Candy Dragonborn - The Homebrewery

Candy Dragonborn - The Homebrewery

D eep within the lands of the Feywild, lives a rather mystical foe… One remarkable specimen of the draconic kind, with a body composed entirely of all kinds of sweets. While no one truly knows how it came about, or for how long it has inhabited the realm of magic and chaos, many adventurers claim to have lost their fair share of battles to this so-called Candy Dragon. And as if its mere existence wasn’t already enough of an anomaly, the outcome of a few of these encounters seem to have been even less predictable… Shaped by the sweetest magic in existence, a new variant of the Dragonborn has graced the ever-spanning multiverse. Armed with a ridiculously unique physiology and the terrifying, devastating power... of Too. Much. Sugar. A singularly bizarre, fey-touched version of your regular dragonborn. With a body entirely made of... sweets...? Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma, Constitution, and Wisdom scores each increase by 1. Age. Young dragonborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. While normally they live to be around 80, no one can really tell for how long your body will last. Could be a few decades, maybe a few centuries. Truly, your expiration date is a mystery of its own. Alignment. Your deep, innate connection to the Feywild exerts a definite influence on your being. Members of your race tend towards Chaotic alignments. Size. While you are about as tall as your traditional brethren, your weight definitely falls on the lighter side. You stand over 6 feet tall and average about 100 pounds. Your size is Medium. Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet. Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Draconic and Sylvan. Pastry Nature. Instead of flesh and bone like other members of your kind, your body is somehow fully made of living elemental confectionery. This bizarre physiology grants you resistance to non-magical bludgeoning, slashing or piercing damage (your choice). You may change that choice after a short or long rest. Starting from 5th level, as a bonus action, you can expend one of your available hit dice to give yourself resistance to non-magical bludgeoning, slashing and piercing damage until the start of your next turn. Living Candy. Along with your unique anatomy, you have an even more unique energy signature. Your creature type is humanoid, but you register as elemental and fey to spells and other effects that detect the presence of the elemental or fey creature types. The Sweetest Magic. You know the Prestidigitation cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Color Spray spell once as a 2nd-level spell. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Nathair's Mischief spell once. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells, and you must finish a long rest to cast them again with this trait. In addition, any spells you cast that have visible effects take on the appearance of candies and baked sweets. Even your spells that don't have visible effects tend to smell like different pastries. This does not make your spells provide nourishment like regular food.

Caramel Breath. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can forgo one of your attacks to exhale a wave of scalding hot syrup that splashes forth on a 15-foot cone in front of you. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). A creature takes 1d4 fire damage and 1d4 acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The damage dice increase to d6s at 6th level, d8s at 11th level, and d10s at 16th level. In addition, a target that fails their save is completely covered in syrup, having their speed reduced by 20 feet until the end of their next turn, or until they use an action to wipe it off from their body. After using your breath weapon, you cannot use it again until you complete a short or long rest. Candyborn Variant If you’d like to use the features listed in this document for your character, but without being tied to the draconic aspect of it, then you might prefer to reflavour this race as a simple Candyborn: a being made of living sweets created through a wild magic surge in the fey realm. Any other details particular to your existence can be left to yours and the DM’s discretion. Snack Buffet. Saying that you look delicious doesn’t do it justice, and sometimes even you feel like taking a bite or two. As an action, you can expend one or more of your available hit dice to cast the Goodberry spell without expending a spell slot, and without material components. When casting it in this way, the number of treats created is equal to the amount of hit dice expended. You regain the ability to use this trait when you finish a long rest.
