Aasimar 1 AASIMAR Children of Angels Introduction: Descended from celestial beings, the Aasimar are gifted with unique angelic powers. They function as a divine mirror to the infernal Tieflings. This document updates the Aasimar (also called the Deva) for use in 5th edition D&D. I have adapted what can be found in the Dungeon Master’s Guide (page 286) and added more background information. Aasimar 2 AASIMAR “… the orc chief raised his ax, and suddenly a bright light appeared between him and me. A spear came from somewhere at hit the chief full in the chest, killing him in a moment. A woman with glowing blue eyes walked up to me, healed me without a word, and retrieved her spear. I never saw the like again.” —Overheard in the Green Eel tavern. Whereas tieflings have fiendish blood in their veins, aasimar are the descendants of celestial beings. Also called deva, they are easy to trust and often work into places of power in most communities. Aasimar are very rare, as their blood is used in many dark rituals. As such, they often try to pass as human and strive to fit in to normal society, although due to their nature they often rise to the top. Alabaster Form Physically aasimar are very similar to humans, but with unnaturally colored skin, hair, and pupil-less glowing eyes. These folk generally appear as glorious humans with lustrous hair, flawless skin, and piercing eyes. Their flesh and hair are completely smooth, their skin being described even as chalky. The main striking difference between aasimar and humans or elves are their eyes: solid, snow-white orbs that emits a faint light, like the sun shining through a thin cloud. Oddly, they also have 4 fewer teeth than humans, missing both top and bottom incisors. The Pressure of Heritage Like tieflings, aasimar are the decedents of extra-planar beings. This kind of heritage imparts a certain pressure toward alignment. Most tieflings resent the biases they receive due to their heritage, but aasimar typically strive to live up to it. However, this does not mean that all aasimar are lawful or good. Just like any other sentient creature, they are a product of their heritage but are not controlled by it. The Stuff of Legend Aasimar are few and far between, both because it is rare for a celestial being to assist in the process that leads to both aasimar and tieflings, and because deva blood and sacrifice is used heavily in demonic rituals. Another thing that leads to fewer numbers of aasimar in the world is the fact that many deva feel pressured to become heroes. Their celestial heritage leads most aasimar to align more along the lines of good and lawfulness than other lifestyles, and these choices often lead to a dangerous, honor-bound life. It is not uncommon to find the corpses of deva along with other dead adventurers. Deva are also very likely to enter into battles of honor or principle. They will stand up to defend allies and causes without regard to their own lives. Aasimar Names Aasimar usually share the same names with humans, but there are some names with special meaning to the oldest deva bloodlines. Male Aasimar Names: Michaelus, Angelo, Angelus, Ceterus, Raphaelus, and Leonardus. Female Aasimar Names: Chevela, Maria, Adria, Malia, and Seheris. Aasimar Traits Aasimar share the following traits due to their celestial ancestry. Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1, and your Charisma score increases by 2. Age. Deva mature at the same rate as humans, but live a little longer. Alignment. Due to their celestial heritage, aasimar are often good. However, some deva fall into evil, rejecting their heritage. Good or not, a rule-following nature and belief in fairness leads to a lawful lifestyle.
