The national AGM came around quick, which
was another experience with a couple of
“virgins”. One young lady provided us with great
entertainment on her last day, after drinking a
few pimms……… Miss Jennings. I was
disappointed Edd didn't let me bring a chair
back home!
Then, it was time for rally! With Abi very keen to
enter everything, we jumped into it! Big thank
you to Abi for getting the box painted, a few
very late nights really made it look epic! The day
went pretty well with Wythall coming home with a good few prize cards
and a highlight for me was
coaching the lads and ladies
tug of war, although my voice
suffered for it! It was a
cracking day that flew by very
quickly organised by Maria
and Rambo.
Onto more recent times, we
held our main fundraiser of
the year, Bash on the Borders,
by kind permission of Patty
Allen in a marquee decorated mainly by Abi to the theme of circus of
booze! Sorry Abi, I struggle with its translated name! A very successful yet
stressful night being sober and dealing with 1 or 2 rather drunk mem-
bers…… Looking back a great
night though! Huge thanks to
Laura Blower and Dave Warren
for making sure it all ran
smoothly and to all the com-
mittee and helpers on the
night! Really was appreciated!
51
Very recently we have had our ploughing match, held at Mark Jacksons
farm and organised by Stuart Hooper, Dave Warren and a few others. We
are very lucky to have been able to have this organised for us and venues
sorted for the next two years as
well! It was great to see a couple
of members ploughing, Huge
well done to Lydia with the
assistance and loan of a tractor
and plough from Dave N and his
boss.
The following weekend it was
our 70th platinum ball. With
months and months of planning
by a separate committee, and
the loan of a marquee from A E Becketts and sons, it was on! A really
special night and I was proud to be part of it. A lot of hard work especially
from John Smith and Maxine Warren and a great display of the past along
with a slideshow made by Nicky Jennings really did make it a truly fantastic
night I will never forget!
It's been a very busy year, and I'd like to thank everyone who has helped
this year, be it preparing members for a competition or helping at a event,
your assistance has been hugely appreciated. Now to relax and enjoy my
final year as a member and let Dave and his committee take over! Best of
luck!
This is Ben Smalley, signing off!

County Show Report

County Show 2015… Where to
start?!
Well it all started back when Matt
approached us both to be Joint County show
chairmen (even though the rumours had already
reached us via a certain Will Parry!) Rambo was heard to
say…“How much work could it be!” I think we can both answer that
one honestly now, Rambo being slightly over optimistic!
As both of us have been involved in YFC for as long as we can remember,
having been active club members and club chairman for our own respective
clubs: Tenbury and Wythall, we know that for many clubs and members the
County show/rally is the highlight of the year! So we had to do a good job…
A huge congratulation to the current County Show champions Cutnall Green,
strongly led by Adam Whiteman and Steph Currie. They showed just what
hard work, dedication and team spirit can do to a club in driving it forward
to win. However all the other clubs, if
you were in it to win, or just to help
bind your club together within the
competition element of the day you
helped to create a great atmosphere
that everyone enjoyed on the day, so,
thanks to you all!
Pre show day was a great success,
kindly hosted by Martin’s Meats, and the Gilder’s at Moat Farm. A huge
thank you to Rachel Gilder who took the reins
completely and did an amazing job in sorting
everything: the venue, stock, judges and
stewards. Having the sports day competition
definitely added some entertainment to the
afternoon especially from Dan Bradleys white
legs and fluorescent trainers.
53
A very warm thank you to our current president Martin May and his family
for our perfect venue, the site was wonderfully tidy and compact, keeping
all the competitions close and the atmosphere buzzing.
Months of preparation and evening phone calls made way to set up week…
this was an experience in itself from unexpected holes in stables roofs, artic
lorries locating
previously undis-
covered sink holes
and realising just
how big a 3 a
panelled marquee
was when it was
put in a tight
spot – Sorry Mini
Mac for asking you
to take some of it down just after you had spent all evening putting it up!
We now know from first hand experience just how good Pete Rose and Rich
Pinfield are at helping to organise the county show, from late night eve-
nings discussing the rules and site plans to the full 21 hour day on the actual
day & night… Their knowledge, experience and common sense to problems
that crop up is a huge support.
On the day, it was amazing to take a step back and
watch, hundreds of young farmers all sporting their
club tops and darting everywhere carrying the ran-
domest of items such as recycled green tyres with
giant red lips to boxes of carefully cut flowers and
cookery items! Listening to all the
entertainment from the different stages, I still love
the efforts of the cross
dressing for the show
chairman’s challenge!
Followed by the
excitement of the tug of
war to finish the day…
54
After the success of previous years we invited
Gill Earle back to provide a “children’s area”
which, every time I passed seemed to be
overflowing with young children eager to take
part. So, thank you Gill, even though I was
having nightmares about where to locate the
bouncy castle!
Key people to mention for the day: all the
office staff, Ann, Gill and Beth. I hope Gill
enjoyed her first county show?! Alison for the
great job of the programme, I hear Tom has
already asked for her artistic talents for next
year! Pete, Rich, Rachel, Tom, Helen, Dene,
Kat, Dave Fellows plus the other members of F&GP who appeared at times
of need.
The judges and stewards are
instrumental on the day, and I thank
you again for all the
expertise and encouragement you
bring to the young, competing mem-
bers.
Matt, as County Chairman was
fantastic, keeping spirits up and
always on hand either on the phone
or within the countless of hours he
put in to setting it up and taking it down.
There are many, many more to thank, as the whole county seems to have a
small part to play within the show and it was a joy and privilege to be
organising it.
Good luck next year Rich and Tom!

Stock Judging Co-ordinator Report
Rachel Gilder
What a fantastic year for Worcestershire Stock
Judgers!
The year kick started with the English Winter
Fair in November, with a full NFYFC team
entered and two teams for the EWF competition, we
started the year out as we meant to go on…getting involved and
having ago at everything!
With a carcass practise held in preparation for the event at Griffiths of
Leintwardine, and a beef live to dead day held at Dunbia Sawley, we were
ready. The team all came home having represented Worcestershire to a
very high standard, with a special mention to Dan Bradley, coming first in
the senior pig carcass class having never competed in pig carcass before -
well done.
Two teams of us headed up to Cirencester
livestock market Christmas fat stock day in
December to judge butchers lambs, butchers pigs
and butchers beef. Another successful day, with
Worcestershire coming home with three 1st prizes
and two 3rd prizes – well done team.
Our attention quickly moved onto the County
Stockman of the Year competition in January. A
huge thanks must go to all those who hosted and
helped out at the practise evenings on the run up to this event.
Possibly one of the coldest days in January, we headed over to Hillend
Court, Castlemorton by kind permission of The Hillend Partnership, Mr and
Mrs Smith and Mr and Mrs Britain. Hillend Court provided an exceptional
venue with some quality stock to judge. A thank you must go to Mr E
56
Newton for hosting the dairy competition, the stewards, judges and Upton
advisory for keeping us all fed and watered. Upton proved unbeatable, with
a clean sweep in both the senior and junior stockman of the year team –
very well done to all who competed.
Live judging practises continued into April, with a small group heading to
Dunbia Preston for a lamb live to dead day, I’m sure you will all agree, this
was a very interesting day. With pre-show day looming, more practise
evenings were put on for the County, a thanks must go to those who hosted
and helped out coaching the members.
Pre show day was as competitive as ever, with all clubs entering teams, a
special thanks to the Gilder Family at Moat Farm for hosting the live judging
and provided an exceptional venue with quality stock to judge. Also, thank
you to Martins Meats for hosting the carcass judging, a new venue for this
year, to which some of you had to travel quite a distance, but I’m sure the
quality of the carcasses to judge was worth the travel. Well done to Cutnall
Green who won the Stock judging cup.
The year was rounded off by the Royal Three Counties Show, something I
had always wanted to win in my year as stock judging co-ordinator. With all
the success Worcestershire had had so far this year, to have a full team
competing in both live and carcass competitions, I could not have asked for
anymore. But, we went one better and WON, WE DID IT! So very proud of
all those who competed – thank you and a massive WELL DONE!!!
A huge thanks to all those who have helped me this year, at County office,
those hosting practises, providing the stock, keeping the competitors fed
and watered, stewarding and judging - with-
out you we wouldn’t have achieved what we
have this year. And finally, the members,
thank you, you’ve supported me all the
way!!!!
Good luck to the team for next year.
