs carry three claws, the first of which is extended and thick - made for slashing. Spinosaurus' adaptation to living in water also made it one of the fastest (semi-)aquatic dinosaurs ever. 4 GHAHS2SSLCPAMobBotagthcTo2: | | --..
