The Order of the Antagonist A Blood Hunter Archetype created by Christopher Buza

Author's Note This class option was designed for and inspired by the Blood Hunter class originally created by Matthew Mercer. I want to acknowledge his work and thank him for the countless hours of entertainment he’s brought me, both as a player of a Blood Hunter PC and as a viewer of Critical Role. His original class, which is vital to both the mechanics and flavor of this class, can be found here: http://www.dmsguild.com/product/170777/Blood-HunterClass Order of the Antagonist Though their membership may not always be apparent to onlookers, members of the Order of the Antagonist are sure to make themselves visible and audible. While other orders operate in as much secrecy as possible, the Order of the Antagonist embraces the power of social manipulation and mob mentality as tools against the foul creatures of this world. And while a lone blood hunter may be a dangerous opponent, members of this order know that a blood hunter surrounded by close companions—or a crowd of angry villagers—is an even more potent force. Outsiders, when first exposed to its existence, may view the Order of the Antagonist as an obstinate, unyielding band of tyrannical zealots. Internally, this order views themselves as the purest embodiment of opposition to the unnatural evils of the world. Willful Rite You know that the power of your crimson rite has more uses than merely hacking away at monstrosities; what average villager can question the call-to-action from an imposing figure wielding a flaming sword? Beginning at 3rd level and while your crimson rite is active, you are considered proficient in Deception, Intimidation, and Persuasion. If you are already proficient with any of these three skills, your proficiency bonus for that skill is doubled while your crimson rite is active. Crowd Manipulator When you reach 3rd level, you learn to manipulate the public into aiding your hunts, especially in dire straits. Using a bonus action, you can cast charm person as a 1st level spell. The DC for this spell’s saving throw is 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier. If you cast charm person using this feature on a non-hostile creature while you are fighting a hostile creature, the target has disadvantage on the associated spell saving throw. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1). You regain all uses of this feature after a long rest. Starting at 7th level, you cast charm person as a 2nd level spell when using this feature. Starting at 15th level, you cast charm person as a 3rd level spell when using this feature. Infectious Zeal Beginning at 7th level, you can sacrifice your own vitality further to inspire the bloodthirsty nature of those around you. When you deal crimson rite damage to a creature, you can take damage equal to your crimson rite damage die to grant one creature within 15 feet of you advantage on its next attack. The damage you take from the use of this feature cannot be reduced in any way. Miasmic Obstinacy Starting at 10th level and while your crimson rite is active, your obstinate drive seeps out of your body and into those around you. Whenever a hostile creature targets you or a friendly creature within 10 feet of you with a charm effect, that hostile creature takes psychic damage equal to your crimson rite damage die plus your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1) before the target of the charm effect makes a saving throw. Unswayable Starting at 15th level, your force of will reaches new and unprecedented heights. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for Wisdom saving throws. Additionally, if an effect would have you make a Charisma saving throw, you can choose to instead make a Wisdom saving throw to resist the effect. Oppressive Will Starting at 17th level, your steadfastness against the dark courses through every fiber of your being. Your crimson rite ignores damage resistance and deals additional damage equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1). These effects do not apply to the self-inflicted damage caused by any of your Blood Hunter class features.
