Tiefling (Tiamat) Just like most other archdevils, the Queen of Chromatic Dragons also has tieflings whose origin can be traced back to her. These are usually born from cultists favored by Tiamat, or can be the result of bargains with devils in her service, such as abishai. For this reason, they are often referred to as “abishai tieflings” . Chromatic Heritage Tiamat’s legacy manifests not only in her tieflings’ innate magic, but also in their physiology: While they usually still have a tiefling’s distinctive combination of horns, tail, and oddly-colored eyes, these features are also complemented by tough scales similar to those of a dragon, which cover most of the tiefling’s body. In some cases, their horns also appear more reminiscent of a chromatic dragon’s than a devil’s. Their unusual appearance sets abishai tieflings apart from other tieflings, which sometimes opens up new ways to deal with the discrimination that is the burden of their infernal heritage. Some abishai tieflings claim to be half-dragons rather than tieflings –– indeed, an abishai tiefling who remains ignorant of the circumstances of their birth might even make such a claim out of genuine belief. Alternatively, those who come into contact with a cult worshipping Tiamat or chromatic dragons might end up joining its ranks, assuming a privileged position as one who is blessed by the goddess. Abishai Tiefling Traits You have the following traits in addition to your ability score increases and languages. Creature Type. You are a Humanoid. Size. You are Medium or Small (choose when you select this race). Speed. You have a walking speed of 30 feet. Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness as shades of gray. Fire Resistance. You have resistance to fire damage. Chromatic Legacy. You have an extraordinary affinity with chromatic dragons of a particular color. You choose this affinity from the Chromatic Legacy table, which specifies the benefits you gain from this trait. At 1st level, you learn a cantrip. When you cast this cantrip, you can choose to cast it from your mouth like a breath weapon, allowing you to ignore its somatic component. At 3rd level, you gain an additional benefit. Starting at 5th level, you can cast a 2nd-level spell with this trait. Once you cast it with this trait, you can’t cast it this way again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have of 2nd level or higher. Your spellcasting ability for any spell you cast with this trait is Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma (choose when you select this race). Natural Armor. Your skin is covered with draconic scales. When you aren’t wearing armor, your base AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC.
