During the recently concluded PPLSSS and FSS management committee meetings at Trichy, we have arrived at some important decisions which are as follows: - 1. To form a Defamation cell under PPLSSS to lodge criminal defamation cases against those who are publishing (or) broadcasting false and defamatory news/ articles/ posts in social media, against individual member doctors (or) hospitals without any tangible evidence. State President, State Secretary, PPLSSS Chairman, PPLSS secretary, PPLSSS Legal Chairman and advocates of PPLSSS should be the members of the cell. The guidelines for the cell are to be framed. 2. Five doctors who are well versed with medico-legal cases are to be nominated as members of PPLSSS legal committee under the Chairmanship of Dr.K.Thangamuthu who will impart adequate training and provide teaching materials to the members. 3. April 2023 will be observed as “FSS month” to promote FSS membership. During that FSS month, branches are requested to invite FSS managing committee members for the monthly meeting and motivate their members to join FSS by Distributing FSS promotional pamphlets and application forms to the members. 4. In order to bring more members to FSS, young doctors below the age of 35 will be encouraged to join FSS by paying only 50% of AFC for 10 years with Rs.3,000 as NRD. After 10 years they will pay full AFC as fixed. During the interregnum their family will be given a full death fraternity contribution of Rs.18 Lakhs in the unlikely event of member’s demise. It was duly approved by MCM and AGM of FSS. 5. Five marks shall be awarded to the branches for enrolling one percent of FSS membership of the branch. One mark shall be added for each additional member enrolled. So, my dear leaders and officer bearers of the local branches, kindly enroll more members for FSS and PPLSSS. It was very useful and interactive, wherein got to study and know the various welfare schemes for our members in other states. I’ve requested our Hony. Secretary General to share a copy of all the schemes in all the states to study viability in ours. February 2023 TIMA News Letter 04 I have attended the Marthandam branch installation ceremony where Dr. Stephen and his team of office bearers had taken over the office. Our National President Elect Dr. Ahokan Sir were in the ceremony, had a lot of discussions during our travel and learnt a lot again. The unity and bonhomie of the Marthandam branch that has given us two National Presidents is amazing and we should try to emulate them. For the first time, we had the Internal Audit for the State Office in Theni and have been given the report to submit in our FSC. We, from the State Office have our monthly audit by our Auditor wherein all our bills and vouchers cheque books and all accounts are verified and duly signed also. Our Internal Audit committee has given some recommendations, which will be implemented after passing in the FSC. Attended the State Paramedical south zone meeting in Madurai, organized by the Madurai branch in a splendid way with a lot of participation from all the Paramedical Institutes. We attended the Installation of the IMA Tuticorin and Tirunelveli office bearers, led by Dr. Marimuthu and Dr. Sivasailam in Tuticorin and Dr. Subramanian and Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim in Tirunelveli, both organized very well and had a lot participation, have to thank them all for the love and affection all the way. Took part in the Salem IMA installation ceremony, as usual good participation and also had the Pongal celebrations led by Dr. K. Prakasam Sir. We had a hectic two days in Trichy with the Constitutional amendment committee meeting will be forming the bylaws for the branch level soon and will be sent for circulation and will be adopted after due process. Lot of committee meetings are happening over zoom and we are preparing for the leadership training programme in Chennai and the upcoming State Council Meeting in Madurai. I have visited Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Hosur, Salem, Rasipuram, Erode and Vellore IMA Branches and excited about many new people taking up assignments in IMA. Thank all the Members of the Women Doctors Wing for participating in various activities either it in awareness camp, addressing adolescent health issues, blood donation, reaching out to villages and kids club, social activities – the list is endless. Our Women Doctors Wing as a whole, won the National Award for “Best Wing” Dr. Gnanameenakshi and my received National Awards for the activities of our Wing. February 2023 TIMA News Letter 13 Theme: Sleep is Essential for Health Sleep Apnea is a common sleep disorder in practice apart from Insomnia. Sleep apnea comes under sleep disordered breathing (SDB). Sleep Disordered breathing is a spectrum of disorder ranging from snoring, upper airway resistance syndrome, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, obstructive sleep apnea and hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). The important symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, fatigue, tiredeness, head ache, nocturia, loss of libido etc. Diagnosis of sleep apnea is confirmed by sleep study (Polysomnography), Treatment consist of multi disciplinary which includes weight reduction, hormonal Dr. S. February 2023 TIMA News Letter 14 Sleep Health Tips Sleep is an important vital metabolic function like digestion, respiration and excretion. Sleep is one of the important pillars of health like food, exercise. An average adult requires 6 to 8 hours sleep. Ideal time for sleep is from 10 pm to 6 am because sleep hormone-melatonin secretes during darkness only. Following sleep schedule (going to bed at correct time and wake up at correct time) is an important sleep hygiene to promote good health. Food stuffs like coffee, tea and chocolate to be avoided after 4 pm to have a good sleep and avoidance of alcohol, tobacco smoke and sleeping pills. Early light dinner, milk and banana are good for sleep because it contains aminoacid tryptophan-sleep promoter. Exercises are important for good sleep to be performed in the morning or evening and avoid close to bed. Yoga (meditation, yoga nidra, pranayama and asanas), melodious music and reading books are good sleep promoters. Avoid electronic gadgets like mobile phones, TV, Computer and laptop etc. after 8 pm Keep Bedroom likecalm, cool and dark, this will promote good sleep. Above tips are sleep hygiene for good sleep.

Insurance – CMCHIC After continuous representations through IMA TNSB & NHB and meeting with the Project Director, Ministers and various officials regarding our grievances in CMCHIS, we received a copy of the letter from Dr. Uma, IAS, The Project Director, Tamilnadu Health System Project to Under Secretary to Government, Health and Family Welfare Department, Secretariat, Chennai, Letter Ref no : 0266/TNH 3P/ INS/ 2023, Date :13.01.2023 and they have taken our representation for consideration and we are expecting them to call us for the discussion soon. It’s great positive news for us in this New Year. We are hoping for the best. Minimum Wages As you know earlier in 2018 Government of Tamilnadu issued an order which is G.O (2D) NO: 24, dated – 02.03.2018, in which the government raised the Minimum wages of staffs by a huge margin. We from IMA & NHB opposed it and gave many representations to the Labour Minister and Officials. Later in 2019 as per the G.O (MS) no:116, Dated – 16.07.2019, the Government of Tamilnadu formed a committee to properly have discussions with the employee and employer representatives and advise the Government in respect of proper revision of Minimum rates of Wages for the employment in Hospitals and Nursing Homes. From NHB & TNSB we had enough representatives in the Committee and we have represented and gave our Memorandum continuously. With the cooperation of the representatives of the employers and the employees in the Committee, the proceedings of the committee were going on as scheduled with much understanding and we were about to come to the final decision.

In the meantime, the validity of the Committee has expired. After our continuous efforts from NHB & TNSB by meeting the Labour Officials and Minister now a new Committee has been formed and the proceedings are going on as per the GO. (D) No.506, dated – 17.10.2022. Though we are not having proper representation, we are closely in association with our employer representatives and closely watching the proceedings of this Committee. We are waiting for the Committee to take a final decision and give a final order. Kindly rest assured, we from NHB is always fighting for the benefit for our members. We heard from many of our Members that they are being asked by the Labour Officials, during their visit to the hospitals, whether any stay was gotten by NHB. We should clearly say that no Stay can be gotten in this situation and we are not for it also. ZOOM Meetings We continuously meet our District Coordinators and Office Bearers through zoom frequently to discuss about the current issues, which our members are facing, take up the issue and get them solutions. We discussed recently about “PROTECTION AND SAFE GUARDING THE INTEREST OF NURSES / PARAMEDICAL STAFF WORKING IN PRIVATE HOSPITALS “ were we are asked to give a representation to the government , from Nursing Council and Government side we got a representation with their requirement , for that we are going to give our reply from NHB soon. We will circulate about this soon to you all. And I request all the NHB Members who haven’t renewed their Membership to renew it at the earliest to get benefited. 128th West Zone Conference & 75th management Committee Meeting We successfully had our first Zonal Conference of NHB at Hosur on 19th February of this year. It was very well professionally organized conference. Members who have attended the conference were very much satisfied, and they said it was very much helpful for them. Members who haven’t attended I request you all to attend our Zonal Conferences and other activities of NHB in future, you can see our website www.imanhb.org for updates. The major topics discussed in the conference were Pharmacy, Bio medical waste management, Hospital- management, marketing, finance, GST and Income tax, Labour laws , Insurance . These were the current places we lack a lot, the eminent speakers really spoke very well and we had a healthy discussion after every session. And at the end of the conference we had our 75th Management Committee meeting. It was attended by 120 people with 0.5 Credit Hours. 2) IMA AMS Coimbatore branch conducted Gastroenterology update on 24.01.2023 at 3pm in IMA Hall coimbatore. The talk was given by Surgical Gastroenterologist,Dr.K.Senthilkumar on Dysphagia - 3 common causes. Medical Gastroenterologist Dr.Arul Selvan gave a talk on GERD beyond PPI. Laproscopic surgeon Dr.Piyush Patwa gave talk on Rare Surgical causes for dyspnea it was attended by about 70 IMA members. We have started a new workshop CRITICIMA critical care workshop basics of managing the critically ill, live programme from 29 January 2023 at Royal Care hospital Coimbatore. Over a period of 5 months, it is a structured programme for physicians and practitioners. There were 30 participants for the programme. We are going to start a workshop RAIMA, a workshop on regional anaesthesia will be started from 1/4/2023, once in 15 days total 4 sessions at Ganga hospital, Coimbatore. We are going to start a Cardiology Workshop on 05-03-2023. We are going to start SONIMA, a structured basic Gynaecology ultrasound training programme from April 1st2023. A live hands on sessions of gynaecology ultrasound will be conducted with 2 day 8 hour session in a span of 2 months. There were around 200 candidates participated the programme. Dr. P. Mannar Mannan, Chairman Paramedical Wing welcomed the dignitaries and the students and explained the motto of inviting all for this zonal meeting. The programme was inaugurated by the State President Dr. T. SenthamilPari and wished the students to serve the community with care and sympathy and advised the faculties to guide the students with proper teachings and good discipline. Dr. N.R.T.R. Thiagrajan, Hony. State Secretary expressed the demand of paramedical in the health sector and advised the students to study well and work for the society. Dr. S. Gowri Shankar, Secretary-Paramedical Wings has expressed his support to the Paramedical institutions in all aspect and encouraged them to bring up the standard of teaching at par with any other best institutions in India. Dr. K. Thirumavalavan, Joint Secretary Paramedical Wing has arranged all the events of the Zonal meeting very well with many teaching programmes, BLS training and variety programmes. We thank the Madurai IMA President and the Secretary for their support and arrangement. Thanks to the Doctors who involved themselves to train the students in BLS. The participants were awarded the participation certificate. As all of us know, the Diploma courses have made for two years from 2022-23 onwards, also included two certificate courses for one year. The Curriculum have been designed to suit for two years by the experts. Accordingly the text books have been modified. There is a change in the exam pattern and the marking system. Hence, it is planned to have a meeting at IMA Hall Madurai on 18-03-2023 Saturday for the Head/Principals, Faculties and Tutors from 10 AM to 02.00 PM. We request the Institute heads to send your Principal, Faculties and the Tutors to the meeting without fail. Attending meeting would certainly improve the quality of the training at your institute and bring a name for you all. It is planned to train the faculties by the experts in the field of Paramedics.
